ready for OHA playoffs
The Lucan-Ilderton Jets en-
joyed a very successful road trip
to Erie, Pennsylvania over the
weekend, The Jets turned in two

Sunday afternoon and will be
back at the Huron Park arena,
Tuesday night again at 8,15. The
fourth game is slated for Point
Edward on Thursday, March 16
at eight o'clock.
Both games south of the border
produced plenty of fast, exciting
action with penalties being the
exception rather than the rule.
Friday's game produced only
six penalties with the only in-
fraction in the Saturday tilt being
a tripping call against Terry
Bourne of the Jets.
The first period Friday was
scoreless and then the Jets went

in the second period with playing
coach Jack Nairn's goal com-

shot after Harry Dunn had fallen
on the puck in the Erie goal
crease,
Other goal getters for the Jets
in the second were Pete Loveless,
Jamie Robb and Nairn's first of
two successful shots.
Merle Falk scored twice for the
Lions in the third period, both on
power plays to make the final
score 4-3,

an excellent performance in the
Jets goal in the Saturday night
contest as the Erie club could
I
only put the puck past him on one
occasion early in the second
period.
The Jets moved ahead 2-0 in the
first period on goals by Doug
Galloway and Jacques. Cousineuu
and were never headed in posting
the 5-1 victory.
Paul Gamsby was on the firing
end of the only goal for the home
team.
The third Lucan-Ilderton goal
came on a three-way passing
play. Larry Willert started the
play by hitting Terry Bourne with
a long pass near centre, Bourne
in turn hit Jamie Robb with a
pass at the blue-line and the
speedy centre broke in to deke
the goalie and put the puck into

Loveless wound up the scoring

In Novice play-offs New York
took a one game lead in their two-
of-three series by defeating
Montreal 3 to 2. This was a close
game all the way with the lead
changing several times.
Preston Dearing was the big
gun for New York with two goals
and the single was added by Doug
%Brooks. Montreal scorers were
Larry Dawson and Phillip
McLeod.
The second game was Boston
all the way with a score of 6-2
over Vancouver. Dave Bogart
was the hero for Boston with four
goals and singles by Jeff Fuller
and Greg Skinner. Dave Bell and
Dan Preszca tor were the
marksmen for Vancouver.
The pee wee play-off had to be
cancelled last Saturday because
of a shortage of players The all-
stars were entered at the Lucan
pee wee tournament and which
by the way they won. So this
Saturday will be the first game of
the play-offs.
This year could be the year of
the under-dog. So far this year in
play-off the last place team or
near last team has done well in
play-off.
New York the last place novice
team won their first game at the
play-offs. The last place team in
the Rec league leading a top club
in play-offs. A second last club in
the Ausable League is currently
two games up in play-offs, The
bottom club in the Ausable is
even-steven with the second
-place club. So as I said before you
can never tell in playoffs.
In a rousing game of hockey at
Huron Park arena the Exeter
Rec league all-stars defeated the
Centralia College Saints 9-3, All
proceeds from this game will go
to Bunny Bundle although the
weather was bad a few fans
were on hand for the game. A
return game in Exeter is planned
within the next few weeks,
The Hawks are doing well and
at time of writing lead the series
with Belmont three to nothing.
The largest crowd of the season,
958 was on hand for Sundays
