TOWNSHIP OF STEPHEN
TENDERS FOR Na way he'd travel
charter flight again
By MANUEL CURTS
GREENWAY
"No Way", These were the
words of Hons Harms, manager
of the Haig Farms near here,
when asked if he would consider
travelling by chartered airways
again,
Mr. Harms was guest speaker
at the Berean Bible Class
meeting held at the home of
Evelyn and Manuel Curts last
Tuesday evening. Mr. Harms,
accompanied by his wife and
children, Brian and Tracy, have
recently returned from Germany
after visiting family and friends
there, for a month.
Due to foggy weather con-
ditions on both sides of the
Atlantic it took them four days
instead of fourteen hours to reach
their destination. "When
travelling by air from one
country to another it is always
best to fly commercial airlines to
experience the best possible
service especially when un-
foreseen circumstances arise."
Referring to conditions in
Germany he said farmers are
enjoying prosperity, "You don't
have the spread between
producer and consumer prices,
that you have here,"
When asked why so many
Europeans are coming to
Canada, he replied "They are
not. They are going back.
He said, "there is no highway
speed limits in Germany, and,
boy, do they travel, but where
there is a 30 or 40 miles per hour
zone, you obey them.
"Germany is very thickly
populated in comparison to
Canada and there is no unem-
ployment. When they work they
work, but they know how to
relax."
Mrs. Paul Eagleson, president
of the Class, thanked the speaker,
Manuel Curts led the worship
service and quoted from ex-
periences in the life of St. Paul, to
prove that many of the answers
which we are seeking today, in
the realm of prison reform, the
generation gap, the credibility of
miracles, and the role of the
church towards China, as its
doors are beginning to open, are
found in the New Testament if we
look for them
munity Centre, Saturday
evening,
Mr. & Mrs. Carl Pollock and
family of London were Sunday
dinner guests with Mr. & Mrs.
Milton Pollock. The latter have
just returned from Florida.
Morley Eagleson of Waterloo,
and Bob Clarke of London spent
the weekend at their respective
homes here.
Mr. & Mrs. Ken Smithers of
London visited with Evelyn and
Manuel Curts on Sunday evening.
Mr. & Mrs. Hughie Larkin, Jr.
of Windsor spent the weekend
with their grandmother Mrs.
Grace Stewardson and other
relatives here.

Variety supper
Last Friday evening a variety
supper and program was held in
the United Church under the
auspices of the UCW.
Mrs. Harold Brophey was
chairlady for a program of local
talent which included piano solos
by Robin Turner and Judy
Lagerwerf; steel guitar selec-
tions by John Smithers; Evelyn
Curts on the Hammond organ,
and two sacred numbers by the
junior choir.
Jacob Lagerwerf delighted the
audience by proving what a
year's perseverance of practice
on an old violin can accomplish.
Dawson Woodburn showed
pictures of his visit to the
Scandinavian countries and to
London, England. The farmers
present were interested to know
that only 4 percent of the country
of Norway, and 8 percent of
Sweden is agricultural land,
Net proceeds for the evening
amounted to $125.
