Soccer tourney continues Sunday The opening rounds of the Ausable district soccer league tournament were played Sunday in Strathroy with four teams qualifying for further cham- pionship play. Six games to complete the series will be played Sunday at Huron Park. Strathroy will meet the Grand Bend Colonials in the first semi-final game at three o'clock with Parkhill and Taxandria battling an hour later in the second. The consolation semi-finals have Exeter and Huron Park meeting at one o'clock with Grand Bend and Aliso Craig facing each other at two o'clock. The consolation final will get Brian Taylor rapped a double to score Bill Wilson from first base with the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth, Exeter had taken a 3 - 0 lead in the third inning only to have Crediton bounce back with a trio of scores in the top of the fifth. Knocking out singles to provide the Exeter scoring power in the fourth were Jim Gregus, John Gould and Bill Wilson. Crediton's only three runs came on singles from the bats of Matthew Muller, Paul Shapton, and Perry Preszcator and Howard Schenk's booming triple. Bill Wilson went the distance on the mound for Exeter and gained the victory. He chalked up eight strike-outs and gave up only seven hits, three outside the fifth inning uprising. The other Crediton safeties were singles by Larry Clarke, Mike Desjardine and Paul Fydenchuk. Mike Desjardine was the Crediton hurler and he gave up eight hits while fanning an even half dozen. Bill Wilson led the Exeter hitters with three singles in four appearances at the plate. In a tremendous pitching effort of holding the Dashwood boys hitless, Clarke chalked up a total of 17 strike-outs. A walk and a couple of errors in the sixth inning, allowed Mark Chandler to score the only Dashwood run After walking the first batter in the game, Clarke struck out the next eight batters to get a good start on his no-hitter. The Crediton Youngsters scored in every inning but the last as they downed Dashwood 8 -1. In the first inning Ron Smith's single sent Howard Schenk home and in the second Perry Presz- cator walked and came around to count on Mike Desjardine's two out single, Desjardine in turn was thorwn out by Dashwood catcher Marty Becker as he was at- tempting to steal second base. In the Creditors third, Howard Schenk singled, Mathew Muller was hit by a pitch and both came on to score. Paul Shapton counted in the fourth without the aid of a base hit. The big Crediton rally came in the fifth when a walk, a couple of errors along with Ron Smith's single produced three runs. Exeter Wins The Exeter bantams scored a 4 - 3 win over Crediton in Exeter Friday night in an exciting contest that needed an extra inning to decide a winner. They downed the Exeter midgets on two occasions by scores of 7 - 3 and 11 - 1, Tuesday and Friday, outscored Hanover • by an 8 - 3 count Sunday and repeated with a similar score over Crediton Tuesday night. Against Creditors Pat Bedard and John Mommersteeg combined on the Zurich mound giving up only five hits as they chalked up three strike-outs. On the opposing mound Kevin Bestard was even stingier giving up only two hits to the winners but wildness kept him in trouble on numerous occasions. Monday night, the midgets moved within one point of the league leading Lions as they handed them a 42 - 13 trouncing.
