Elvin Thornton was in charge of both morning and evening services at the Lucan Pentecostal Church. In the morning service, Brenda Dy,keinan, _sang_ two solos, ac„. collipanied by her mother a; The piano. Rev, & Mrs. Thornton' also sang, with Mrs, Thornton playing her accordion. During the evening service, the young men's quartet sang a number, with Allan Melanson at the piano. Rev. & Mrs. Thornton again sang a duet, Rev. Thorn- ton's sermon was "What Think Ye of Christ?” Anglican The flowers in the Sanctuary Sunday were given to the memory of Frank Hardy Sr. by his wife and family. Miss Lois Legg presided at the organ for the joint service with Lucan United Church. July 16, 23, 30 and August 6 and 13, the congregation of Holy Trinity Church will meet in Lucan United Church for joint services. Saturday, July 15, Holy Trinity Church will be the scene of the marriage of Donald Ralph Needham and Petronella Catherine Johanna Maria Jen- sen. Their banns were read Sunday. Mr. & Mrs. Mervin Carter spent the weekend with their daughter and son-in-law Mr. & Mrs, Bill Walden, Chatham. Mrs. Fran Bloye, Mrs. Susan Brister and Mrs. Cheryl Camp- bell, all of Thorndale, visited with Mr. & Mrs. 'Harry Murless Tuesday. St. James Anglican Church Sunday, Clandeboye United Church worshipped in St. James' Church. Mrs. Allan Hill presided at the organ. Rev. R. A. Carson preached on the 'Role of the Layman.' He said that there was a great need for more active lay - participation in the life of the Church. Too much is'left up to the clergyman. Lay people should visit the sick and the shut-ins; should take a more active part in leading the worship. He said he would welcome lay persons who would read prayers, lessons and even preach sermons. The next service at St. James' Church will be on August 20, the 12th Sunday after Trinity. By GORDON MORLEY The July meeting of the UCW was held Wednesday evening in the church basement. Mrs. Jack Trevithick had the worship with the theme "Blessings." Scripture was read by Mrs. Wasnidge and a reading was given by Mrs. Trevithick, followed by prayer. Mrs. Wm Fenton took over for the business and 12 members answered the roll call. Mrs. Howard Fenton was then presented with a gift from the society before leaving for her new home in Stratford. The singing of a hymn brought the meeting to a close. Group 1 ladies served lunch. Most knocking is done by folks who don't know how to ring the bell. James Anglican Church, Clandeboye, was the scene orthet marriage of Elizabeth Alibe Hill, and William G. McHugh, July 1, 1972. The double-ring ceremony was conducted by Rev, R. A. Carson. Jana Lyn Stewart was the soloist, accompanied by Elizabeth Dawson. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a formal- length gown of polyester organza and swiss embroidered lace. It had a high neckline, long full sheer sleeves, and tight cuffs, edged with lace and mauve ribbon. Matching embroidered lace and ribbon formed a bib effect on the front and back of the bodice. The full circular skirt fell into a chapel train. The shoulder length illusion veil was held by a crown of pearls and matching mauve ribbon. The bride carried a crescent of white daisies, pink roses and stephanotis. The bride was attended by matron of honor, Mrs. Stephen St. Pierre, and bridesmaids Susan Hill, Mrs. Earl Steele and Linda Lewis, They were similarly dressed in mauve crepe, with matching lace hoods, and carried bouquets of white mums and pink roses. Laurie Jane St. Pierre was the flower girl, and Mark Scott was the ring bearer. Best man was George Graham, • Dutierin Hotel DALEY'S WEEKLY COMMENTS 30th anniversary on the beaches of Dieppe on the 19th of August 1942. The Canadian delegation will be headed by Mr. Laing and the Canadian Ambassador in Paris, the Honourable Leo Cadieux. The delegation will include members of the Senate and the House of Commons, as well as representatives of the regiments, corps and services who took part in the raid. The raid's two Vic- toria Cross winners, Reverend John Foote and Colonel Cecil Merritt, will also be invited to join the official delegation. Mr. Laing stated that a Canadian Forces band and Guard of Honour will provide additional support and colour to the event. The official party will travel to London by Armed Forces air- craft and then follow the route of the 1942 assault force from Newhaven, by ferry, across the channel to the historic French port of ,Dieppe.. The City; of Dieppe has proclaimed the week of August 13th to 20th as 'Canada Week' and the Department of External Affairs will present the Canadian image via an exhibition barge moored in Dieppe Harbour during that week, a festival of Canadian films and exhibitions of Canadian photographs and handicrafts. Several regimental associations of Dieppe veterans have already indicated they will be making pilgrimages to Dieppe in August to take part in the commemorative services. One unit in particular, the South Saskatchewan Regiment, is planning to unveil its memorial to the members of the Regiment who died at nearby Pourville in 1942. and that's 30 for this week, remember Conscience is that still, small voice that quells a wicked thought, then adds, "Besides, you might get caught." Park, Arva last Sunday. This reunion has been held over quite a number of years in memory of the family ancestor William Wakefield Revington, pioneer of this area. A smorgasbord dinner was held followed by sports and much reminiscing, This reunion was held under the direction of Dr, & Mrs. H, W. Revington, Mayfair Drive, London, Hardy The 19th Hardy reunion was held at the Lion's Park Lucan recently with 70 persons at- tending and four guests. Sports and a ball game were enjoyed by all. As this was Mrs, Frank Hardy Sr.'s birthday, it also was celebrated, Guests were Mr. & Mrs. Richard Wise and Dick Stamm with son Brian, all of Canton Ohio, Banting The Banting Reunion was held last Sunday at Poplar Hill with an attendance of 87, Dinner was served followed by sports for the young and old. The oldest lady present was Mrs. Elsie Samton; oldest gentleman, Willis Dorman, Ailsa Craig; youngest baby, Jeffner Thompson. The bride wore a floor length dress of beige and turquoise, with beige accessories. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alan W. Hill, Clan- deboye, and the groom is the son of W. G. McHugh and the late Mrs. McHugh, Grand Bend. Prior to the wedding, the father of the groom entertained at a rehearsal dinner at his home in Grand Bend.
