The following questions were posed to each candidate: 1) What do you believe are the main issues in your municipality and what is your, stand on them? 2) Why should voters support your bid for election? JOE MILLER The main issue of any election is electing a candidate who is reliable, into a position of respon- sibility; someone who sees what To the Electors of Hay Having served as coun- cillor for the past 6 years, I now solicit your support as a can- didate for DEPUTY-REEVE HAROLD CAMPBELL has to be done and knows how to get it done, Having lived here most of my life I have experienced, and am aware of the needs and problems of a rural area. Already, I have worked with and for the farmers of this area for the past several years doing something about these problems, and I have gained valuable experience and knowledge through this work. This being my first bid for a seat in municipal affairs, I am looking forward to serving the people of Hay Township to the best of my ability. JOHN CORBETT To the ratepayers of Hay township: I am a candidate for Deputy Reeve in the election December 4, I am opposed to regional government as I feel it would raise our taxes, Taxes, our taxes, are high enough now. They should be lowered if possible. I would like to have some of our roads fixed as they are in very bad shape. I would assist the rest of the council in all other business if elected. I feel the people should consider electing me as I have had experience in the council and have the time to put in at this work. I would work for all the.; people the same, I would listen to their needs and try and solve them in a courteous way. I feel the people should vote-on December 4. This is their, duty. This election is just as important as any election. For good consideration, vote for John Corbett on December 4. I will work for the good of the township in every way. Dashwood residents enjoy many conveniences such as an efficient fire-department, good streets and regular main- tainance, modern street lighting system and dependable garbage collection. In the past I have been in- terested in doing my best for this community, and plan to do so in the future, if elected. 2. When voters consider any bid for election two of the main factors I believe are experience and responsibility. In both areas I feel that voters can rely on my representation. GEORGE TIEMAN 1. I feel the main issue in our village at the present time is to work to encourage industry to locate in Dashwood. If we can acquire more industry we will acquire more housing and our village will continue to prosper. If elected I shall also work to maintain the vital services we have, such as fire protection, street lighting, good roads, and garbage collection. 2. I have been a lifelong resi- dent of Dashwood. I have been active in intermediate and minor baseball, an active member of the United Church, a member of the recreation park board and have tried to take an active part in community life. I am married and a father ,of three children. If elected as a trustee to the Village of Dashwood, I shall work to make it a village we all may be proud of. DOUG RIDDELL 1. I believe the three most crucial issues are village ser- vices, water and sewage systems and planned growth. In view of our continuing loss of both industrial and commer- cial business enterprises and the corresponding loss of tax revenue, our trustees must be personalty qualified to efficiently administer resources at minimal casts. The need for water and sewage systems are problems that must be dealt with. If the citizens of this community wish to have either one or both of these ser- vices, it will be the responsibility , of our trustees to promote com- munity development and growth in order to expand our tax revenue with which to pay for these new services. A large per- cent of our citizenry are living on fixed incomes and cannot afford drastic increases in their tax levels. The loss of both industrial and commercial business within Dashwood must be stopped. Dashwood must encourage and attract industry Which will provide new jobs needed by youth and by those people who are being displaced from farming operations because of the trend to larger farm units, Industrial growth will provide the impetus for commercial and professional growth. To maintain adequate shopping, medical, educational and recreational facilities, we must have an economically active community, The increased tax revenue that would be provided by new business arid residential growth will help minimize the continuing inflationary costs of our present and future services. 2. An active community deserves an "active and alive" board of trustees, Complacency and stagnation can be prevented by the infusion of new people with new ideas and unlimited energies. Prior to locating in Dashwood, I spent 15 years in industry and during this time lived in eight different cities across Canada and the United States. The ex- perience gained has been in- valuable to me and will hopefully be of equal value to the position of village trustee. Since coming to Dashwood, I have been for- tunate enough to become in- volved in the Dashwood Men's Club, Action Committee, Baseball Association, Friedsburg Days Committee and Church community and through these associations have experienced the needs and opportunities of this community. If elected as Village Trustee of Dashwood, I plan to work on your behalf in the protection of our environment and natural resources while ensuring that our community has an 'economical and viable position in the future. I solicit your support in the upcoming election. titi*F.N1 A Golfer on your Christmas 3 List?
