A surprise farewell party for Mr. & Mrs. George Walker was held June 28 in the Hensall Legion Hall. Arranged by the staff of the Queensway Nursing Home, the Mr. & Mrs. Laird Mickle spent an afternoon recently with Mr. & Mrs. Harold Currie at Sebringville. Mr. & Mrs. Don MacLaren, Jodi and Brooke of Scarborough visited this week with Mrs. MacLaren's mother, Mrs. Bertha MacGregor. Mr. & Mrs. Jim Hyde, Lisa and Jacqueline spent the weekend with relatives in Oshawa. Mr. & Mrs. Robert Price of Bloomington, Indiana visited this week with the latter's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Chapman and Rod. Mr. Charles Mickle, Hamilton and Ann Mickle, Toronto visited over the weekend with their parents Mr. & Mrs. Laird Mickle. Monday evening in the Hensall Legion Hall a draw for a TV set was made. Earl Campbell drew the winning ticket which belonged to Mrs. Alex McMichael, Clinton, The Hensall Legion sponsored the draw and Mrs. Clarence Reid sold the winning ticket. selections during the evening. A skit entitled "A Day at Kingsway," was presented by five members of the staff; Peggy Volland, Wanda McLinchey, Donna Lavery, Eunice Aikenhead, and Minnie Noakes. This production was very much enjoyed by everyone. A set of wall plaques was presented to Mr. & Mrs. Walker with Mrs. Noakes reading the address and Mrs. Aikenhead making the presentation. Mr. & Mrs. Walker replied and a smorgasbord luncheon was enjoyed at the close of the get- together. Mr. & Mrs. Walker are leaving Hensall soon to reside in London where Mrs. Walker will be on the staff at Westminster Hospital. By MRS. J. Mr. & Mrs. Robert Mayer, Farquhar, visited Friday evening with Mr. & Mrs. John Tern- plema n Mr. & Mrs. Fritz Solomon, Elizabeth and Tom, Shelleydelle, Indiana, holidayed for a few days with Mr. & Mrs. Russell Miller and family. Mr. & Mrs. Norman Dow are holidaying in Western Canada. Mr. & Mrs. Alec Miller, Brian, Linda and Dianne spent the holiday weekend camping at Pine Lake. Mr. & Mrs. Bruce Eaton and family moved into their home the community from Orillia on the weekend. Council decided to go through with the order, if they can defer the date of payment for six months. Council also received a letter from the Construction Safety Board of Ontario. A bill has been passed in legislature, transfering all the duties of county con- struction inspectors to the province. Council thus decided to apply to the province to gain the services of a provincial in- spector. Clerk Earl Campbell gave his mid-term report of accounts receivable for 1972. Thus far, the council has collected over $9,300 in over -all receipts, and has had expenditures of almost $18,000. Thus council has spent almost $8,000 more than it has taken in. Council approved the ap- plication of four building per- mits: J. Aikenhead, for a porch; Ira Geiger, for a garage; W. G. Thompson and Sons for a storage building; and a house for the Hensall Live Stock Sales. By MRS. HENSALL PARK EQUIPMENT — The Hensall Kinsmen club continues to provide youngsters of the area with recreation equipment. T-A photo Cite need of repairs at Hensall cemetery Hensall Council received three tenders Monday night for the replacement of approximately 2,200 feet of sidewalk in the village. They accepted the bid of Gerald Shantz for $2 per lineal foot. Council was also approached by a delegation representing the Cemetery Board. Robert MacGregor and Bob Cameron said that extensive work needs to be done on the cemetery. They have taken in new land, which must have fill and be landscaped. The cemetery also has to have a new fence and the chapel must be painted. In addition, Mr. Cameron said that the older parts of the cemetery, which date back to the 1830's are sunken in, and must be filled and the stones levelled. It was suggested that some of this work could be done through the Winter Work program, as happened in Exeter last winter. Reeve Baker said that council would be willing to apply to the Winter Works program for assistance, and that council would be quite willing to pay its share of the costs. The delegation were not able to quote cost prices, however, so it was decided to let the matter ride until the Cemetery Board could present a budget and come up with some working figures and approximate costs.
