Following a series of "town
meetings" throughout the County
in October, the Children's Aid
Society will be co-ordinating its
Christmas plans for families and
children on a regional basis
throughout Huron County this
year.
For many years the CAS has
undertaken to provide Christmas
assistance to families needing
help with the provision of pur-
chase vouchers for Christmas
dinner and gifts for family
members. In 1971, approximately
200 families and over 700 children
were assisted, thanks to the
generous community donations
of funds and toys.
"It was largely due to the
problems of directing such a
large scale effort from our office
in Goderich that the decision was
made to set up a Christmas
Bureau in each of the five towns
in the County," noted Bruce R.
Heath, CAS Local Director,
"along with the fact we were not
availing ourselves of a wealth of
volunteer support and assistance.
Our Christmas projects are
essentially a co-ordination of the
efforts of various local com-
munity groups and interested
individuals in a combined
volunteer effort."
Meeting the needs of the
children and families referred to
us is directly dependent on the
response of the people of Huron'
County. Already we have
received donations and com-
mitments of assistance from
many community groups, and it
is hoped that as many as possible
will again assist us this year.
"In many communities, church
and service groups have always
