Sanders 6151 Double winners in fair races Three horses each won two heats during Saturday af- ternoon's harness races at the Exeter Fair. Jay Dee Riggs, owned by Jim Taylor of Hensall was first across the finish line in both heats of the class for non-winners of $500 lifetime. In the second race for non- winners of $1,000 in 1972, Grandpa Hardy owned by Roy Larnport of Centralia was a double heat winner. The driver was Ken Hardy, The other two heat winner was Adios Custer in the class for non- winners of $2,000 lifetime, Adios Custer is owned by Tom Hardy and Don Squire of Lucan and was driven by Ken Hardy. Ken Hardy had a terrific af- ternoon in the sulky. He reined four winners and finished second and third in his two other starts with Trimmer in the first and fourth heats. A cash award of $10 and the Day Tropy donated by Nother's Trophies of Exeter and London was won by Grandpa Hardy for racing the fastest heat of the MEN% 0A" LEAGUE C4TH(E. CLANDE60YE The Education and Cultural Activities group was in charge of the September meeting of the Clandeboye Women's Institute „held in the home of Mrs. Rupert Williams with Mrs. Art Hodgins convener. Roll Call, "Are you in favour of • the strap in school?" was an- swered by 13 members and 2 guests. Mrs. C. Coughlin President dealt with the business. The sponsorship of a girl in Italy was renewed. Guest speakers were Mrs, G.Godbolt, President of Mentally Retarded of South Huron and district and C, Lutchin, Director of the Adult Workshop, Dash- wood. 4-H Club Group I of the Clandeboye 44-1 Homemaking Clubs held its first meeting on Saturday, The project is "Dairy Fare," and 11 girls enrolled, Election of officers is: president, Sandra Steeper; secretary treasurer, Susan Hardy; press reporter, Pat Hodgins; leader, Mrs, Harold Hardy; assistant leader, Carolyn Hardy. The girls learned how to make a Quick Cheese Pizza and a Honey Nut Flip. Achievement Day Pat Hodgins placed first with her calf, in a class of 13 con- testants at the Parkhill Ailsa Craig District 4-H Dairy Calf Club Achievement Day held at the Parkhill Fair on September 22. Ken Simpson, Paul Hodgins, Bruce Furtney and Anne Steeper also received red ribbons. Ruth Conrsey took the Senior Showmanship honors and Cyn- thia Marshall won the Junior Showmanship. If you are planning a victory parade, please Plow match underway The 1972 International Plowing Match which started Tuesday near Sebringville will continue until late Saturday afternoon. The match held on the Oliver Zehr farm and neighbouring farms was officially opened Tuesday by former Canadian Prime Minister John G. Deifenbaker. Scheduled for a brief stop to- day, Thursday at the match is Federal Minister of Agriculture H.A. "Bud" Olson. Olson is to lead to-days parade and take part in official ceremonies before heading for the Owen Sound fall fair in the late afternoon, Location of the 1972 Inter- national Plowing Match and Farm Machinery Demonstration is on the Oliver Zehr farm and neighboring farms, Sebringville, Perth County, three miles west of Stratford on Highway 8. The exhibits will cover 75 acres. A large outdoor display and demonstration of farm equipment will be presented by machinery companies. Other displays will include 1978 automobiles, farm and home building supplies, home ap- pliances, snowmobiles and other recreational items. There will also be cooking and fashion shows, steam-driven farm equipment in operation, and a daily noon hour parade. Various government ministries and numerolis private organitations are among some 300 exhibitors represented, One competition that always attracts plowmen with a sense Of humor is the press, radio and television clasS. This group of inexperienced plowmen will turn their furrows starting at 2:30 p.m, on Friday, September 20. Following the parade on Thursday, September 28 the large number of entries in the Queen of the Furrow class will begin, Winners will be announced at the banquet Friday night. One Dashwood area family came close to having the op- portunity of voting on three oc- casions. In early August, a helium-filled balloon was found on the farin of Glenn Webb on the 14th con- cession of Stephen township. The balloon, found by Doris Webb came all the way from Kewaskum, Wisconsin and was supporting Schwartz for Sheriff. Webb immediately wrote a letter to Clarence Schwartz who was campaigning for the sherriff post in Washington County in Wisconsin. The Dashwood man's letter appeared in the Kewaskum paper and a copy was sent to Webb along with a reply from Sch- include our community 'in your route.
