Well done, fellows
Our congratulations go out to the members of the
Exeter curling club who turned in fine performances at
the weekend Tartan curling bonspiel at the Highland
club in London.
Jim Hewitt of the local curling club led his rink to
the final round losing the championship game by a close
6-4 count to Bob Anderson of the host Highland club.
The Hewitt foursome eliminated some top notch
competition on their way to the finals. Falling to the
Exeter curlers were Bob Johnston of Highland, the
Ostrander rink of Tillsonburg, Jim Fleet of Sarnia and
Hank Bysinski of London.
Completing the Hewitt rink were fellow Exeter
curling club members Jerry Finnen, Jerry Smith and
Neil Hemmingway.
Another Exeter rink went to the finals of the
second event of the three-day bonspiel. Pres Levier was
the skip along with Doug Parsons, Gord McTavish and
Gerry Prout.
One of the biggest events at the Exeter curling
club this year will be held here Saturday. It's the first
Exeter men's invitational bonspiel with top notch
curlers from Western Ontario in attendance.
In action from London will be rinks skipped by
Doug Grant, Bill Young and Kai Stub.
The following local businesses and curling enthu-
siasts will be assisting the club in operation of the
bonspiel: Bank of Nova Scotia, Mather's Garage,
Conklin Lumber, The Derby Dip and Chuckwagon, C.A.
McDowell, Seldon Fuels, Don Taylor Motors, Dashwood
Industries, John Burke Insurance, Gerald Prout, Jack
Urquhart and Lee Webber.
Win for former Seaforth star
For the third time since he took over as hockey
coach at Lake Superior State College in Northern
Michigan, Ron Mason has guided his club to a college
championship.
Mason, a former junior star at Seaforth assumed
the coaching duties of the Lakers in 1967-68. Jim
Hayter, formerly of Dashwood and now of Goderich
was a member of the Lake Superior College team last
year.
