Early in the second period, Bogart notched his second goal with help coming from Randy Parsons and Brad Taylor. Shortly after Skinner completed his double scoring with the assist going to Paul Van Gerwen. The only Exeter goal in the bantatil game came from the stick of John Van Gerwen with While records are probably not kept, the South Huron District High School wrestling team hit a high peak in dual meets, Monday afternoon. They downed Goderich district Collegiate 51-15 for their 50th consecutive win in dual meets since December of 1968. The 49th victory came Thursday with another decisive win by a score of 65-14 over Stratford Central. In the annual Red and Black tournament at the local school, the South Huron Panthers finished third to the cham- pionship club from Strathroy and runner-up Lambton Central from Petrolia. Strathroy finished with 123 points to lead the parade, Lambton Central accumulated 114 points and the South Huron total was 86. In the Black and Red two SH- DHS wrestlers won their division titles. Dave Cyr took the unlimited championship defeating last year's WOSSA heavyweight title holder, Bill Degroot competing at 130 pounds was the other local winner and was also named the best wrestler for South Huron. Finishing second in their respective classes were Art Westelaken and Paul Greb, Gary Koehler was selected as the most improved Panther wrestler, Against Goderich in Monday's 50th win, Gary Koehler pinned his opponent in the fastest time of the Page 6 Times-Advocate, December 14, 1972 011011111011ifillininlisimisimonmotilinitmapisistioninuinnisiiitumaintigsinill1110M0111111111 FOR ALL GOOD SPORTS By Ross Haugh Banner year It's rather difficult to believe that Christmas is just around the corner and this is the second last column for the year 1972, We will take a quick look at what has happened this year in what we believe has been a banner year in sports not only in this area but throughout the world. Next week we will try and complete all the highlights of the past 12 months and maybe take a look at what is ahead for this area with many Centennial celebrations slated for 1973. This week we will focus on group efforts in particular and next week more to team and individual performances in this area. On the International scene, the Canada-Russia hockey series has to be an extreme highlight. Never before has a single sport captured the interest of a nation and held it for more than three weeks. One of the important factors in bringing the Canadian team together and just in the nick of time was the display of poor sportsmanship by some fans in Vancouver after the loss to Russia there. At this point Phil Esposito took over not only as club spokesman but as the team leader and Team Canada started to roll. It will be a long time before Canadian fans forget the valiant efforts by every one of the players in the final two games especially. All of Western Ontario takes pride in the performances of Paul Henderson and in the Lake Huron areas the squabble over his actual birthplace may be forgotten. Whether he Was born in Lucknow, or Kincardine or somewhere along the icy shores of Lake Huron he is a credit to the entire country. The important achievement in sports in this area has to be the great increase in participation in all sports by persons of all ages. First of all baseball in minor ranks which was dormant in this area for quite sometime has bounced back with a vengeance.Ball fever has caught on again and in the next couple of years the calibre of intermediate baseball should improve considerably. A very enthusiastic minor ball executive has things rolling well in Exeter and the same goes for Dashwood and Crediton. The revival of intermediate ball in Exeter with the creation of the Expos in Huron Perth is an encouraging sign. The Expos did well in their first season and should be heard from in years to come especially with a good flow of minor talent coming up. The biggest rise in youngster participation in any sport is the record number of area boys and girls participating in the Exeter figure skating club. President Jack Underwood and his very enthusiastic executive have more than 190 youngsters working under the excellent guidance of club pro Brad Loosley, This year's figure skating carnival should be one of the best ever produced here. It is scheduled for the Exeter arena for Saturday, February 24. Mite Tourney Another reminder that the annual Exeter mite hockey tournament will take over the ice surface at the Exeter arena for two days during the Christmas holidays. Chairman Ron Horn is hopeful of having 16 teams in two divisions in action on December 26 and 27. Exeter will be represented by the Waxers made up of boys eight years of age and under. It's surprising the fine brand of hockey these youngsters dish up. They give it more effort per pound than probably a hockey player of any other age group. 'Well Done, Girls A note on the sports pages of last week's University of Western Ontario Gazette listed the winners in an archery contest held recently on the Western campus. Among the winners were two former students at South Huron District High School. The girls taking up the archery game only this term came up with respectable scores. They were Joanne Hodgert and Linda Haugh.
