Jets drop pair of games
in trip to Pennsylvania

Exeter clubs fared very well in
a Shamrock minor league
tripleheader at the Exeter arena,
Wednesday night.
In the opening contest, the Ex-
eter pee wees blanked
Dorchester 12-0 while the
succeeding bantam and midget
games ended in ties of 2-2 and 4-4,
respectively.
The local pee wees scored
three goals in each of the first
two periods and then finished

strong with a half dozen markers
in the final session.
Randy Parsons was the top pee
wee performer with a hat trick to
his credit while Dennis Presz-
cater, David Bogart and Paul
Pooley each hit the mark on two
occasions. Single goals were fired
by Paul Van Gerwen, Preston
Dearing and Derek Regier.
The bantam game was in doubt
to the 'final whistle with a
Dorchester goal in the last 22
seconds of play forcing the draw,

Exeter goal on a pass from
Morley Obre while John Van
The Hawks are off to a good
start with six victories in .the
first six games. Last weekend
home and home series with Bel-
mont was a tough series indeed.
Randy Gil titian had his leg broke
in two placeshereon Friday. Then
on Sunday in Belmont Kevin
I3estard had a head injury when
he fell to the ice and was taken to
the hospital. Randy will be lost to
the team for sometime but
Keven expects to be back in a
week or two.
Gerwen fired the second with
help from Tom Hayter.
The final few moments of the
midget contest were also packed
with excitement. A Dorchester
player scored with only 28
seconds left to give his club a 4-3
lead. This didn't last long as
Brian Taylor took a pass from
Steve Schroeder and tied the
score again with only eight
seconds remaining,
It was Taylor's second
successful shot of the night. The
other Exeter scores were fired
by Randy Regier and Brian
Pen hale,
The novice team won their two
home games last weekend, over
Ilderton on Sat. and Lucan on
Sunday. This team shows a lot of
promise as they seem to be quite
evenly balanced and will give a
good account of themselves this
winter.

The Lucan-Ilderton Jets while
idle in the Ontario Hockey
Association Senior "B" league
for close to two weeks made their
annual trip to Erie, Pennsylvania
over the weekend.
It was the third time the
Lucan-Ilderton club has made the
trip to Erie and the first time
they have lost any hockey games.
This time it was a double loss
to the Erie Lio:Is. The Erie Club
with several ex-professionals in
the line-up skated to a 9-5 win
Friday night and came right back
with a 6-4 decision the next night.
The Jets are back to the hockey
wars on the home front as they
play host to the (3othwell Barons
at the Ilderton arena, Sunday
afternoon attwo o'clock, Tuesday
night they travel to Stratford to
take on the Stratford Braves.
A former member of the New
York Rangers and Cleveland
Barons Jim Mikol scored three
times to lead the Erie scoring in
the Saturday night game,
Next in line for the Erie club
came Rick. Magnusson and John
Chisholm with two goals apiece
while Paul Gamsby and Dan
Griffin notched single scores.
Dick Doughty was hest for the
Jets with a two goal perfor-
mance. Checking in with single
goals were Doug Galloway, Jac-
ques Cousineau and playing
coach Jack Nairn.
Lorne Daer was in goal for the
jets for the first two periods with
Don Stewart taking over
for the final 20 minutes of play.
The Jets outshot the Lions by a
37-29 count.
A close contest
In Saturday's game the Jets

cator and Paul Gaiser with 4
goals. Rounding out the scoring
was Dennis Preszcator with one
goal,
Nothers sharp shooters were
David Atthill with two goals and
Preston Dearing with one goal.
Avcos edged Elaine's 5-4 in a
really close contest. Paul Pooley
scored three goals and Dave
Bogart and Eugene Clarke had
one apiece for Avcos,
For Elaine's Brian Mercer led
with three goals and Randy
Fisher got the other .
Larry Dawson and John
Stevens were the goal getters for
Lankamp's Esso in a 2-0 win over
Conklin.

The game was only 59 seconds
old when Dave Beer took a pass
from Brian Campbell and flashed
the red light. Before the first
period was history, Glover was
on the score board with two
goals, both coming on three-way
passing combinations with Perry
Stover and Brian Bestard.
In the third period, Glover
finalized the scoring early with a
goal at the 40 second mark on a
pass from Harry Smits.
Slow start
In Friday's 4-1 win over the
Belmont Sunsets the Hawks got
off-to a slow start not scoring
until midway through the second
period,
The first forty minutes
featured close checking with
neither team being able to es-
tablish a great deal of offensive
power.
The Sunsets opened the scoring
at 11:41 of the first stanza with
Ralph Jones getting their only
score of the contest.
Dave Beer evened the score for
the Hawks on a power play goal
at 12.31 of the second period with
linemates Brian Campbell and
Murray Parsons picking up
assists,
In the third period play opened
up and the Hawks scored three
straight goals to come away with
the win,
Brian Campbell fired the
ning goal at the 6.05 mark of the
final period, Murray Parsons and
Randy Tiernan were given
assists, At 8.42 Pete Glover broke
loose on the right side of the rink
and fired a hard shot into the top
corner of the net past Belmont
netm inder Len Lynch. Rick
Grenier got the lone assist,
13rian Campbell completed the
game scoring at 16:49 with his
second goal of the evening. The
assists went to Murray Parsons
and Dave Beer.
Exeter was assessed seven
minor penalties in the game and
eleven to Belmont. Belmont's
Bob Logan received a miscon-
duct while Len Lynch of the
Sunsets mid Randy Gilfillan of
the Ilawks were handed fighting
majors.
Gilfillan suffered a broken
ankle in the incident and will not
likely see action for quite some
time.
"My Dears," gushed the
matron at the bridge party, "my
resolution this year is never to
repeat gossip, so for heaven's
sake listen carefully the first
time,"

play outshooting the Lions by a
score of 41.22 but were on the

The Lucan Irish played three
games this week and lost two of
them. Wednesday against
Strathroy they lost 7-5. Our boys
did their best but seemed to be
out-lucked against this team.
Mike McIntyre, Craig Carman,
Bob Evans and Ron Funston put
the puck in the net for the Irish.
On Thursday the Irish travelled
to Tavistock bombing the Braves
13-6. Ron Funston, Rick Funston
and Bob Evans upped their point
record by seven each. Bob Evans
led the Irish with four goals. Ron
and Rick Funston fired three
each while Alan Kraul, Harry
Dickson and Mike Wraith each
fired singles.
Sunday they went to Strathroy
Mites get win
in season opener
The Exeter mites hockey club
scored a victory in their first
start of the season in exhibition
play.
The eight years and under club
travelled to Goderich Saturday
and came away with a 1-0 win.
The only goal of the game was
fired by Scott Pincombe. Assists
went to Dave Underwood and Bill
Glover,
The mites were back in action
at the Exeter arena last night,
Wednesday when they played
host to St. Mary's.

mont at home, Friday November
24 they travel to Mitchell and
next Wednesday November 29
the Irish host - Exeter. Good
