During the past months the
group committee of the Exeter
Boy Scouts have been making
strenuous efforts to obtain leaders
and councillors, Unfortunately,
these efforts have been
singularly unsuccessful and have
reached the point where the Scout
Troop is now in danger of being
disbanded.
To most people Boy Scouts are
those boys you occasionally see
around wearing a uniform
complete with neckerchief,
badges and woggles. Generally,
they're accepted as good guys by
most, sissies by some, and

others-, but how Many people I
wonder, understand what Boy
Scouts really are.
Scouting is a unique
organization offering op-
portunities foryouth unparalleled
by any other organization. Its
aim is to help boys develop their
character as resourceful and
responsible members of the
community by providing op-
portunities and guidance for their
mental, physical, social and
spiritual development.
Each 01' these aims is based on
the principal that man must to
the best of his ability love and
serve God; respect and act in
accordance with the human
dignity and rights of individuals
and recognize the obligation on
himself to develop his potential.
High aims and principals you
might say; well perhaps they are,
but what finer aims and prin-
cipals for the youth of today to
aim for and achieve in a world
that is becoming increasingly
socially detached.
Over twelve million Boy Scouts
throughout the world subscribe to
these aims and principals and
amongst those Scouts are the
boys who are members of the
Exeter Troop, To achieve the
aims and principals of the
Scouting movement, these boys
need guidance and leadership
and through the medium of the T-
A, I would like to make an appeal
to the citizens of Exeter for their
help in providing leaders and
councillors,
Being a leader or a councillor is
not difficult and has many
rewards in the fun, adventure,
and comradeship the Boy Scouts
naturally generate.
Scouting is a thoroughly worth-
while "happening" so if any of
your readers would like to help
boys to a fuller life and give them
that all important help in tran-
sition from boy to manhood, I
would be pleased to hear from
them.
Yours faithfully,
R.W. Helm,
Chairman Group Committee
Exeter Boy Scouts Association.

Exeter Scouts need leaders
By MRS. FRED BOWDEN
CENTRALIA
The Centralia U.C.W. met in
the schoolroom of the church on
Thursday evening amidst a ,very
lovely Christmas setting. On
entering the church members
were given a tag for name and
birthday and greeted with
"Hallelujah you were born" in
keeping with the theme
"Celebration of Birth".'
Mrs. Robert Blair opened the
business with a poem "Christ-
mas". It was decided to send the
Birthday Box money to the
Children's Hospital. Conveners
were appointed to buy permanent
Christmas decorations for the
church and Sunday School.
The last half of the mem-
bership roll with Mrs. Ralph
Lightfoot, Mrs. Alvin Lobb and
Mrs. Harold Lightfoot were in
charge of the program. Mrs.
Alvin Lobb gave the call to
worship in poem "Birth of
Christ," A carol was sung
followed by the` Christmas
scripture reading by Mrs. Lloyd
Morgan.
Mrs, Lorne Hicks, Mrs. Elmer
Powe and Mrs. Harvey Smith
gave the meditation on total
commitment, and Mrs. Ralph
Lightfoot gave a reading. Mrs.
Russell Wilson sang a solo and a
ritual of candle lighting was held
for each month of the year to
celebrate everyone's birthday in
the group.
Mrs. Sam Skinner, Mrs.
Charles Rollings, Mrs. Harold
Lightfoot and Mrs. Lorne Hicks
lit four candles for the world and
read a poem for each, Mrs. Alvin
Lobb lit the tall candle for the
"Birth of Jesus". Mrs. Ken
Hodgins, played an ac-
companying instrumental.
Another carol was sung and
prayer was offered by three
ladies, The program closed with
