The Christmas General
Meeting of the Hensall U.C.W.
was held in the Fellowship Hall of
the Church Monday evening, with
Grace Drummond and Helen
MacLean welcoming at the door.
New President, Kay Mock
presided and opened with an
article entitled "A Womans
conversation with God". Two
duets were rendered by Pearl
Passmore and Mary Goodwin
with Belva Fuss accompanying
on the piano,
The devotional given by Will
Beck was centered around
keeping Christmas all year
round, Elva Forrest read the
Christmas story and a Christmas
Litany and affirmation were read
by all, Belva Fuss favoured
everyone with piano selections of
favorite Christmas music, which
was very much enjoyed, A
touching Christmas story "Tell
me about Christmas" was read
by Elva Forrest,
Anita Cook gave a short report
on the feelings of the units of
having nursery in the Church,
and it was decided that a list of
names would be drawn up con-
cerning this matter for the
coming year.
Mona Alderdice conducted the
business session and opened with
a Christmas prayer. The roll call
was answered by 43 members
and three guests, and the unit
leaders gave a short report on the
years work. Year end reports
were given from various com-
mittees; Mrs. Erratt reported for
supply and welfare, Mrs. Ella
Council okays
applications
Hensall village council was
informed that the Hensall Kin-
smen and Kinettes have pur-
chased a tractor for use at the
arena. Previously, council had
passed a motion to make the first
payment on a tractor, but this
will not be necessary.
Murray Bell was hired to
plough the roads at the dump,
and C. E, Reid was hired by
council to plough the roads in the
village.
Council also decided at the
meeting to make applications for
Winter Works programs for the
village. Clerk Earl Campbell
said, however, that they have not
yet received the application
forms.
Two building permits were
approved at the meeting: one for
Murray Baird for renovations,
and one to John Beer for a new
house.
Bills and accounts of $62,952.24
were approved.
Drysdale for flower fund, Mrs.
Mable Shirray for friendship and
visitation, Doreen Spencer for
treasurer's report and financial
report by Mildred McNaughton.
The budget for the U.C.W.
presented was accepted. The
nominating committee report
was given by Elva Forrest.
New President Kay Mock said
a few words of encouragement to
everyone for the coming year.
Mona Alderdice read a recipe for
Christmas and closed the
meeting with the familiar carol,
Silent Night and a Christmas
prayer.
Sunday Morning Service
Sunday morning in Hensall
United Church was the
celebration of the Lord's Supper.
Five new members, Mr. and Mrs.
David Brock, Mrs, Doug Shirray,
and Mr. and Mrs. Howie Wright
were welcomed into the
fellowship of the congregation.
Rev. Don Beck preached on the
sermon topic "Prepare the way
of the Lord". The Travers family
entertained with a lovely duet
"Mansion on the Hilltop", by Don
Travers, his Daughter Gayle;
and son Tom accompanying on
the piano.
4-H girls hold,
final meetings
The seventh and eighth
meetings of the Hensall 4-H
"Roaring Twenties" were held
recently at the home of Mrs. Bill
Fuss. At meeting seven, plans for
a buffet luncheon were made and
the luncheon was enjoyed at the
eighth meeting. Plans were
discussed for the skit to be
presented on Achievement Day.

Kinette Club visited residents of
the Queensway Nursing Home
this past Sunday morning and
handed out treats and favours to
everyone_ The Young People
from the Christian Reformed
Church of Exeter visited the
home Sunday evening and en-
tertained the residents with a
sing-song.
Mr. & Mrs. William Simpson,
Birmingham Michigan, visited
last week with their aunt Mrs.
Marguerite Bonthron.
Dutch elm disease was found in
Nova Scotia for the first time in
1969.

The W.M.S. and Associate
members of Carmel
Presbyterian Church held their
thank-offering meeting Monday
evening.
Mrs. Harry Snell and Mrs. Bev
Beaton were in charge of the
program.
The Scripture reading was
taken by Mrs. Beaton and Mrs,
Snell gave a reading "Keeping
Christmas" after which Mrs.
Beaton led in prayer. The of-
fering was taken by Mrs, M.
Glanville and Mrs. A. Orr and
dedicated by Mrs, Glenn Bell.
The guests, Mrs. Grace Har-
pole and Mrs. Grace Peck, were
introduced by Mrs. Beaton.
Mrs. Harpole favoured with
piano numbers and Mrs, Peck
gave an interesting demon-
stration on Christmas
decorations. Mrs. Snell read a
poem "This Is The Time,"

Legion Hall last Wednesday
evening for a miscellaneous
shower in honor of Beverly
Randal whose marriage to Bill
Bell will take place December 9,
Marilyn Campbell conducted
contests and also read the
presentation address. The bride-
to-be sat in a decorated chair and
was assisted by Joanne Bell and
Lorraine Randal to open the
