United Church
At the Sunday morning service
of worship in Hensall United
Church, Rev. Don Beck preached
on the sermon topic " To be or
not to be". Two babies received
the rights of baptism. They were
Duane Thomas, son of Mr. and
Mrs, Donald Kyle, and Stephen
Richard, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Steve Kyle. The choir sang an
anthem taken from the new
hymn book.
Unit IV of Henson
United Church Meets
Unit IV of Hensall U.C.W. met
Thursday afternoon at the church
with leader Mrs. J. McAllister
presiding. The meeting opened
with a verse in honour of Ar-
mistice Day and the hope for a
peaceful settlement in Vietnam,
Mrs. Roobal gave the devotional
and Mrs, Eric Luther used as her
theme "His name is wonderful"
for an inspiring topic.
Hymns were sung with Mrs.
Sherritt accompanying and
musical numbers were given by
Mrs, Grace Harpole. The ladies
decided to do quilting again.
The 1972 slate of officers were
returned for 1973. They are;
leaders, Mrs. J. McAllister and
Mrs. R. Errat; secretary, Mrs.
H. Caldwell, Mrs. Joe Flynn;
treasurers, Mrs. T. Sherritt,
Mrs. O. Armstrong; pianists,

Drainage problems became the
chief topic under discussion when
Hensall town council met
November 6. Homes that
previously had never had water in
the basements are now plagued
with water. Council decided
there must be some reason for
this condition and felt advice
should be sought from an
engineer.
Road superintendent Ernie
Davis reported raising the catch-
basin opposite the feed mill 21
inches and that all catch basins
have been cleaned, New
• sidewalks have been completed
on Queen Street and Mill Street;
eight feet of sidewalk have been
poured at the arena, and some
sidewalk blocks have been put in
on King Street. Council decided
to leave the rest of the sidewalks
• until spring if they can be done
for the same money at that time.

reported on many trees which
should be removed. Council felt
someone with knowledge of tree
removal would have to supervise

past three weeks, returned to his
home Thursday.

Mr. & Mrs. Ernie Pym accom-
panied by Mrs. Ruth Knight,
Seaforth, visited over the
weekend with their daughter and
family Mr. & Mrs. Allan Wanner,
Sarnia.
Gwen McLean, daughter of Mr.
& Mrs. Ken McLean, Hensall,
received her Registered Nursing
Diploma recently from the
College of Nursing in Toronto.
Miss McLean is presently on the
staff of the Psychiatric Hospital
in Goderich.
Mrs. Albert Alexander spent
two weeks recently visiting with
Rev. and Mrs. Currie Winlaw and
family, Stratford.
A bride served baked ham and
her husband asked why she cut
the ends off. "Well, that's the way
mother always did it," she
replied.
The next time his mother-in-
law stopped by, he asked her why
she cut the ends off the ham.
"That's the way my mother did
it," she replied.
And when grandma visited, she
too was asked why she sliced the
ends off. She said: "That's the
only way I could get it into the
pan,"

Rev.. W.D. Jarvis conducted
service in Carmel Presbyterian
church on Sunday. His sermon
subject was "Man's Greatest
The Explorer Group of Carmel
Presbyterian Church met recent-
ly in the Church basement. The
roll call was called by Brenda
Campbell and was answered by 11
members. Susan Stretton took up
the offering.
The first part of the meeting
was devoted to India. with Indian
jewellery and former Prime
Minister Ghandi being discussed.
