WOAA CHAMPIONS — The Grand Bend Bantams last week won the WOAA Bantam "D"
Championship, when they eliminated Belgrave in two straight games. They will now advance into the

Jets move three games up
in first playoff round

Novice play-offs are all ties at
one win each as Vancouver
defeated Boston 9 to 2 and
Montreal downed New York 4-2.
This Saturday will see the two
winning teams go into the final
round for the league cham-
pionship, First game of the finals
will he on Saturday March 25,
Boston absorbed their greatest
defeat of the season at the hands
• of Vancouver in the second game

CLANDEBOYE
The Clandeboye 4-H Club "The
Knit Knackers" held their fifth
meeting at the home of their
leader, Mrs. Harold Hardy, with
• seven girls present.
Mrs. Hardy showed the girls
the proper way of inserting a
zipper. The girls made samples
of mitred corners for their club
book.
The fifth meeting of Clan-
deboye No. 2 4-H club was held at
• the home of their leader, Mrs.
Clare Paton, with five girls at-
tending.
The girls discussed their plans
for achievement day and shor-
tened their name to "Sporty
Spinsters".
Modeling was practiced for
Achievement Day and the girls
worked on their record books.

The March meeting of the
Clandeboye United Church.
Women was held March 7, at the
home of Mrs. Lorne Derbeshire.
• Mrs. Alex MacIntosh presided
with nine members present, Mrs,
Dave Kestle was in charge of
devotions.
Groups were picked to plan the
"Ham & Turkey Supper," to be
held March 29.
The new building at the back
was discussed also.

The service of evening prayer
will be held in St. Jame s Church
March 19th at 12:30 p.m.
The Anglican Church Women
will meet March 30 in the home of

reading is from St. Luke Chapter
16. Mrs. Allan Hill will be in

to be the hero of the game as he
robbed Boston time after time
with some great goal tending.
Not to be outdone was Danny
Bell as he scored six goals his
greatest goal production of the
season. David Atthill added two
and Danny Preszcator one,
Steven Pierce and Dave Bogart
each scored a goal for Boston.
Montreal defeated New York
by a score of 4 to 2 in the second
game of their play-off. Brian
Mercer had the "hat-trick" with
a single goal by Phillip McLeod
for Montreal. Doug Brooks and
Preston Dearing each scored a
goal for New York.
Baracudas defeated Mustangs
4-1 to take a one game lead in
their play-off series. Perry
Pooley, Steve Baynham, Steve
Johns and Craig Alexander each
scored a goal for Baracudas.
The lone goal fro Mustangs was
scored by Brian Clarke.
Bruins whitewashed the Black
Hawks by a score of 7-0. Randy
Parsons was at his best to come
up with a five goal performance
with the two other goals scored
by Darrell Preszcator.
The novice Broncos play
Petrolia in the O.M.I-I.A. finals
with the first game there on
Saturday, Because this will take
players from the novice
houseleague we will not count
this Saturday games as play-offs.
Instead the two play-off games
will be played on Tuesday
morning starting at 9:30 with
Montreal & New York the first
game. Boston & Vancouver the
second game.
We will have public skating
Saturday from 8 to 10, Sunday 2 to
4 and Wednesday 2 to 4.
Figure skating will start at 2:30
next Tuesday instead of 4 o'clock.
The Pee Wees playHespeler in
Goderich Tuesday at 8:10 a.m.
On Thursday the 23rd we have a
bantam and midget hockey
tournament with 13 games to be
played starting at 8 a.m. and
finishing at 9 p.m. If you would
like to see some of the games
come to the arena next Thursday
there is no admission charge. The
Exeter team plays their first
game from 9 to 10 a.m. against
Kincardine. So come and cheer
them on,

The third period of Friday's
opening game was enlivened a bit
with a couple of sessions of
fisticuffs.
The first battle at 14.21 saw Don
Urbshott of the Jets and visitor
Alan Coduiy going off together
for five minute sentences,
Less than two minutes later,
John Hocking of the Easy Movers
and Bill Dunnell of the Jets
earned major penalties while
Pete Loveless was waved off on
a misconduct call.
As in the first game of the
series, the first period was close
and then the Jets pulled away.
Pete Loveless and Jack Nairn
tallied in the opening session for
the Jets while Mike Levan replied
for Point Edward.
The second, period was all
Lucan-Ilderton with Dick
Doughty, Doug Galloway and
Jacques Cousineau hitting the
mark,
In the third period, Dick
Doughty counted twice to raise
his game scoring total to three,
Pete Loveless notched his second
of the night and Terry Bourne
and Barry Baynham scored one
goal each,
Bank Boys in
Rec loop final
The Bank Boys downed the
Vikings 8-4 Thursday night to
move into the final round of the
Exeter and district Rec hockey
league.
In the other half of the semi-
finals, Newby Tire edged the
Juveniles 8-6 to even their series
at a game apiece. The third and
deciding game will be played
tonight, Thursday at eight
o'clock,
Fred Wells scored two goals to
pace the winning attack for the
Bank Boys. Checking in with one
goal each were Louis Mitchell,
Bill Farquhar, Pete Lawson,
Chuck Becker, George Bruneau
and Don Campbell.
Jim O'Toole was best for the
Vikings with a two goal effort
while Pete Maas and Randy
Tiernan tallied singles.
Ron Broderick's three goal
performance led the Newby will
over the Juveniles. Mike Cush-
man was next in . line with two
goals while Doug McBride, Craig
Davidson and Jim Dingwell
scored one goal each.
Leading the Juveniles with a
hat trick was Dennis Doidge.
Rick McDonald scored a pair of
markers and Jim McDonald
added a lone counter.
Baynham's score came on neat
three-way passing play with
Doug Galloway and Steve
Proctor, Baynham finished off
the effort with a nice move to pull
the goalie out of position and
deposit the puck into the net.
Another good period
Tuesday's 9 - 4 win at Huron
Park was again accomplished on
a scoring outburst by the Jets in
the third period with five goals.
The Jets moved ahead 3 - 1 in
the first period on goals by
Jacques Cousineau, Steve
Proctor and Jamie Robb while
Ted Landon replied for Point
Edward.
In the second period, the
scoring was reversed with
Landon and John Hocking
counting for Point Edward and
Cousineau notching the only
Lucan-Ilderton goal.
The third period scoring for the
Jets was taken care of by five
different players. Jacques
Cousineau scored once to com-
plete his hat trick performance.
The other goals were fired by
'Larry Willert, Bob Knack, Jack
'Nairn and Barry Baynham.
Landon scored the final Point
Edward goal to give him a three
goal night.

The Lucan-Ilderton Jets scored
three wins by large scores over
the Point Edward Easy Movers
during the week to take a
stranglehold on the best-of-seven
Ontario Hockey Association
Intermediate "B" first playoff
round.
The Jets scored a 10-4 decision
in the opening game at Huron
Park, Friday night, won 13-2 in
Point Edward Sunday afternoon
and won again on home ice
Tuesday night by a X2-4 count,
The fourth game of the series is
being played in Point Edward
tonight, Thursday. Point Edward
won the flip of the coin and will
get the fifth game if necessary.
The winner of this series will
meet either Ingersoll or Simcoe
in the next round.
Big third period
In Point Edward, Sunday, the
Jets scored no less than ten times
in the third period to win going
away.
The first period ended in a 1-1
tie with Dick Doughty scoring for
the Jets and Ted Landon replying
for the Point Edward club.
Two goals were notched in the
second period, both by the Jets.
Triggering the successful shots
Pete Loveless and Bob Knack.
The Jets pulled out their heavy
artillery in the final frame and
bombarded the Point Edward
net. Pete Loveless, Jack Nairn
and Terry Bourne each scored on
two occasions in the free scoring
