Need overtirn0 Sunday's 6 - 4 win for Napanee was accomplished in overtime as the Jets rushed back with a third period rally after being two goals down midway through the final session. The scoring started quickly with the Jets hitting the board in the first minute of play, Steve Storey started the play away at centre ice with a clearing pass to Barry Baynham near the Napanee blue-line, Baynham went sweeping past the Comet The current best-of-seven series between the Lucan- ilderton Jets and the Napanee Comets for the Ontario Hockey Association Intermediate "B" championship could be shaping up as a repeat of two years ago. In the 1969-70 final round, the two teams Split the opening games at the Huron Park arena. The same thing happened this weekend with the Jets taking Saturday night's game by a 5 - 3 count with the Comets coming back to win 6 - 4 Sunday af- ternoon. The Jets make the return trip to Napanee Saturday morning with games scheduled for Saturday night and Sunday af- ternoon, The flip was won by the Thanks to the coaches Dear Editor, follows their boy during his Minor Every Mom and Dad who Hockey career secretly sees Thames Road boy in Sea forth hospital • Mrs, William Roweliffe gave a reading "I Am Simon", and reading, "Along The Way", was given by Mrs. Bev. Gary Hart shot what proved to he the winner at ?.35 and with only a minute to go Bonner fired the puck the length ,of the ice into the empty L-I net. Sa me pattern Saturday night it was the same story with the Jets coming from behind late in the third period, but this time they were able to stay in front. The Jets took the lead in the first period with two goals, both coming on three-way passing efforts. Jacques Cousineau registered the first with help from Jamie Robb and Don Urbshott while Steve Storey and Bob Knack started things away for Jack Nairn for the second on a power play. Rick Gerow, son of Napanee coach Walter Gerow notched the only goal of the second period on an unassisted effort at the 14.54 mark. Early in the third session, the Comets struck quickly to take a 3 - 2 lead on successful shots by. Earl Smith and Rick Gerow, Only a minute later, Jack Nairn converted a pass from Ron Cauduro to put the two clubs back on even terms, With the score tied at 3 - 3 and less than six minutes to go Doug Galloway took over. At 14.08 Galloway took a pass from Bill White, was able to get loose behind the Napanee defence and flipped a backhander into the net It was Galloway with the in- surance goal at 16.50 firing in his own rebound after taking a pass from defenceman Don Urbshott, The Saturday night attendance was slightly more than 400. defence and with Jack Nairn and Storey moving in as decoys Baynham slid a hard shot into the far corner of the net from a sharp angle. The Comets wasted little time in getting back on even terms with captain Bob Brown corn- pleting a three-way effort with Bill Wilkinson arid Gary Hart at 3,20 with the Jets playing two men short. Napanee took the lead for the first time near the 14 minute mark when Meehan Bonner fired a quick shot past Lorne Daer in the Jets net. A Lucan-Ilderton power play paid off early in the second period producing the tying goal from the stick of playing coach Jack Nairn, Getting the play started were Steve Storey and Dick Doughty. Gary Hart sent Napanee back in front at 10.14 of the second frame on a similar situation with Bob Knack of the Jets resting in the penalty box. Bob Brown notched his second goal of the game at 5,48 of the third to put Napanee into what looked like an insurmountable lead. The two goal deficit didn't affect the Jets to any great extent as they were able to tie the score in fairly short order. The third Jets goal came on the best effort of the afternoon. Veteran forward Doug Galloway picked up a pass from Bob Knack near his own blueline and he went the rest of the way to out manoeuvre the defence and deke goalie Dave Gavel at 12,29, Only a minute and forty-one seconds later, it was Galloway again on another nifty effort to put the puck into the opposing net and send most of the crowd of over 900 into wild cheering. The Jets continued to press in the final few minutes of regulation time and especially in Bantams win 13' crown Personals A number of people from this community attended the Canadian Canners banquet Thursday evening at the Exeter Legion Hall, Mr. & Mrs. Doug Rohde, Exeter, were shivareed Friday evening. The Exeter bantams scored a 6 - 2 win Wednesday night to win the Shamrock minor bantam "B" championship. After the Exeter club had scored early in the first period, Huron Park scored twice to take a 2 - 1 lead by the five minute mark of the second period. From this point, the Exeter boys took over and scored five unanswered goals, Brian Taylor and Randy Regier each scored twice to pace the Exeter scoring attack, Single goals came from the sticks of Dave Regier and Larry Clarke. Scoring in single fashion for Park were Randy Funston and Peter Catlos. herself or himself as coach and manager of the team. They see many things that would be done differently in the art of coaching — this or that boy would play better at another position, or should be given more or less ice time during critical plays. Or maybe a stiff reprimand given to a persistent offender of hockey rules. The changes made would be as varied as there are parents viewpoints. I recently had the opportunity to try out my ability as a coach to the Exeter Bronco Novice team. This came about to allow the regular coach to play against his own team (and son) when the Moms and Dads challenged their sons in a hockey game to herald the closing of another successful hockey season. I don't know why I was chosen to take coach Bogart's bench duties but it couldn't have been a better choice. All those ideas of coaching a boys hockey team that I had gathered from weeks of ob- servation from the bleacher stands, could now be put into action. What a game it would be! What a demonstration of abilities! And thats exactly what it was. The organized smooth running pattern of play disap- peared in the first five minutes of the game. The kids were hollering for attention, more ice-time, a change of position. The goalie played out of his net like a wandering Eddie Shack. Bedlam broke loose and the roof caved in on all my theories by the third whistle. Never did I anticipate the frustrations that a coach must endure while guiding 15 little boys in only 45 minutes of play. Now I can imagine what it • BOYS AGE 7 THROUGH 16 Enrol Now At The Huron Summer Hockey School HURON PARK ARENA 4 SESSIONS July 17 to July 22 July 23 to July 29 July 30 to Aug. 5 Aug. 6 td Aug. 12 Application Forms Available At Huron Park Arena or from Your Local Minor Hockey Assoc. or write to: HURON HOCKEY SCHOOL P.O. I now have become aware of the great amount of time that Ron Bogart has taken from his personal and family life to coach a Minor hockey team, and of the organization that has to go into setting up games and the reports that are made after each game, not to mention his out of pocket expenses that are made to transport the boys to and from the out of town games. The at- tributes that make a good coach, that gains the respect of every boy are found in coach Bogart, As the parent of a boy who trained under Ron Bogart and for all the other parents who might have wished to write this letter, I express our appreciation to a fine coach who has performed and used his skills beyond the call of duty. Thanks Ron, We think you and all the other coaches, managers and executive workers of the Exeter Minor Hockey Association are great.
