Last Thursday an overnight camp Out was held near Morrison Dam. Early to bed didn't • necessarily mean early to rise for the twelve girls in the group. They talked three parts of the night. The boys were up about an hour before the sleepy eyed girls crawled out of their tent. We arrived back in Exeter Friday a afternoon very tired. playground has been very successful this year and the playground supervisors wish the kids well for the remaining part of their summer vacation. • The Lucan-Ilderton Jets have a couple of new things going for them when the 1972-73 hockey season gets underway in less than three months. The Jets will be playing their home games in a brand new arena at Ilderton and will be one of five clubs in a new league. The Lucan-Ilderton team will be moving up from Intermediate "B" to senior "B" and playing against Sarnia, Chatham, London and Woodstock. Each team will play 20 games Pee wees get exciting win The Exeter pee wees won a thrilling 4-3 decision Friday night over Goderich in the first game of the Western Ontario Athletic Association "B" playoffs. The second game will be played tonight, Thursday in Goderich. Originally set as a seven inning contest, the game went into extra innings when the score was tied 3- 3 and the Exeter club was able to push one run across the plate in the bottom of the tenth inning. Paul Pooley singled to open the tenth, stole second base, moved to third as Dan Bell was safe on an error and completed his cycle of the bases on Randy Fisher's single. Dan Bell went the distance on the Exeter mound and turned in a fine performance giving up only four well scattered hits while striking out seven. Steer This Way BY LARRY SNIDER Creditor .club breaks even In two recent outings, the Crediton bantams lost 4-1 to Clinton and downed Exeter 13-9 in an exhibition contest. The only Crediton run against Clinton came when Perry Preszeator singled and scored on a double by Mike Desjardine, Against Exeter, Larry Clarke led the Crediton hitters with a triple, double and two singles. The other hits were singles by Howard Schenk, Bruce Hodge, Paul Shapton, Steve Finkbeiner and Mike Desjardine, Brian Taylor was best for Exeter with a double and single to his credit. Other hits came in single fashion from John Gould, Mike Dougherty, Bill Wilson, Ken Pinder, Paul Brooks and Kevin Windsor. Wilson wins at Ausable tourney In Tuesday's regular junior golf tourney at the Ausable course Bill Wilson was the low net winner with a 90, in the 13 and over class. In second spot was two-time winner Brian Taylor, Ken Pinder registered the low net of 74. In the under 13 division Paul Pooley fired a respectable 90 to take top honors with Randy Parsons in second spot, Randy Fisher won the low net and Jim Sanders was the most honest golfer. Tuesday's regular men's nite saw Don Gifford emerge with the low score of 76. Next in line came Gerry Smith and Pete McFalls with respective scores of 84 and 88. Jim Russell won the low net with a 72 with Gary Heywood and Bob Nadon following. Don Heywood was named the most honest golfer. Drive carefully! Jets manager Don Urbshott will be attending a league schedule meeting, August 21. The executive of the club will remain the same as during the 1971-72 season when the Jets unable to find a suitable grouping played all exhibition games and lost to Napanee in the provincial final, Barry Beech is president of the club with Ernie Dobbinson serving ,as vice-president. Jim Thompson is the secretary- treasurer, Jack Nairn will be back again in the position of playing coach. The Jets organized in the fall of 1968 used the Randall arena at Huron Park for four years and won the OHA Intermediate "B" championship in 1969-70. In addition to a busy league schedule, the Jets will be making two exhibition trips to the United States. They will be travelling to Erie, Pennsylvania for a two game series, November 17 and 18 and will be off and flying to Reno, Nevada on January 12 for a similar series with the Reno Aces. Most of the players on last year's club are expected to be back. Four Exeter performers Terry and Bill Bourne, Barry Baynham and Larry Willert were members of the 1971-72 team. Ron Ryan who was with the Jets four years ago and has played in Woodstock and Nova Scotia since that time is expected back. A misfiring engine doesn't necessarily mean you need new sparkplugs.
