HAROLD .PAVIS Sunday service at St Pauls' Anglican was evensong to honor Rev. & Mrs. R.H. Rokeby- Thomas, The choir rendered an anthem and the sermon was omitted. Flowers in the church chancel were in memory of the late James Mossey and flowers on the altar table were given by Mrs. Wesley Doupe. Following the choral service Dr. Albert Berry, St. Marys showed colored pictures taken in India during erie of his visitations there and also a few of England. Gerald and Leon Paul sang a duet. Blanche and Rhea Mills visited for severai days last week with Mr. & Mrs. Harold Thomson, Parkhill Mr & Mrs. George Wheeler, Mrs. John Butters, Mrs. Frank Rodd. Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Copeland, Cynthia, Ellen and Deanna. Mr. & Mrs. David Wheeler and ,Jean Copeland were Sunday dinner guests with Mr. & Ans. John Rodd, Pamela and Calvin. Mrs _Effie Coverdale,Dunnville, Mrs. Ethel Walker. Caledonia and Mrs. Vera Mountain, St, Marys were Saturday evening dinner guests with Mr. & Mrs, Glenn Copeland and girls and Sunday supper guests with Jean Copeland Mrs. Grace Mills visited on Monday with Mr. & Mrs. Martin Arenthals and family, Lucan, Rev Harry Moore of Burlington called on Mrs. John Butters on Tuesday. presented Mrs. Rokeby-Thomas with a gift of crystal and Rev, Rokeby-Thomas with a paper- weight & gift of money from the congregations of St. Pauls Kirkton, St. Thomas,Granton and friends from Kirkton United. Leon Paul gave some humorous remarks. All were invited to the basement for lunch and a social time. Rev. Thomas will preach his farewell sermon at St. Pauls' Kirkton on Sunday. A.C.W. The A.C.W. of St Pauls'church was held in the church basement beginning with a smorgasbord supper. Mrs. Garth Blackler presided for the business meeting. Mrs. Pearl Budden convener read the Litany, Scripture passage was read by Mrs. Harold Davis. Mrs. Budden gave two humorous readings and then called on the speaker Mrs. R.H. Hokeby-Thomas who told of a few of their experiencesduring their life in the ministry. Mrs. Clayton Smith read an address and Mrs. Ila Blackler presented Mrs. Rokeby-Thomas with a gift of china and Mrs. Bill Graduates of grade 12 and 13 in the 1971-72 term at South Huron District High School were honored at Friday night's Commencement exercises. The guest speaker was a for- mer teacher at the school, Mait Edgar, now vice-principal of Lambton Secondary School in Petrolia. Edgar asked the graduating students to make use of two words --- commitment and in- volvement. He continued on the same theme, "Your good citizenship and daily effort is just as good to you as your diploma. The only thing the world owes you is the right to make a living." Church Sunday A special service celebrating "Church Sunday" was held in Kirkton United Church Sunday. Bill Athill read the scripture, Donna Switzer led in prayer, and Mrs. Stuart Sheir gave an in- teresting talk on the history of the church. Rev. Ray's sermon was en- titled "The Practical Implications of Church Worship, Witness, and Work," and the anthem was sung by the choir. Persona Is Mrs. Burns Blackler received word of the death of two relatives in North Branch Michigan and motored over there Saturday, Jenny Burgin, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Harold Burgin is a patient in St. Mary's Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Bertha McNaughton of North Bay is visiting with her mother, Mrs. Albert Beckill. Mrs. Hazel Pettifer, London has been visiting with her sister, Mrs. Dan Jarvis, portant as knowledge and I urge you to combine an active mind and willing body to reach your goals." Awards were presented to the top students in all departments of the school. Receiving academic shields and Lions club awards from Mel Gaiser were Susan Tuckey, Maryke DeMooy, Stephen Wuerth, Irene Westelaken, John Blackwell, Christine Haberer, Donald Noakes and Joan Allen, The first three mentioned also received Ontario scholarship awards for attaining an average of 80 per- cent or more during their grade 13 studies. The valedictorian was Jo-Anne Gaiser and she was introduced by last year's student council president Doug Mock. TECHNICAL STUDENTS GET AWARDS -- The top technical students at South Huron District high school received awards from various industrial firms at Friday's Commencement exercises at South Huron District High School.
