Dropped into the Branch the
other day, my it sure was nice to
see so many of the comrades and
their ladies enjoying the relaxed
atmosphere of the Sea, Land and
Air Lounge and as you may have
guessed making good use of the
facilities which are supplied for
their entertainment.
The dart boards were busy as
was the shuffle board and the
cribbage boards — if this is any
indication we are in for a great
season of Tuesday night mixed
sports when the sessions get
underway later — keep it up

come up against this old pro.

set up a blood clinic.

Plan upkeep
of cemetery,
Recently the Nursery
Cemetery Board with Rev. W. C.
Tupling in the chair met in
Clandeboye United Church to
further plans for the perpetual
care of nursery cemetery
situated four miles north of
Lucan on Highway 4.
In the past interested local
relatives of the deceased have
kept the weeds and long grass cut
each summer.
Prior to this week's meeting it
was planned to set up a trust fund
in hopes that:the interest and the
possible sale of 100 plots would
finance the perpetual upkeep of
the cemetery. The board already
had $1000 in the treasury.
Letters have been sent out to as
many relatives of the deceased as
possible. The report of the
number of donations already
received and the number of
donations promised was very
encouraging.

Now here comes the bind, are
there enough persons in the area
willing to donate their blood to
the Red Cross to make it wor-
thwhile inviting them to Lucan to
set up a clinic.
Alright, here is what we will do
— If you are willing to become a
donor telephone the Royal
Canadian Legion at 227-4751 or
just drop in and leave your name
and telephone number.
If the response is as worthy as
the cause we will invite the Red
Cross to set up a clinic at Branch
540, Lucan. Comrades this is just
another way the Legion can be of
service to the community. It is
hoped our 'Good Friends' of the
Lucan and District Lion's Club as
well as all those who are able will
heed this invitation and make this
project so successful it will
become an annual event —

About 20 girls and a few mothers
get together every Wednesday
and play sports, do arts and
crafts, just whatever the girls
decide they would like to do. They
are now thinking in terms of
some adult recreation for the
winter months.
In order to supplement the
main recreational program, Mrs,
Couper is attempting to bring
in outsidedemonstrations and
entertainment, For example, she
hopes to have the Silent Partners,
a mime group from Middlesex
County, in Ilensall, Zurich and
Huron Park later in August.
Not only is Mrs. Couper
working with children, but she is
trying to encourage the interest
and development of more and
new arts and crafts among the

Mrs. Moira Couper is co-
ordinator of children's recreation
for Huron County, and thus far,
she has managed to make contact
with all the towns and villages in
the county.
Most of them have established
some kind of area recreation
program for the children. Several
communities previously have
had traditional playground
programs, but Mrs. Couper has
been working with them to im-
prove activities and toencourage
greater participation by more
children.
Mrs. Couper's approach to the
programs is to find out what the
children would like to do for the
summer, and then to see if there
are people in the community
skilled in that particular area
who would be willing to share
their knowledge, and help on a
short-term basis,
Another approach is to seek out
the talented people in the area
and see if an interesting program
can be developed around their
skills.
"I have found that in Huron
County there are many , many
people who know a lot about
many interesting subjects and
are quite pleased to be asked to
spend some time with the
children. This is especially true
of the more senior members of
our society," said Mrs. Couper.
