The Dashwood Tigers gained action during this, week. Wed-
five of a possible six points in nesday the Tigers wereheld toa 5.
Huron-Perth baseball league
Best turn-out
for lawn bowlers
The best turn-out of the season
provided excellent competition at
Tuesday's regular jitney of the
Exeter lawn boWling club with no
less than six two-game winners.
Anna Ballantyne was the big
winner with two wins, a plus of 20
and aggregate of 38, Next came
Cam Chapman with a plus of 15
and 32 aggregate to go with a pair
of victories.
Ray Smith was close behind
with identical wins and pluses but
an aggregate of 25. Next in line
came Kay Sneigrove, Mabel
Killough and Morley Wadsworth.
Saturday night's winners were
Gertrude Hamilton and Olive
Harvey. A social hour followed
the regular bowling.
Thursday night, Norma
Chapman compiled two wins, a
plus of 18 and aggregate of 24 to
lead the prize parade. Clarence
Down was second with a record of
two wins, plus of 17 and
aggregate of 26. Cam Chapman
placed third with Wilf Shapton
finishing fourth.
- 5 tie by the Exeter Expos,
Friday they downed Arva by a 12
- 5 score and Tuesday night they
edged Thorndale 6 - 5.
The Tigers see action on three
occasions this week to close out
the regular schedule. The Clinton
Colts will be in Dashwood Friday
night for an 8,30 contest, the
Tigers travel to Arva Sunday and
will be at home Tuesday night at
eight o'clock to Walkerton.
At the moment, the Dashwood
club has a season record of
eleven wins, five losses and a'
draw in 17 starts.
Fine Relief
Excellent relief pitching by
Jim Guenther preserved the 6 - 5
Dashwood win over Thorndale,
Tuesday. Guenther came to the
rescue of starter Bob Webb in the
eighth with only one out and
Thorndale runners on second and
third.
The big left hander struck out
the next two batters and retired
the sidein order in the ninth to get
the job done quickly.
Four solid singles in the
seventh sent the same amount of
runs home to put the Tigers
ahead 6 - 3. Thorndale scored
twice in the eighth before
Guenther was called on to put out
the fire.
Singling in the seventh for the
Tigers were Bob Hoffman, Pete
Ravelle, Jim Guenther and Gary
Hartman,
Bob Hoffman doubled and
came home on Pete Ravelle's
first inning single to open the
Tiger scoring and Bill Schade's
single sent Bob Hoffman home
with the second run in the third
frame.
A Pair of Rallies
The Tigers scored four runs in
each of the second and third
innings on the way to their 12 - 5
Friday win over Arva.
Bob Webb went the first three
innings on the Dashwood hill and
held the Arva club scoreless.
Brian Bestard finished up with a
four inning performance.
Bill Schade was the top Tiger
batter with a double and three
singles to his credit. John Hayter
was close behind with a pair of
doubles and a one-bagger.
Brian Bestard cracked out two
doubles while Bob Hoffman was
good for a pair of singles. Getting
one hit apiece were Bob Webb,
Dave Neilson and Jim Hayter.
The latter's hit was a triple.
Kerslake family
holds reunion
The Kerslake family picnic was
held in Riverview Park, Exeter,
July 16, with about 75 in at-
tendance.
Mr, and Mrs. Robt, Kerslake,
Exeter, were in charge of tables.
Sports followed dinner and
were conducted by Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Parkinson, RR 6 St, Marys
and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Patterson,
Lucan.
It was agreed to hold the picnic
in the same place on the third
Sunday in July next year.
The Exeter juveniles spent a
busy week in Western Ontario
Athletic Association reguiar
league play with four games on
the agenda.
Tuesday night, the locals
played a 10 - 10 draw with
Goderich. Sunday they were on a
northern trip playing a double
header. In an afternoon contest
they were trounced 11 - 2 by
Chesley while the evening game
in Port Elgin ended in a 6 - 6
stalemate. Thursday night in
Listowel the home team bounced
the locals by a score of 21.8.
The next action for the Exeter
juveniles will be at home Sunday
night at six o'clock when they
play host to Chesley. The club has
won six games while losing nine
and tying two contests.
Three runs in the bottom of the
sixth inning enabled the locals to
gain Tuesday's tie with Goderich.
Singles by Dave Parsons, Randy
Tiernan and Randy Becker and a
triple by Brad Gregus sent the
tying runs across the plate.
It was an uphill battle for
Exeter as Goderich scored nine
runs in the first inning off starter
Randy Becker. Mike Sangster
came on in relief and gave up
only one run the rest of the way.
Parsons and Becker each
collected two hits to lead the
Exeter batting attack.
Dwight Noels went all the way
on the mound for Exeter in the
Sunday tie with Port Elgin,
giving up 10 hits but was tough
with men on bases, especially in
the last three innings.
Perry Stover was the top
Exeter hitter with u pair of
singles while Guy McIntyre,
Dave Parsons, Randy Tiernan
and Doug Fairbairn collected one
hit apiece.
In the loss to Chesley, the locals
could manage single runs only in
the first and seventh innings
although they collected a total of
eight hits.
Joe Darling and McIntyre with
two singles each were tops for
Exeter. Next in line with one
safety apiece came Larry
Bourne, Randy Tieman, Mike
Sangster and Joe Darling.

Mrs. Hugh Davis assisted by
her daughter, Mrs. Jim Hoffman
held a buffet luncheon and euchre
for 20 members of St. Patrick's
church and friends Wednesday
afternoon. Mrs. Maurice Mac-
donald, Grand Bend, Mrs. Russel
Schroeder, Centralia, and Mrs.
Earl Atkinson, Lucan, were prize
winners. Proceeds were for the
budget,
Mr. & Mrs. Mervin Elston,
Centralia, were Sunday guests
with Mr. & Mrs. Heber Davis.
Randy Tieman pitched the first
six innings with Mike Sangster
finishing up.
Doug Fairbairn cracked out
three hits to dominate the Exeter
batting line-up against Listowel.
Single safeties were clouted by
Dave Parsons, Mike Chandler,
Randy Tieman and Joe Darling.
Paul McKnight went the full
distance on the mound for
Exeter.
