HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Exeter Times-Advocate, 1972-03-09, Page 5Stewart and Jane, Mr, & Mrs. Jim Van Neck of Blenheim, Mr. & Mrs. Terry North, Teresa, Tammy and Trevor of Fingal visited on the weekend with Mr. Stewart McQueen and Mr. & Mrs. Harry Snell, Mr. & Mrs. Bill Shaddick of London visited over the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. George Parker, United Church Sunday morning, four mem- bers from other churches were welcomed into the fellowship of Hensall United Church. They were Mrs. Cliff Britton, Mrs. Don Beck, Brian Beck and Michael Beck. Rev. Don Beck chose for his communion meditation "The Marks of Christ". The choir sang the anthem "No one understands like Jesus." Exeter, for the past three weeks was transferred to Victoria Hospital, London, this week, Andrew Orr who was a patient in SouthHuron Hospital, Exeter, returned to his home this week. Mr, & Mrs. Bill Knights, COC make African books The C.O.C. of the Carmel Presbyterian Church held their February meeting Sunday morning. The meeting was opened with the C.O.C. motto. Seven members answered the roll call by naming their favourite winter sport. The of- fering was taken by Donna Taylor, and the prayer given by Beatrice Thompson. The study on Africa was con- tinued, using food and education as the subject for this month. Everyone started making booklets, which included a map of Africa and a flag of Nigeria. United Church activities Unit IV of Hensall United Church held their regular monthly meeting Thursday af- ternoon at the church. There were 16 members present and one visitor. Mrs. J. McAllister presided, and opened the meeting with a thought on "the Meaning of Lent", followed by prayer. All enjoyed a solo by Mrs. Hess, and a duet by Mrs. C, Britton and Mrs. E, Luther. The study on Africa, based on racial tensions and conditions in Angola, was given by Mrs. J, Flynn. Mrs. McAllister gave the devotional entitled "The Reluctant Profit". A report of the Presbyterial held in Stratford was given by those who attended. It was also mentioned that the Spring Thaw Dinner will be some time in April, the date to be announced later. Adult fellowship A box-social highlighted the March get-together of the Adult Fellowship Group of Hensall United Church Saturday evening. After a fun filled session of games, the beautifully decorated boxes were capably auctioned off by Dave Kyle. The money received will be given towards the Easter Appeal. It was decided that for the April 8 gathering, the group would go to Exeter High School to see the performance "Patience" to be put on by the liuronia Male Choir, Amber lodge plays euchre Mrs. Olga Chipchase, Noble Grand, presided for the meeting of Amber Rebekah Lodge Wednesday evening assisted by Vice Grand Mrs. Dorothy Beaton. Mrs. Alice Ferg reported for the Finance Committee. An invitation to visit Thamesford Rebekah Lodge was accepted, members to travel by bus with Pride of Huron Lodge Exeter. It was announced by D,D.P. Mrs. Ruby Bell the district meeting would by held April 12 in Amber Lodge. Arrangements were made to take the travelling gavel to Seaforth March 27 if that date is suitable to all concerned, Following the meeting members and guests played euchre, Ladies' high prize was won by Mrs. Elizabeth Riley; ladies' consolation prize, Mrs. Grace Thompson; gent's high prize, Cecil Pepper; lone hands Mrs, Glenn Bell, 'rickets on a draw won by Mrs. Dorothy Corbett and Mrs. Dorothy Beaton. W.D. Jarvis conducted service in Carmel Presbyterian Church Sunday. The sermon was The Lord's Prayer. Members of the session assisted the choir in the service of song. Mr, & Mrs. Robert Middleton and son Robbie of Wingham were recent visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Robert Middleton and Mr. & Mrs. Jack Simmons. Charles Mickle of Hamilton entertained the family to a belated birthday dinner of his father, Laird Mickle, at the Dominion Hotel, Zurich, Saturday evening. All the family were present for the occasion, Later in the evening they gathered at their parents' home for a family get-together. Jack Corbett who has been a patient in South Huron Hospital, KINSMEN HELP PARKS BOARD — Some of the proceeds from the Hensall Kinsmen fiddlers contest have been donated to the Hensall Parks Board to further renovations at the park pavilion. Council did agree to grant the board immediate funds of $1918.00, which is 25 percent of the cost of the new roof on the arena. This amount will be deducted from the final budget figure, The road budget was presented for the amount of $13,500, This is subject to the approval of the IVIinister of Transport and Communications. A new lease from the CNR for the parking area near the tracks was accepted. The rental has been increased from $25.00 to $60.00. There was much discussion about the suitablity of the septic tank and septic tile bed for the proposed building on the Taylor property. This matter was held over until a later meeting. It was announced that Hen- sail's share of funds for the Hayfield and Ausable Con- servation Authority was $1,825.31, In other business E.R. Davis was appointed weed inspector and a permit was granted to Howie Wright for renovations to his house. Bills and accounts were paid in the amount of $6,549.00. A deputation from the Recreation and Parks Board consisting of Bob Baker and George Parker attended the Hensall council meeting, Monday night, and presented their budget of $12,520.00 for 1972. Our photocopier can reproduce your documents and book pages. While you wait. Wesley G. Robinson Wesley G. Robinson passed away in Hensall March 1, 1972, in his 74th year. He was born on November 11, 1898, and resided in London until 18 years ago when he came to Hensall to live with his daughter, Mrs. Jim (Jean) Taylor. He was the husband of the late Gladys Forsyth, and father of Cliff, Sarnia, Keith, Detroit; Margaret Louise MacDonald, Florida; Mrs. Jim (Jean) Taylor, Hensall. Also surviving is one brother, Wilton D. Robinson, London; fourteen grandchildren, and one great grandson. Bonthr on Funeral Chapel, Hensall, conducted the service Friday, with Rev. Don Beck officiating. Bell Harold Stephen Albert Bell, 80, Beattie Ave., London passed away at Victoria Hospital March 6,1972 in his 56th year. He was the husband of Margery (Parkinson) Bell, father of Miss Helen Bell at home. He was the only son of the late Mr, & Mrs. Albert Bell of Hensall. Funeral will be March 9 at Needham Memorial Chapel, 520 Dundas St., London. Rev. Douglas A. Facey of Trinity United Church will of- ficiate assisted by Rev, Duncan McTavish. The meeting opened with the 4-11 pledge, Sharon Finlayson was elected secretary. The roll call • was, "Show your fabric and pattern and state why you chose them". The hand out sheets were given, the French seam and flat felled seam were demonstrated. Work was done on the garments. The fourth meeting of the club was held at the home of Lynn Alderson.
