`Tummy Teasers'
The Hurondale II 4-H girls held
their first meeting at the home of
Mrs. Jean Love, September 11.
The theme of this club is "The
Third Meal", and the club was
nicknamed, "The Tummy
Teasers".
Mothers were invited to the
first meeting and witnessed the
election of officers, who are:
president, Janet Pryde; vice
president, Cathy Read; press
reporter, Lori Rowe. Club
leaders are Mrs. Jean Love and
Susan Parsons.
The second meeting was held at
the home of Susan Parsons,
where the girls tested their skills
at the barbecue.

the afternoon's activities two new
residents were introduced and
welcomed to Huronview.
About 150 residents along with
several of their relatives and
friends were entertained on
Family Night by Earl and
Martha Heywood of Wingham.
The Heywoods are well known to
many of the residents at
Huronview not only for their
appearances on CKNX television
and radio but because Martha
was originally from Zurich and
Earl from Exeter, and they hay#4,
lived in Wingham for a number 6"0.:

musical and vocal numbers as
well as Earl's demonstration of
magic. Alice Buchanan thanked
the entertainers on behalf of the
residents.
With the fall and winter season
approaching one wonders what
can be done to make the spare
time of the residents at the Home
more enjoyable. If you or your
group have any ideas, we would
be glad to hear from you. Some of
the most urgent needs at present
are a sponsor for an over 90 club,
volunteers for various programs,
and variety programs for family
night with a special request for
vocal quartets.

is to put a print or picture on
wood, and then to coat it with
modge-podge, a glaze type of
product which goes on as a milky
substance. Three coats are
needed, and it takes only 15
minutes for each to dry, Thus it is
easy to produce a item in an
evening, said Mrs. Smith.
The third of Mrs. Smith's
courses will be in pearl jewelry
making. Pearls are also coming
back into fashion, and in this art
are combined with crocheted
cotton.
The fourth craft is called petal-
dip. This is a plastic dip, which is
made into flowers or things like
mobiles. In addition, she will
present a mini-course in
macrame, with just the basic
knots and techniques.
"The most important thing in
all these crafts is to use your
imagination," said Mrs. Smith,

She called her demonstrations
"one shot". Their purpose is just
to introduce the various crafts,
and to stimulate interest. Then
she will conduct further classes
throughout the winter to explore
the finer details and possibilities
of the erafts.
Mrs. George Sereda, on the
arts and crafts committee, has a
great deal more planned,
however. She has invited Marie
Mowat to come from Kitchener to
demonstrate her looming. In
addition to the actual demon-
stration, she will have items for
sale, such as placemats and
dresser sets and scarves.
But arts and crafts are not
solely the perogative of the ladies.

This year's Exeter Fair will
have a new exhibit. Under the
heading of poultry and rabbits in
the fair prize list is a section
devoted to pigeons.
Several area fanciers are
expected to show many of their
prize birds. Included in the en-
trants will be Bob Denomme of
Exeter and Allen Pfaff of
Crediton.
The poultry exhibits are ex-
pected to be larger than ever,
Two of the top show poultry men
in the area, George Tieman and
Cliff Pepper, both of Dashwood
will be in attendance.
At the recent Sarnia lawn show,
birds from the Pepper flock took
three of the four championships.
The Tieman birds are shown
quite extensively at fairs and
other shows throughout Western
Ontario. At the recent Canadian
National Exhibition in Toronto
Tieman captured four firsts, 13
seconds and 10 third prizes,
In addition to this week's
Exeter fair Tieman will be
showing at Brigden and
Teeswater fairs.
Many hours of work go into the
preparation of poultry for fair
showings. The Tiernan family
wash all their chickens with soap
and water several days before
heading for the fairs.
