The following questions were posed to each candidate: 1) What do you believe are the main issues in your municipality and what is your stand on them? 2) Why should voters support your bid for election? SAM TAYLOR 1. I think the main issues of this election are: Proposed im- provements of the Lucan Arena, which in my opinion is the social centre of Biddulph Township. I am in favor of, and would support these improvements. I would support the more liberal use of the Lucan-Biddulph dump for the residents of these communities. Care and maintenance of township roads and road allowances are a major concern of mine. 2. I think the electorate should support me at the polls because I am prepared to work to the best of my ability with the best in- terest of the residents of Bid- dulph township my main con- cern. My family and I are active in community affairs working with the youth of the community. I support more participation of the general public in our township business affairs. I am interested in and will strive for the formation of a local recreation association. JIM RYAN 1. I believe there is a water problem in Granton, and I also believe that this situation can be resolved to the satisfaction of all concerned by working together and to this end, I pledge my support. I also would like to see more calcuim chloride applied on the roads, and I hope this can be done starting in the new year. 2. Lunch was provided by Bill Frost. Your Christmas Stocking Store that I would like the opportunity to serve the ratepayers of Bid- dulph as Deputy-Reeve. GREG BALL In talking with you, the residents of Biddulph Township, there is no doubt in my mind that your main concern is the lack of effective road maintenance operations within the townships. This must be reviewed and cor- rected! You have also expressed doubts about the new garbage system, for which, you are paying taxes. Your garbage is picked up every second week by a profit-making concern, con- tracted by the township. Ad- ditional dollars from your own pocketmust be paid if you want to take garbage to the dump in person. This is wrong and must also be corrected! In two years time you will have another election. When this oc- curs, do you want to be faced with the same unsolved problems? I do not think you do! This is the reason why I would like to represent you, as a member of your township coun- cil. Let's all work together to solve these problems now. For this kind of representation, — vote for "Ball." ELMER E. SUMMERS 1. I think that the main issue in the township is the adoption of the land use and zoning by-law, which is now before the Ontario Municipal Board. I submit it is imperative that the township council and the planning board have some con- trol over the future expansion of our township. I also think that the present village communities within the township should be allowed to grow, rather than have scattered housing all over the township. The other issues that may come forward during the future should be dealt with in all fairness to all, with a good sound business approach. 2. I am contesting this election because I believe that everyone Thanks for Shopping at 011111111111111111110111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111MiliiiiiiiimlimmumnimmummilimilitinininininiminnIMUMMIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIC Len McKnight $AVE $$ With These & Sons Men's Wear Main St., Exeter - 235 - 2320 Weekend Specials Mr. & Mrs. Don Abbott, Manitoulin Island visited relatives and friends on the weekend in Lucan.
