Sinclair visited with Mrs. Ernest Rachar in St, Joseph's hospital Sunday p.m. going out later to visit with their son and family who live in London. The March of Dimes netted $374,24 this year well over the amount of last year, Mrs. Earl Younge received word this week of the death of her brother Roy Lewis in Pheonix, Arizona. She and her sister Mrs. Edna Burnett are leaving Friday to visit his son, George Lewis in San Diego, California, Clarence Lewis of Francis St, Lucan is also a brother. Mrs. Catherine Fischer is spending a few days with her daughter's family, the Thompsons of London. Mrs. Margaret Hastings and Johnfisited with Mrs. Hasting's parents Sunday. Mrs. Emery visited with her sister, Mrs Anne Kish in Victoria Hospital who is recovering from eye surgery. Health conference The Granton United Church is holding a health conference March 16. Immunization in- cluding red measles will be done. Pre school children welcome, A doctor will be in attendance. Three time winner Mr. & Mrs. T. Emery Sr. Attended the Tuesday night euchre sponsored by the Clandy- Girls, Mr. Emery winning the high score. Friday they attended the Woodham euchre and Mr. Emery again took high schore. Monday night they and three guests attended the Kirk ton euchre and once more Mr. Emery won the high score, Mrs. Emery won high score for ladies and Mrs. C. Neil won the lone hands. The regular meeting of the Lucan Lions Club was held Monday night with 20 members present. One of the topics discussed was monthly dances, Lion Leo Dewan made a motion that live bands be featured for the 1972-73 season. It was seconded by Bob Garrett and carried by a small majority. Don Leitch was named park chairman and other members on the parks committee are Jim Freeman, Paul Dykeman, Sam Taylor, Bob Stutt, Alex Younge. Nominating committee was named consisting of Gord Brookes, Bob Taylor, Jim Vounge and Jim Shipley. Lion Clare Stanley repoorted success in obtaining Big Al, of CKCO-TV for the Trade Fair. Motion was made to invite all House League hockey coaches to the next meeting. Zone chairman Gord Brookes spoke on District A, zone I, supplying a van and truck for eye testing equipment, A motion was passed that the club donate $250 to the zone for this project. By SID DALEY It is with pride that members of Branch 540 offer congratulations to the ladies of their Auxiliary for the excellence of the Ice Show which wound up another suc- cessful year of their favorite project. — The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 540 Ladies Auxiliary sponsored figure skating club. From reports received 'Mary Mary Quite Contrary How Does Your Flowers Grow' was an Extravaganza Extraordinaire. The costumes were just lovely and the kiddies literally put everything they had into the gist of the show. It was just GREAT —heartiest congratulations to everyone involved and many thanks to the good crowd that took the time to attend — we are sure you were not disappointed and felt it was an evening well spent. Mrs. Gladys Reilly Auxiliary preSident and ,members of her committee have been in- terviewed and have assured that plans are under way to make the 1973 Ice Show even bigger and better — and that will be difficult to do, Ah Ha, Branch 540 does it again and this time came home with the bacon and The Zone A5 cham- pionship plus the honor of hosting the 1973 Zone A5 Cribbage Play Downs by virtue of their win at Mount Brydges Canadian Legion, Saturday. Yes sir, Comrade sports officer Gord Elson took two cribbage teams. to compete and both won a berth in the District A playdowns to be held at Strathroy legion later this month. Members of the first place team were Comrades Keith Dickson, Len Fisher, Harvey Hillman and Sid Daley — Third place team members were Comrades McGregor, Walker, Ireland and Rummell — Good show, Comrades and best of luck and good cards at Strathroy. Door prizes-spot dances and to wind up the gala affair what else but good old home cooked Irish Stew — see yu there, Tuesday night mixed sports will wind up Tuesday March 14 with competition really keen, here are the latest standings — euchre, first place - The Len Fisher's; second, the Larry Cronyns ; cribbage, tied for first place - The Len Fishers and Gord Elson, second - Shirley Stuckless and Sid Daley; darts, first - The Gord Elsons , tied for second - The Fishers and McIntyre's ; shuffle board - Shirley Stuckless and Geo. Juergins, tied for second - the Hirtzel's, Carl & Helen and the Cronyn's. The grand finale of course will be the presentation banquet and dance, the date of which will be announced at a later date. As is to be expected of Branch 540, fine entertainment is sup- plied every Saturday night for your enjoyment, why not drop in to the Sea Land and Air Lounge, for a sociable hour, for that matter why wait until Saturday, come on over anytime for good Comradeship. Wednesday, the Anglican Churchwomen met in the home of Mrs. Gladys Atkinson, Rev. R. Carson led the Bible study. Mrs. Gladys Roberts read articles concerning Christ and the Church. Mrs. J. Murdy led in a game. A delicious lunch was served by Blanche Haskett and Maude Hodgins, March 12 is the 4th Sunday in Lent. Holy Communion will be celebrated at 8:00 a.m. The Anglican Youth Movament will breakfast afterward. At the 11:00 a.m. Service of Morning Prayer, the preacher will be the Rev. G. Anderson D.F.C. of Exeter. The Lucan Clandeboye Explorers began with three groups: red stars saying memory work for stars; blue group played charades, getting ready for idea of communicating without words; and Mrs. Froats reviewed with gold star girls their com- positions on Being an Explorer for three years to earn their last star. A film strip, was enjoyed "Glory of Africa," a conversation between a grandfather and grandson telling of the natural beauties, culture of music and art. Mrs. Sawdon told about schools in Africa. Parts of a scrap book made by Marylynne Shipway for her first gold star, on schools and the many languages of African people were read. Knowing that many people in Africa can't read the girls divided into groups and drew pictures to communicate to these people. These methods were: (1) a sign about a school rule; (2) a sign to tell adults something; (3) a sign you would find in Africa but not in Canada, example (a) school full, no more children can come (b) school closed - no teacher this ypar. The offering taken would buy one and one quarter Bibles for Africa. Next expedition March 3 begins 6:45 p.m. with singing and Easter program. Pentecostal A new program was launched at the Pentecostal Sunday School with S.S. personnel rotating. to enable teachers to become better equipped, Sunday morning worship began with Bill Cochrane playing the French horn and Robert Holland leading the singing. During his sermon, Pastor Rees spoke on the freedom Jesus gives us. He said Jesus frees us from sin, strife, hatred, deceit and from ourselves. Anyone interested please call 439-8541 after 5 p.m. United The Lucan United Church held their usual Sunday service with the Rev. W. C. Tupling taking the service, Robert Blackwell, at the organ, played Prelude Adagio by Franck. The youth choir led the singing. Mr. Tupling's sermon was entitled "Death and Resurrec- tion, " Mrs. Fred Tuke from Colborne St. United, London, Mrs. Betty Hall, Wellington United, Brant- ford; Mr. & Mrs. Douglas ,Sawdon, Bradford United Church, were received into the membership. C.G.I.T. The Lucan and Clandeboye C.G.I.T. held their meeting recently at the Lucan United Church in the form of a fun night, starting with a pot luck supper. Each girl wore something African, After supper a written questionnaire was done by the girls, this to be sent to the C.G.I.T. Council and also to the Middlesex Youth Ministry. The senior girls had to leave for examination study, while the remaining girls participated in games, drama, rehearsal, and a sing song. The evening fun was brought to a close by the singing of taps. Family Counselling The United Church, Lucan, announces that space in their building has been provided for the extension of family coun- selling from the Family and Children's Services of London and Middlesex. This is to provide service for Lucan and area residents. Formerly the service had been available mainly at the London office. Mrs. Jean E, Moore, a social worker with the agency has been appointed to provide this service. Families or persons wishing to see Mrs. Moore can drop in at the church Wednesday afternoon or call 434-0611. What's Doing? Lenten series has started The ?first of the series now known as "Learning for Lent" was held in Lucan United on Wednesday morning with a representative attendance from both Lucan .and Clandeboye communities. There were forty adults registered and 30 pre- school children. Staffing the two nur- series were Mrs, D. Lankin, Mrs. R. Patterson, Mrs. R. Engel and Mrs. Wm, Froats, Mrs. Russell Thompson ably taught the first of four sessions for cathedral glass candles which proved very popular. Mrs. J. Lockyer and Mrs, A. E. Reilly had help from their group learning to put the quilt in frames, mark and quilt. Mrs. W. C. Tupling led another group who are making topiary trees, At the same time Mrs. J. S. Radcliffe demonstrated and explained the art of "Good Grooming." These crafts will be continuing each week and March 15 guest leader from O.P.P. will explain "Mini Car Magic" to those not learning crafts. After visiting with friends and light refreshments, served by Mrs. Bill Smith and Mrs. S. McCallum, the whole group took part in discussion conducted by Rev. W. C. Tupling, beginning the study on "Opposition to Jesus." The question was the relationship if any, between sickness and sin, and the difference in attitude between Jesus and the Pharisees, The group was divided into smaller groups for discussion and the findings presented. The Benediction by Mr. Tupling brought the morning's activity to a close, Everyone is welcome to come and bring friends.
