Just found a gold mine that will
Make me as famous as it will
rich,
It's an old book called 'The
Home Helper or Everybody's
Companion' and although we can
find no date of publication, the
yellowness and brittleness of the
pages claim it's pretty ancient,
You thought those folks living
in the olden days didn't know
much? Listen, this book contains
a regular bonanza of useful
recipes and hints, which in the
name of science and with a
sincere desire to help my
fellowmen I'm persuaded I must
produce for everyone's benefit. I
really will, if I can find the
ingredients which for the most
part are a mystery to me.
For instance. It's a sure bet
hundreds of gents will be
clamoring for my formula 'To
Force the Growth of Hair'. But
they may have to wait a bit. I've
gathered up the cologne, the oil of
rosemary,oil of nutmeg, and the
lavender out where in heck do
you find 1 drachm of liquid
hartshorn and 2 drachms of
tincture of cantharides?
I'm a little stumped by the
postscript on this recipe, It
claims it was used in making the
celebrated Graham Onguent,
Now, what do you suppose that is
.. a famous man, a fancy dessert
or an old movie?
Having recently been in hospital
I was especially interested in the
cure for constipation. However, I
decided to forgo exercising in the
open air and taking ice cold baths
as recommended. On the other
hand, for diarrhoea it suggested
a cure of anti-cholera powder and
East Indian rhubarb mixed with
boiling water, Well, I might be
1
able to get the anti-cholera
powder but at the moment I don't
know any East Indians dealing in
rhubarb.
There's one concoction I could
certainly have used a couple of
days after the operation. It's
called Peppermint Cordial for 3 Wind, Etc. I may run for
parliament next time on the
platform that every hospital be
stocked with gallons of the stuff
for post-operation sufferers.
For those who are a little
overweight the book suggests
that a strong decoction of
sassafras, drank frequently, will
reduce the flesh as rapidly as any
remedy known.

Since this is the season of the

`How to Cure a Cold' at no charge

hot water and drink a pint of hot
lemonade; then sponge the feet
with salt water, 2. Bathe the face

hours, 4. Inhale ammonia. 5,

Sixteen members of the Happy
Doubles Club held their annual
Christmas banquet at the
Dominion Hotel, Zurich, Thur-
sday evening. After the meal the
members of the club all went to
the home of Mr. & Mrs. Glen
Stewart for the remainder of the
evening.
Mrs. Floyd Stewart gave the
Christmas call to worship
followed with prayer. Silent
Night was sung. Meditation was
given by Mrs. Floyd Stewart.
Another hymn was sung and Mrs.
Floyd Stewart read about
Christmas and Advent. Barry
Jeffery read about advent in the
home. A poem "Unaware" was
read by Mrs. Floyd Stewart.
Mrs. Glen Stewart read a
story; several Christmas hymns
were sung and a debate took
place. A story, "Church That
Became a Submarine" was read
by Mrs, F. Stewart and a social
time was enjoyed at the end of the
meeting,

• Huron County Public Library
will have new 16 mm. Christmas
films for two weeks in December.
The first program will be
available December 6-13. One is
entitled "The First Christmas
Tree". While a toymaker travels
to a distant village to sell his
wares on Christmas eve, his
children decorate a little
evergreen tree as a surprise for
him.
The second is entitled "The
Little Drummer Boy". Narrated
by Greer Garson, with the Vienna
Boys Choir singing the title song
and other selections, 'it is the
legend of the little drummer boy
who has no gift to offer, but plays
instead on his drum for the
Christ-Child.
The second program will be
available December 15-23.
Included in it is a film called
"The Littlest Angel, the story of a
naughty little angel, who, though
he tried hard to look and act as a
good angel should, just couldn't
seem to stay out of trouble.
The second selection is called
"A Christmas Carol" and is a
version of the Charles Dicken's
novel, the story of Scrooge,
haunted by the ghosts of
Christmas Past, Present and Yet-
to-come.
Each program which also
includes a cartoon, has a running
time of approximately 45
minutes.
Films may be booked by
calling Huron County Public
Library, Goderich, 524-7751.
Bookings can only be made if
films can be picked up at the
Headquarters office and returned
there by one o'clock the following

bicuspids look a little dull you
might care to risk the suggestion
of applying carefully over the
teeth a stick dipped in nitric acid,
but it's not really one I recom-
mend highly.
But,the book is a positive gold
mine. With its directions I can
now cure deafness, stammering,
toothache, corns, colic,
nosebleeds and sleeplessness.
I can also advise you on how to
beautify your complexion, how to
make sticky fly paper, what will
make your hair curl, how to keep
your stove polished and give you
a sure-fire way to improve your
memory. These are just a few of
the wonderful things included in
this rare book.
The most exciting of all,
though, is something called THE
MAGIC ANNIHILATOR. (The
very name sends chills up my
spine and boggles my senses at
the thought of the riches I'll
derive from its sale.) Of course,
I'm keeping the formula under
wraps but once I get it concocted
these are some of things you can
expect it to do: remove grease
spots from coats, pants, vests,
dresses, carpets and the finest of
silks or laces without injury;
shampoo hair like a charm,
killing dandruff and removing
grease ;clean smudges from door
knobs, window sills, walls, etc;
remove paint from a board no
matter how hard or dry it is;
clean silver, brass and copper (it
can't be beaten here). Now, as if
that isn't enough, there is still
something more . it's sudden
death to bed bugs.
I tell you I've got it made . . , if I
can find the ingredients, that is.
