The system's layout includes complete sanitary sewer service througheUt the village, a Pam- ping station and two 6.5-acre treatment lagoons to be located sontheast of here, Last summer while' outlining the sweeping proposals for the future development of Zurich, which now has a population of 730, Huron County planners said a sewer system is vital to the village's growth. They said modern sewer facilities are necessary to attract industry and new residents. Sewers will allow residential lots to be smaller and more com- petitive in market pricing than the half-acre minimum size now • required for septic tank installa- tion. Job contractor is C. A. McDowell Ltd., of Centralia, which tendered a low bid of $40,- 336 for the project. High tender was $678,759, Mr. Armstrong said land and • engineering costs will increase the price to about $575,000 , The system is being financed by the province and the municipality will be charged 59.3 cents per thousand gallons of The system will cost property • owners a frontage levy of 45 sewage pumped. cents a foot, an annual connec- tion charge of $11.58 and a sur- charge on their present water rate. Mr. Armstrong said the sur- charge has not been set but is expected to be in the range of 100 percent, The residential flat rate for water now is $48 a year. The clerk-treasurer said the province will absorb 40 percent of the project's cost, leaving the municipality with 60 percent to repay. Planning for the system, which will be paid off over a 40- year period, began in 1966.
