Huron sewer
Exeter council agreed this
week to further investigate the
feasibility of extending a sewer
on Huron St. to allow Dr. R.
Roelofson to hook his house into
the line.
• He had appeared at a previous
council meeting, outlining the
problems he is experiencing and
council authorized works
superintendent Glen Kells to
investigate the depth of the sewer
and approximate cost of ex-
tending it,
• Kells told council this week the
sewer was deep enough and
estimated the cost at $13 per foot.
He said 100 feet would be
needed to service the Roelofson
home, but suggested it may be
better to go 300 feet as this is the
distance at which manholes are
placed.
He was asked to check the
matter with engineer B. M. Ross
& Associates and also to in-
terview neighboring property
owners.

Owner won't sell
— Continued from Front Page
building would be erected in the
same location.
He and. Boyle differed in their
opinion of whether it would in fact
be considered a new building,
If it is, then it would have to
comply with the zoning bylaws
regarding setbacks and parking
requirements,
No one was certain as to what
parking requirements were,
Councillor Helen Jermyn noted
that one section of the bylaw for
places of assembly required one
Parking spot for every four seats,
with the exception of commercial
properties along Main St, bet-
ween Huron and Sanders.
Keller said he couldn't see why
the commercial area was defined
only from Huron to Sanders. He
said more should be included and
pointed out that another
restaurant in the downtown
blocks would not require parking
spaces at all, while the Burkley
possibly could.
Mrs. Jermyn_ pointed out
council would require a site plan,
showing the lot size and the
building on the lot, before a
decision could be made.
"I prefer not' to make a quick
decision," she noted,
Keller replied that Tzavaras
was "losing hundreds" by being
closed and it was unfair to keep
the restaurant closed any longer
than necessary.
He also explained the business
had been in existence for many
years and couldn't understand
why it could not be rebuilt,
Boyle suggested Tzavaras
should sell the property and build
elsewhere, but he was once again
reminded the owner did not wish
to relocate.
The Reeve said the Fina
property at the intersection of
Highway 4 and $3 would make an
ideal restaurant location,
"It could be a white elephant on
top of a white elephant," Keller
replied.
Councillor Ken Ottewell said he
would be prepared to go as far as
giving the owner a permit to
demolish the gutted bhilding as
soon as clearance is received
from the insurance company
ihvolved,
Keller then asked if council
would hold a special meeting if a
'site plan was prepared.
The Mayor indicated he would
do so.
Further reference was made to
the property later in the meeting.
Works superintendent Glen
Kells told council the town men
and equipment had been hired by
an inspector from the fire
marhsal's office dUring his in-
vestigation of the blaze. •
During discussion of the
matter, Mayor Delbridge
commented that the property
owner knew the town wanted to
buy the property, "and wants it
badly."
At the conclusion of the
meeting, council went into a
committee of the whole to discuss
the property.
They made no report after
coming out of the closed session.
However, Mayor Delbridge did
note the time and said it would
soon be dine to go to the Burkley
for coffee.
"We won't be able to do that,"
he reminded himself and then
added "1 hope we won't be able to
do it."
