A LUCKY PUCK WINNER — The first big winner in the IGA lucky puck contest was Lucan Bank of Montreal manager A. M. T-A photo CGIT group plan garden As well as the talent show the following attractions are being featured: Saturday afternoon an English and Western Horse with $1000.00 worth of prize money; Saturday evening, two shows starring Gordie Tapp, one of the stars of A.B,C,'s Hee Haw, assisted by Al Cherny who is seen locally on the Tommy Hunter Show. Sunday evening, Earl Heywood of CK,N,X• will have two shows. Last year's Irish Pub which was very successful will have continuous Irish entertainment. A new feature of the fair this year is an adult Midway. Once again the Lions will provide a group of kiddies rides which will be free. Lucan Fair "72" will be held August the 18th, 19th, and 20th, and will feature a talent show on Friday August 18th at eight p.m, A talent run-off will take place May 26, and the winners will perform on opening night. The Master of Ceremonies for both the talent shows and opening ceremonies will be "Big Al" from CKCO -T.V. in Kitchener. Last year's ;contest attracted con- testants from many parts of Western Ontario. Any one wishing. to enter the contest can obtain details from Mrs. Clarence Hardy in Lucan, who is in charge of the event. From bulletins received it appears our comrades of Windsor are working hard to make this the best one ever, Incidentally, the whole affair will be conducted under one roof-The Holiday Inn, The date- April 15 and 16. Joanne Hodgins, Ruth Shea, Janice Kestle, Karen Mason, all helped in the leading of a sing song. Acting president, Debbie Hodgins, opened the business with the group repeating the "purpose" followed by the singing of the C.G.I.T, hymn. All reports were read, the treasurer presented each girl with a letter from the Dr. Graham Homes announcing the T.V. showing of the children's homes, March 12. Anne Ried and Cathy Hearn then gave a short worship program, followed by the in- termediate B, group drama on the Prodigal Son. Mr. & Mrs. Robert Brunner and family, Windsor, were weekend guests of Mr. & Mrs. Herman Langford. Mr. & Mrs. Harold Corbett have returned home from a holiday in Florida. Mr. & Mrs. William Darling and Holly and Mrs. E, Darling were Sunday visitors with Mr. & DINING OUT IS A PLEASURE Sermon on Irish situation Pentecosta l The third quarterly session of the Western District Ontario Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Canada convened March 11, at the Lucan Revival Centre. Several visitors from Toronto were present. Rev. G.H, and Mrs. Nunn opened the devotional period with a duet. Rev, W. Loader of Kit- chener delivered the devotional. Reports of the progress of the churches were given by the pastors and delegates. The report of the conference superintendent,Rev. G.H. Nunn, was given at the close of the session. He reported on New developments in the conference and told of extension plans for new churches. Lunch was provided by the Women's Auxiliary in the basement. A Youth Rally was held in the afternoon with Rev. Now I'll tell you — only kiddin', ladies — anyway on Friday, March 10, the ladies Auxiliary to Branch 540 played host to tl-e zone ladies auxiliary euchre playdowns. There was a real fine turnout of ladies from throughout the Zone with the final result being the ladies of the Melbourne Legion auxiliary emerging as the winners and taking the zone trophy with them. The coaches of the Legion Branch 540 sponsored hockey reports our pee wee team are the "D" Champs in the Lucan arena tournament and are entered in the Young Canadian Tournament at Goderich and are still playing in the Shamrock League Playoffs round robin with Exeter and Lambeth. Our Bantams lost out, however they will be playing in the Georgetown Tournament star- ting March 21. Our. Midgets are in the Shamrock playoffs with Exeter and Huron Park. In the round robin they have already won two games and are entered in the Wingham tournament. To see our Legion sponsored teams in action all that is necessary is to drop in to the Lucan Arena any Friday night. Why not support these lads with your attendance? Don't forget folks, the date of our annual hockey dance will be April 22 with Claire Stanley doing the honours. Be sure to keep this date open. Another important date to remember is May 12. This is the date of our annual father and son banquet and presentation of hockey awards. Don't forget, Dad! This is a night out for you and junior! While on Sports, Branch 540 extends congratulations to the Lucan Ilderton Jets on their fine record and for the great publicity they are giving the "Best Ole Town." All we can say is "Go, Jets, Go!" By the way, if you are in- terested in attending our Annual St. Pat's Dance — Smilin Carl advises there are still some Sunday, the Rev. G.A. Anderson D.F.C. of the Parish of Hensall and Exeter, gave a sermon on the Irish situation. He . said we get a distorted view from the news release. In the course of his sermon, in which he traced Irish history back almost 500 years, he said there has been a conflict of interest. His view was that much of the present situation is the result of misunderstanding, jealousy and bigotry on the part of a few ex- treme Irish Nationalists who have made the moderate people join in the burning, looting, bombing and killing that is presently taking place in Ulster. Next Sunday is Passion Sunday and Rev, R.A. Carson will preach on the theme 'True Unity'. There has been a serious outbreak of flu in the McCormick Home.Mrs. Alma Price was one of the recent victims, but is feeling better. Mr. & Mrs. T. Emery visited with Mrs. Emery's sister, Mrs. Kish, London, Sunday, Mrs. Kish recently returned home from the hospital. The seventh meeting of the Lucan 4-H girls was held at Karen Hodgson's place. Members are Ron Squire, Elmer Summers and Dean Gibson. The penalty and interest rate on tax arrears was set at one per cent per month until arrears are paid. Sunshiners plan St. Patrick's party The regular meeting of the Sunshine Club met Thursday p.m. at the Masonic Hall Lucan with 17 members present. Progressive euchre was arranged by the social canvener Mrs. T. Emery Sr. The winners of the game were; Mrs. Joe Carter for ladies high score; Benny Kelly, men's high; Mrs. Kathleen Neil, lone hands and Mrs. Evan Hodgins lone hands for men, playing a man's card; low ladies, Mrs. H. Bond Sr., men's low, George 11aeCallum, Mrs. H. Bond presided and a St. Patricks Day party iS being planned for next. week, Lunch was served, provided by Mrs. Wm. Frost and Mrs. Gladys Atkinson. Seven tables play Orangemen cards The Orangemeris euchre this week entertained seven tables for cards. The ladies high was won by Susanne Leckie; ladies lone, Kathleen Neil; mens high, Danny Leckie; lone hands, Lawrence Beckett. The box of groceries was won by Kathleen Neil. The evening came to a close with a hot cup of tea. The next euchre will be in two weeks, Health conference Thursday, at ,Grariton United Church an immunization clinic will be conducted. Pre-natal classes Pre-natal classes will be conducted at St. Patricks school, Biddulph March 20, with Miss Margaret Smith teaching.
