The local school gained a total of 144 team points and four Exeter students were named individual champions. Stephen Central finished in second place with 57 points while theother four schools were closely bunched. JAD McCurdy school at Huron Park was third with 49 points while Hensall and Usborne Central were right behind with 48 points apiece. Zurich public school followed with 42 points. The individual champions from Exeter were Wanda Newby, Laurie Wildfong, Jocelyn Wasson and John Wildfong. Joining the champion group were Ron Smith of Stephen and Dwight Consitt of Hensall. DIL leads Rec loop Jim Johnson went the pitching distance for the Northlanders and chalked up a half dozen strike- outs. Five Exeter runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, three coming after two were out preserved the draw for the Exeter club. Paul Brooks smashed his second home run of the night with Ken Pinder on first as the result Day camps set for Exeter, Park Starting July 4, all children of the area between the ages of eight and 12, and/or grades III to VII will have the opportunity to attend a day camp, operating under the auspices of a govern- ment Opportunities For Youth grant, Headed by Don Jolly, Bob Read, Kathryn Hall and Mary Ellen Gingerich, the program will operate in two-week cycles. Running Monday through Friday, the cycles will begin July 4, July 17, July 31, and August 14. A child may attend any or all of these cycles, but regular at- tendance during the cycle in question will greatly benefit the child, and will make it much easier to plan the various programs. Activities included will be crafts, games, sports, hikes, cook-outs, drama, films, music, nature. lore and bus trips. The day camp is not limited to town children, but is available to all are a children. However, parents must provide tran- sportation for their children to either Huron Park or to Exeter. Programs will operate each day in both communities; at the Exeter Public School, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; and at the J.A.D. McCurdy Public School in Huron Park, 9 a.m. to noon, and 1 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. The program is operating with the approval of the R.A.P. in Exeter, but is totally independent of it. The group in charge would appreciate donations of materials from area industries for the crafts projects. They would also like volunteers to help with the programs. Inquiries may be directed to Box 369, Exeter or 235-2991, between 9 and 5, until June 30. In addition to the four university students working on the day-care centre, eight area high school students will also be helping. They are Steve Wuerth, Exeter; Larry Mason, Huron Park; Terry Janke, Exeter; Dan Stuckless, Huron Park; Deb Walsh, Huron Park; Barb Stanlake, Exeter; Dianne McCann, Dashwood; and Mary Anne Gielan, Crediton. Brian Taylor and Bill Wilson walked with one out in the Exeter sixth and Dan McIver blasted a round tripper. Pinder then walked and set the stage for Brook's second home of the night to put the two clubs on even terms. The Exeter pitching chores were shared by Paul Brooks, Ken Pinder and Bill. Wilson. Darrell Preszcator was the top hitter for the winning Crediton club with two singles and a double in three official trips to the plate. Second baseman Gerrard Brennan had the unique distinc- tion of drawing a walk in each of his five appearances at the hat. Mike Cronyn and Larry Ryan shared the pitching duties for the winners. Tied for second spot with six points apiece are Custom Trailers and the Dufferin Hotel. Hensall follows with five points and the Mainstreeters are league cellar dwellers with a single point. Four runs in the third inning started the Northlanders off on the right foot and they were able to hang on to earn a 6 - 5 decision over the Dufferin Leafs in Exeter and district Rec softball league action, Wednesday night. Lloyd Mathers and Rick McDonald walked to start the Northlander rally in the third. Carl Mills and Cy Blommaert followed with singles and Chuck Dalrymple delivered a double to send four runs across the plate. The other two runs for the winners came in the fourth when Don Wells and McDonald walked and Blommaert cracked a two-bagger. The first Dufferin run was produced in the third when Don Appleby singled and was chased around by similar hits from the bats of Don Rolph, Bob Richardson and Jack Glover.
