DASHWOOD Phone 237.3381 or 237.3422 WHA rosters _ Over the weekend we had a chance to look at the rosters of the teams expected to start play in the world Hockey Association in less than three months. We should say the rosters of players signed to date and several of the teams have very impressive names signed to contracts. The New England Whalers and Winnipeg Jets appear to be out in front with top notch signings. The acquisition of Bobby Hull by the Winnipeg club has to be the greatest piece of pilfering but they have other solid players to go with the Golden Jet. Winnipeg appears to be strong in goal with seasoned performers in Ernie Wakely and Joe Daley. In addition to Hull, the Jets have Bob Woytowich on defence with Danny Johnson of Detroit and former NHL'er Wally Boyer helping out up front. The New England Lakers should have one of the best defensive corps in the new leagues. Already signed are Brad Se!wood and Rick Ley of the Toronto Maple Leafs and former Leaf Jim Dorey, later of the New York Rangers. The Philadelphia Blazers are not far behind in talent with the likes of Bernie Parent in goal and forwards of the calibre of Johnny McKenzie, Brian Campbell, and Danny Lawson. In Quebec City the two big names with the Nordiques are recently appointed coach Maurice "The Rocket" Richard and Montreal Canadien star defenceman J. C. Tremblay. The choice of Richard as coach was a popular one in Quebec City with more than 1,500 persons attending a news conference at City Hall to make the announcement. The Alberta Oilers have at least four NHL performers in the fold. They include Al Hamilton of Buffalo, Doug Barrie of Los Angeles, Ed Joyal of Philadelphia and Toronto Maple Leaf Jim Harrison. Topping the Los Angeles Sharks list are Gerry Odrowski, Jim Watson and goalie George Gardner with Vancouver last season. Former U.S. Olympic goalie Jack McCartan has signed with the Minnesota Fighting Saints along with former NHL'ers Wayne Connelly, Jim Johnson, George Morrison and John Arbour. Leading the list of Houston Aeros are seasoned goal tender Wayne Rutledge, former Kitchener junior star Gordon Kannegeisser and Murray Hall and Ted Taylor late of the Vancouver Canucks. The Chicago Cougars have come up with Bob Kelly of Philadelphia and Rosaore Paiment of Vancouver along with former NHL rough and ready performer Reggie Fleming. Heading the New York Raiders will be Gary Kurt in goal along with Bill "Cowboy" Flett, Brent Hughes and Mike Robitaille. The Cleveland Crusaders and Ottawa Nationals made very few signings. Of the 158 players actually signed by the new teams, 44 played 25 or more games in the NHL last season. ) TA Ball Quiz CHECK OUR SPECIALS ON Ladies' Golf Gloves. A-USABLE. NAME ADDRESS CITY/TOWN PRM 113, It has taken a couple of months but the Exeter Expos playing for the first year in the Huron-Perth intermediate baseball league are shaping into a good ball club. After winning only one of their first dozen starts, the Expos have come back with four wins and a tie in their last six outings which is a good indication of the potential of the team. A good sign is the good fielding turned in recently. In the 8 - 1 win over Wingham Friday and the 6 - 5 decision over Thorndale the Expos turned in flawless fielding efforts without an error in either. While the Exeter club has failed to make the Huron- Perth playoffs they will be meeting Thorndale to decide which club will represent the H-P circuit in Ontario Baseball Association playoffs in the "B" category. At the same time, the pitching corps has been steadily improving with Jim Pfaff, Scott Burton and Larry Gibson turning in good performances. Best of luck to the Expos as they head down the playoff trail, At the same time, the Dashwood Tigers will be the Huron-Perth's only representative in the "D" category inprovincial play.
