Protectors? Hardly! The Indian was completely physically fit; totally free of any concept of pollution of mind, body or environment; never heard an engine;improved his skills to the utmost; and was happy and free. Was that a bad way to live? No, Mrs. Dittmer, a car isn't an improvement over a quiet, alive continent. But it doesn't matter. Nature will someday once again grow over the place where New York once stood and ,instead of that example of our improved world, LIFE will grow and there will be no ski-doo riding hunters to slaughter Nature, HOW NICE. want to live with. that on your conscience? This isn't the first time someone has used a pellet gun on a dog in our village. We have a pretty good idea who is responsi- ble but without proof one can do nothing. I can only say, "please atop," Next time my add may be run- ning behind that dog. Do you George Shaw Jr, * * * Dear Fditor: Last Sunday, right after retur- ning from church my husband, two friends and I went out to the barn to check on our two dogs and their eight puppies, One puppy was missing and as we searched for it, the mother dog and the rest of the pups were allowed to go in and out of the door, In the amount of time it takes to walk a few feet from our barn, open two tins of dog food, and return, our adult dogs had wandered off the property. In those few minutes, with three adults • standing close at hand, someone in our village shot the two animals in the right front leg. Fortunately they missed their heads. These dogs are family pets. They are in a run and not allowed to run loose, If at anytime they have been out on their own it could only have been once or twice in the past six months or more, I have had a dog, not my own, tear my garbage apart three times last week. I was angry, but not to the' point of shooting it. Mother Nature would proceed, unhindered, to repair the damage - to replace the predators which "intelligent", white man stupidly destroyed, (But of course, modern man is se out of touch with Nature, and therefore reality, that he didn't realize there is anatural balance). Certainly, the deer would not starve, Some, might, but TITAT IS THE BALANCE, Ju,st what did the animals do on this continent before the white man came and for those few million years when there were no hunters to "kill them to keep them alive" as seems to be your philosophy? They seemed to survive, didn't they? In fact, they thrived, but didn't overpopulate the continent like we do in our madness. Don't worry, Mother Nature is pretty good at managing life. She doesn't need to rely on CTL to keep things balanced, Finally, I have met few hunters who tell me, "Why, I am struggling to preserve our wildlife! !' More likely, they're out to kill something for the thrill and power they feel - a sick form of amusement. Animals aren't furry little objects for us to kill at our leisure, They are as alive as you are, and a good deal freer, and have every right to live as you do, We are not superior for we are animals. If we aren't what are we? vegetable? or perhaps mineral? Hunters do supply a lot of money for preservation of wildlife but only so they can kill it again (usually). But what a society! The hunters are the only ones that keep the animals alive at all! Why doesn't the govern- ment foot the bill? Why? because hunting is a sick fun and profit business, as is everything else. LIFE is even a business now! It isn't precious anymore. WHAT A DRAG! Now the second letter... Yes! Killing for killing sake does strike home as a little strange, or should I say completely MAD, GREEDY, and NEUROTIC! Secondly, the Department of Lands and Forests are the so- called "people" responsible for inviting hunters from all over the world to a bear hunt. Perhaps you read about this, It was held just months ago, All these hunters, while paying the Lands and Forests Department a nice sum of "glorious" money (our false god, but not mine) waited high in trees while 20 feet below, huge piles of meat were laid and when the peaceful bears (yes, peaceful - they won't hurt Dear People, First of all, I AM a vegetarian and have been for over a year. But let's look at the picture before white man arrived. North America was once a totally free, alive, natural, perfect continent - Nirvana, in fact - an infinitely colored and diverse land of nature and nothing but. Then, thousands of years ago, the Indian arrived. Realizing reality, he knew that he was also an animal and of infinite beauty and ability, Therefore, he kept himself in total unity and har- mony with the world about him, All he saw was perfection and he knew who he was and thanked the Gods. Then, along came another race of animals who didn't think they were animals, but something superior - THE WHITE MAN HAD ARRIVED. The Indians, who weren't into playing "let's pretend we're better" said peacefully,"Come, there is plenty land for all. We will share this beautiful land with you." With infinite food available; infinite herbs to heal sickness (for the Indians realized the obvious, that God naturally left for us everything we need for survival - FREE); and infinite room and beauty, why not let these strangers have some. So what happened? The white man wiped out the Indian and took the whole continent in his unending greed. Until today, the white man is still on the march. The continent is mostly dead and dying. What was once a beautiful and harmonious "peaceful" land is now buried under concrete and plastic, pollution, over population and corrupted minds, The balance has been destroyed; the peaceful silence replaced by the constant drone of engines almost no matter where you go. Yet this is supposed to be the "new, improved North America". And now to the replies to my first letter, The first letter of Mr. McNutt.....First he talks of all these examples of animals we fixed up again - now more whitetail deer than 40 years ago! They lost their natural enemies because their natural enemies were dead, like you say, because of the spreading of so called civilization, but its hunters as well though. There are 700,000 hunters in Canada and millions in the States. This mechanized army of hunters has succeeded and continues to succeed in wiping out what's left on this continent.
