Bend, for the Centralia U.C.W.
picnic last Thursday evening.

visited Saturday evening with
Blanche and Rhea Mills.
Jacquline Beckett, R.N., Galt
spent the weekend with her
parents, Mr. & Mrs, Lawrence
Beckett.
Mrs. Adrian Pringle and
Wayne, London, visited Sunday
evening with Mr. & Mrs. Glenn
Copeland, Cynthia and Deanna.

The key note address was given
by Dr. E. Stanley Jones,
missionary, author and founder of
the United Christian Ashram
Movement 40 Years- ago, The
movement started in India and
rapidly spread to the United
States and Canada and. from
there to Finland, Sweden,
Europe, Latin America and
Japan.
He spoke en the subject "The
kingdom of God is within you."
He was critical of the social
gospel practiced in many
churches. He termed it a "body
without a soul, a corpse," He was
critical of the personal gospel
without social concerns, labelling
it "a soul without a body, a
ghost." Dr. Jones stated, "I do
not want either, I want a totally
new person in Christ."
Following the keynote address
the impressive list of speakers,
from many countries, during the
congress included the Rev.
Gordon Hunter, well known
United Church minister from
Toronto.
The general program of the
event included intensive Bible
study, lay witness sessions, faith-
in-action seminars and prayer
groups.
Other activities included a
panel discussion under the
auspices of the Near East
Ecumenical Committee for
Palestine refugees. A tour to the
Kalandia refugee camp on the
West Bank was arranged where
the delegates saw first hand the
projects conducted there by the
World Council of Churches.
At the close of the congress,
tours were arranged to give the
opportunity of viewing the
historic sites of the country and to
see the many archaeology
diggings being conducted.
Phenomenal finds have been
made by these diggings as recent
as the last three years.
We often wish that we could
find something that tasted as
good as the nickel ice cream
sodas we bought fifty years ago.

Mrs. Mildred Hallman, sister
of Karl Guenther, passed away
recently at Listowel Memorial
hospital and was buried at
Crediton cemetery.
Karen Guenther is holidaying
in London with her cousin,
Colleen, at the home of her aunt
and uncle Mr. & Mrs. Ken
Westman.

the weekend in Detroit at the
Stage course
for leaders
A leadership training course
for playground leaders was held
at Clinton recently.
The course was planned by the
co-ordinator of children's
recreation for Huron County.

Roulston, Jim Fletcher, Laurie

Goderich And Lucknow.
On the first morning the group
participated in craft sessions and
a hike experiencing various types
of leadership. Discussion and
film followed showing how dif-
ferent leadership styles can
affect the success of the
playground program,
In the evening, Mrs, William
Batten and Mrs. Jack Roeda of
Exeter tame to take part in a
Sessioti on pottery, macrame and
creative drama. John Park of the
recreation staff of Goderieh gave
a short presentation of first aid.

with group dynamics And
problem solving sessions, setting
up programs and evaluation.
