HURON PARK 6 — SHIPKA 2 The Huron Park Plugs opened the scoring in the first period and Hard hit While the Exeter Hawks remain undefeated in early season action in the district OHA Junior "D" grouping they took a beating in another way this week. The defending provincial champions lost three players during the latest week of play. The most serious is probably the broken leg suffered Friday night by Randy Gillian, The youngster in his first year of junior competition will be lost for most of the season. His injury has been diagnosed by doctors as a spiral 17- point break and he will have a cast on his right leg for 15 weeks. He is expected to spend most of this week in St. Joseph's Hospital in London. In Belmont Sunday night another of the younger members of the Hawks, Kevin Bestard was taken to the same hospital for observation for a possible concussion, He was back at his Grand Bend home Monday and is presently wearing a neck brace. The third Hawk who will he out for some time is Peter Kleinstiver. He underwent surgery for a shoulder separa- tion last week. While talking about the Hawks, their first meeting of the year with the Lucan Irish should be an interesting one. Both clubs have been rolling along in high gear, The Hawks at time of writing were undefeated in six starts while the Irish had lost only once so far this season. Coaches of both teams worked hard on pre-season con- ditioning and it has certainly showed in their team's performances. In Exeter. coach Bob White said he was going to have his charges in excellent shape to start the season and he has done exactly that. Last year it took the Hawks almost until Christmas to hit their stride. At Lucan, Steve Storey has been doing a wonderful job in putting together a strong Irish machine. Storey with tremendous hockey experience has combined with his assistant Bill Neil in moulding a good club out of a lot of eager youngsters. The Hawks and Irish will clash for the first time at the Lucan arena on Wednesday, November 29 and will be back at the Exeter arena, Friday, December 1, The foot was back Every once and awhile one hears the comment about 'anadian football teams not making enough use of the kick ,n their games. In Sunday's Western Canadian final, there was plenty of kick' in the last few seconds as Saskatchewan tried for a Angle point and Winnipeg made desperate attempts to get the ball out and gain a tie. We're quite sure this set a Canadian record of four boots in a matter of six seconds of playing time. The actual kicking may .have consumed more than six seconds but that's all the time that was left when the final sequence started. Answers to last week's questions — The top five draft choices in 1971 were Guy Lafleur, Montreal, Marcel Dionne, Detroit; Jocelyn Goevremont, Vancouver; Gene Carr, St. Louis-New York Rangers and Rick Martin of Buffalo. Milt Schmidt, Bobby Bauer and Porky Dumart made up the Kraut line while the ,Production line consisted of Sid Abel, Ted Lindsay and Gordie Howe. Questions — Who scored the fastest three goals in NHL history and who drew assists on all of the goals. A hint in this one. They played for the Chicago Black Hawks in 1952. A member of the Toronto Maple Leafs drew eight penalties in a single game in the 1968-69 season. Who was he? THE NEW '73 EXCITING, RUGGED, TOP-PERFORMANCE, DEPENDABLE. The final Mitchell goals came from the sticks of Art Strohm and Chris Smith. Penalties were very few with the Hawks being called for five of the eight infractions. Shots on goal favored the Hawks by a count of 28-27. A hat trick The combination of Pete Glover and John Hayter pretty well took care of the situation Sunday night as the Hawks downed Belmont 4-0.
