in Holland. It is twenty years
since she left that land and she
found so many changes that
nothing looked familiar, even at
the place of her birth, There are
many high-rise apartment
buildings, murderous traffic with
swiftly moving cars, a tangle of
bicycles, and everywhere the
sense of overcrowding. It was
Mrs. Verkerk's first plane ride
and she completely enjoyed it,

Detroit, visited with relatives in
the area last week.
Last Wednesday 19 Explorers
walked to Exeter to raise money
for the Adult Workshop. Mrs.
Walter Fydenchuk, Mrs. Cliff
Kenney, Mrs. Earl Lippert and
Mrs. Jim MacDonald were in
charge of the group.
Mr. & Mrs. Wolfgang Janzen,
Windsor, and Gwen Finkbeiner,
London, were Sunday guests of
Mrs. Alvin Finkbeiner. Mr, &
Mrs. Janzen left Monday for
Europe,

On June 25th the descendants of
John and Agnes, Corneille
Switzer 23rd biennial reunion was
held in Queens Park, Stratford
with 169 registering. The Reuben
Tree had the largest number
registering with 42 present.
The smorgasbord dinner and
supper were convened by George
and Norma Webster, Milgrove,
assisted by Peter and Audrey
Switzer, Stratford, Tom and
Blanche White, Sebringville and
Grant and Marian Bartman,
Clifford.
Following dinner a short
business meeting was held. The
president, Elmer Harding of
Gorrie welcomed everyone and
expressed his appreciation to all
who turned out considering the
wet weather. Secretary-
treasurer, Jean Copeland,
Woodham, gave the Cairn report
and Mrs. Flossie Sgariglia the
historian report.
The memorium was given by
Miss Maude Harding, Toronto
followed by a minutes silence.
Since 1970 reunion there were
24 deaths, 12 marriages, and 24
births reported.
Mrs. John Trevithick, London,
reported on the crests which
could be obtained for jackets, etc.
The minimum order to be placed
must be 80.
Several letters had been
received expressing regrets at
not being able to attend.
The report of the nominating
was given: Past president,
Elmer Harding, Gorrie;
president, Irvine Riehl; vice
president, William P. Switzer,
Stratford; and secretary-
treasurer, Jean Copeland,
Woodham.
Past-president, Elmer Harding
presented president. Irvin Riehl
with the carved cane, Newp
Zealand kinsfolk token and the
Switzer charter crest, an honor
given the President while in
office. Irvine said it was a great
honor to accept the cane and also
to be elected president.

presented prizes tothe oldest lady
present, Mrs. Norman Harding,

The Zurich Centennial Band
Tattoo will again entertain people
in the area, Saturday.
The tattoo will be featuring the
Midlanders' Drum and Bugle
Corps which draws its members
from London, Woodstock, and
Stratford.
The corps comprises 100 boys
and girls including 40 bugles, 20
drums and 20 color guards. They
have travelled extensively in
Canada and the United States
winning many championships in
both countries over the past six
years.
The Zurich Centennial Band
will also participate in the show.
Both the band and the event were
named after their conception for
Canada's centennial celebrations
in 1967.
Other bands featuring colorful
costumes, drills, marches and
music will be on hand, they in-
clude the Goderich Laketown
Band, the Clinton. Legion Pipe
Band, the Forest Excelsior Band,
the London Ladies Band and the
Durham Girls Drum and Bugle
corps.

held in St. Patricks Parish Hall
Thursday evening to honour Mrs.
Anna Rokeby-Thomas, author of
"Ningiyuki's Igloo World."
Mrs. Ron Carroll welcomed the
guests and introduced Mrs.
Thomas who told tales of her
three years spent in the Arctic
with her husband Dr. H. Rokeby-
Thomas. Mrs, Jim Hoffman,
Dashwood, sang two solos, Mrs.
Hugh Davis thanked Mrs.
Rokeby-Thomas and Mrs. Hoff-
man. A question period followed
and tea was served, Guests were
present from London, Lucan,
Centralia and Exeter.
