The worship serviee at Lucan
United Church was taken by Rev,
W. C. 'Topling with a children's
Sermon and hymn. The theme of
the sermon was "The ,Joy of
Giving",
"God loves a cheerful giver";
"It is more blessed to give than
to receive". In these two
statements we find the essence of
the Christian life, said Rev.
Tooling. The true Christian is
more concerned with giving than
with getting, for this is what love
is all about, he concluded,

Holy Trinity Anglian
Sunday morning newly con-
firmed members made their first
Communion. After the service
breakfast was served by Nancy
Lewis, Anne Stanley and Mike
Henderson. There were 20 pre-
sent for bacon and eggs.
At the 11 o'clock service the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Beadle
was baptized, fan James. He was
sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. G. W.
Beadle and Gord Hardy, The
flowers in the church were from
the funerals of Mrs, Scallion and
Mrs. Maria Jongeneelen.
Rev. R. A. Carson preached on
the theme "For this we Stand",
He quoted to the congregation
"Be alert, stand firm in the faith,
be valiant and strong. Let all you
do be done in love". Mr. Carson
said we live in an age of ambigui-
ty and skepticism. Christians are
told to identify with the world
and abandon the supernatural.
Some of this stress has been
helpful but when we try to bend
over backwards to accommodate
we end up swimming in a sea of
question marks Mr. Carson said
We stand for the authority of
God in human life. Secondly we
stand for the dignity of man.
Thirdly we stand for the
recreative power of Christ.
Lucan Revival Center
Sunday morning the service
was in charge of the pastor, Rev.
E. Thornton. Mr. & Mrs. Thorn-
ton sang a duet, with Mrs, Thorn-
ton playing her accordion.
The message was on the theme
"How we can be overcomers
through all trouble through
Jesus, and the rewards coming to
those who are overcomers to the
end."
The evening service was in
charge of the young people, Lou
Hoffman led the singing, with
Rick Thornton leading the
choruses, and testimonies,
Marlene Butler sang a solo and
also brought the message. The
theme was on music being used
to draw us closer to God, and
praise giving us the faith to trust
Him.
Monday evening a group of
women from the Women's Aux-
iliary went to the home of Mrs,
Hazel McGuf fin to take her a gift
of fruit and other food for a
birthday gift. Mrs. A. Graham
brought a birthday cake, and
others brought other things for a
little birthday party for Mrs.
McGuffin's birthday November
28.
IN MEMORIAM —
FERGUSON — In loving memory of
our dear sister Rosena who passed
away 4 years ago, December 5, 1968.
She is gone but not forgotten
And as dawns another year
In our lonely hours of thinking
Thoughts of her are always near
Days of sadness will come o'er us.
Many think the wound is healed
But they little know the sorrow
That lies in the heart concealed
Ever remembered by sisters Mary
and Gordon, Edna and Clayton. 48c
BRIERLEY — In loving memory of
my dear Aunt, Mrs. Amelia Brierley
who entered into rest November 25,
1970.
For her life more abundant
For us a guiding star.
Lovingly remembered by her niece.
48c
FERGUSON — In loving memory of
a dear wife, mother and grand-
mother, Mrs. Rosena Ferguson who
passed away December 5, 1968.
A golden heart stopped beating.
Two working hands at rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
For all her loving kindness
She asked nothing in return
If all the world deserted us
To her we could turn
So please God take a message
To her up above
And tell her that we miss her
And give her all our love.
Lovingly remembered by her hus-
band and family. 48
