tine African Night,Games were

Beverly Huffman reported on
an African book she had read to
earn her second blue star.
Janet Goddard drew a costume
of Ghana and told about it.

Mrs. Kraul read of a little African
girl, Branca.
Members sat around a glowing
camp fire. After repeating an
African grace several girls
served an African lunch of fruit,
pop corn, and cereal nuts. Sandra
Avery read a prayer concluding
the meal,
Mrs, Fronts discussed with
gold star girls, their star
requirements of writing "What it
means to be an Explorer for three
years.
Euchre played
by Sunshiners
At the meeting of the Sunshine
club with Mrs. H. Bond, Sr.
presiding Progressive euchre
was played with 18 members
present.
Ben Kelly and Mrs, C. Rogers
got high scores, Alonzo Phillips
and Mrs. Kathleen Neil won lone
hands. Low prizes were awarded
to Clarence Rogers and Mrs. Les
McGuffin.
Lunch was provided by Mrs.
Alonzo Phillips and Mrs. Burns
Smith.
Medway girls
in WOSSA finals
Medway High School
basketball teams, midget, senior
and junior were all victorious in
their games with Dorchester
Thursday.
The girls volleyball team
defeated Strathroy to win a
second spot in the finals, They
now go to Sarnia to play in the
W.O.S.S.A, series.
A dance was held at Medway
Thursday night with the
"Abernathy Shag master" band
providing the music.
Biddulph Central School,
Lucan, and Parkhill school
played basketball Wednesday.
Education weelewill be, March 7
and 8 with open house for parents
and friends.
Mr, & Mrs. Ray Fischer were
Sunday visitors with Mrs.
Catherine Fischer, Friday, Mr, &
Mrs. Lloyd Stanlake and Debbie,
London Mrs. Gregory Brydan
and Tommie of Nova Scotia were
Mrs. Fischer's visitors.
Mrs. Margaret Hastings visited
with her mother, Mrs. T. Emery,
Sunday.
Mrs. Frances Saward, visited
with her daughter Mrs. Gillian
Phillipson, Toronto, for three
days last week. While there she
attended a concert by the Toronto
Symphony Orchestra,
Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Culbert have 4
returned from a month's
vacation in Florida, visiting the
latter's mother and brother and
his family, and also enjoyed a
visit to Disney World.

The Ladies Auxiliary of Branch
540 Royal Canadian Legion
proudly presents their figure
skating club's adaptation of
`Mary Mary Quite Contrary How
Does Your Garden Grow.'
The kiddies have been working
extremely hard all winter and
are now prepared to entertain
their parents and friends and
everyone who is interested to this
great show. The date, Wednesday
March 1, 7:30 p.m. at the Lucan
Memorial Arena.
For your added enjoyment they
also present the following: Miss
Connie Swallow second place in
junior ladies Western Ontario
sectionals 1971-72 and a Canadian
competitor 1971-72. Miss Kim
Power, Western Ontario Sec-
tional Competitor 1971-72. Sherry
and Dennis Pinner, Western
Ontario sectional junior pair
champions 1971-72 and Canadian
novice pair champions 1971-72.
We urge all and sundry to
support this very worthwhile
project with their attendance, let
us have an extra large turn out
and surprise the kiddies. I know

Here's great news, Comrades
of which we are extremely proud,
Miss Anne Revington, whom
Branch 540 sponsored and en-
tered in the Royal Canadian
Legion All-Ontario track and
field meet held in Toronto on
February 19, 1972 won the silver
medal in the Midget High Jump.

Mrs, Ida McRoberts is a
patient in Victoria Hospital,
where she is making a
satisfactory recovery following
surgery.
Mr. & Mrs. John Prince of
Oshawa and Sheila Prince of
London spent last weekend with
Mr. & Mrs, Harold Prince on the
latter's 40th wedding an-
niversary.
Mr. & Mrs. Ivan Stanley, and
Mr. & Mrs, Omar Burnett have
returned from five weeks in
Florida. They visited Disney
World, the Water Follies.
Mrs. Frank Hardy Sr. and Mr.
& Mrs. Clarence Hardy, had
Sunday dinner with Mrs. Doug
Teller, While there they visited
Mrs. John Brock at Mason Villa
Hospital who is very ill, WS,
Brock formerly of Lucan,, and
Mrs. Hardy are old friends of
many years, Mr. Brock and Mr.
Hardy were business partners in
the Hardy and Brock butcher
shop in Lucan.
Mr. & Mrs. T. Emery Sr. at-
tended the euchre at Woodham
Friday night where Mr. Emery
was winner of the lone hand they
also attended the euchre at
Kirkton, Monday night.

dies suddenly
Olive May Mitchell, formerly
Lee, died suddenly in Victoria
Hospital, London, February 19,
1972, in her 55th year.
She was the daughter of the late
Thomas and Viola Lee of Lucan,
Surviving are one son, Robert,
Scarborough, one daughter, Mrs.
James (Darlene) Moore, of
Hamilton and grandchildren,
Bradley, Brian and Bobby,
She was the sister of Harold
and George Lee of Ailsa Craig
and Mrs. Viola Carter, Clan-
deboye, Mrs. Richard Parker,
Harriston, Stanley and Cyril Lee
of London,
Funeral service was from the
Murdy Funeral Home. Entomb-
ment in St. James with burial t
4-H girls plan
trip to Capades
The fourth meeting of the
Lucan 4-H club was held
February 19, at Karen Hodgson's
home. A bus trip was organized to
the Ice Capades. All the girls of
the club congratuated a fellow
member, Denise O'Brien, on her
outstanding performance at the
speaking contests in Lucan and
Melbourne. Denise competes at
the contest in Chatham.
Anne Revington, who was
absent for this meeting, took part
in a track meet in Toronto,
sponsored by .the Legion.
District woman
dies in hospital
Ellen (Nellie) Hotson, London,
died in her 89th year, February
18, in St. Joseph's 1-hospital.
Sister of Mrs. Margaret Fink-
beiner, London and she is also
survived by several nieces and
nephews.
Service was from the Needham
Memorial Chapel, London,
Monday, with Rev, W. Scott of-
ficiating, Interment was in
Parkhill cemetery.
WI members look
at pollution problems
Lucan Women's Institute met
February 15 at the home of Mrs.
M.H. Hodgins.
President, Mrs. H. Snelgrave,
wecomed the ladies, The Mary
Stewart Collect and Institue Ode
were read in unison.
The home economics and
health convener, Mrs. Hodgins,
chose as her theme, Pollution,
roll call was answered by 13
members. One thing I can do
about the pollution problem.
The motto, and God looked
upon everything He had made
and saw that it was good was
presented by the convener.
A contest listing soaps ac-
cording to phosphate content was
won by Mrs. S. Revington.
Several interesting readings
were given and discussion
followed.
Two recommendations were
made: to have a clean up street
by street in Lucan but no action
was taken, and a discussion to
ask everyone to save their glass
to be taken by truck for recycling
to London was made. Posters will
be posted and storage will be
made at J.W. Lockyer Market
Street until a load is received.
Mrs. Snelgrove gave a report of
United
Rev, W.C. Tupling led the
congregation of the Lucan United
Church in worship Sunday,
choosing as his topic "Grace
Abounding", continuing the
series based on the book of
Romans. Mr. Blackwell, director
of music was absent and Douglas
Barr took his place. The junior
choir led the music.
The sermon asked, "What does
it mean to say that we are sin-
ners saved by Grace?" Mr.
Tupling pointed out we die to sin
in turning the central of our lives
over to Christ.
The couples club and Hi C are
co-operating in renovating and
redecorating a room for use as a
youth centre and a Sunday school
room.
Pentecostal
The Women's Auxiliary of the
Lucan Revival Centre met
Tuesday in the parsonage for
their monthly meeting. Husbands
were invited to celebrate
Valentine's Day.
Mrs. Howard Currie, president,
presided. She read from the
Pslams and gave an interesting
talk.
The program was centred
around the heart, Mrs. Joseph
Graham had a reading on Love.
Miss Ruth Frost read an article
on the beginning of Valentine's
Day. Everyone participated in a
quizz of Bible characters and
wives.
Mrs. Reese read a missionary
letter and Mrs. Currie sang a
solo. Plans were made to sell
socks as a project,
Refreshments were served by
Mrs. Frost and Mrs. Reese.
the 75th anniversary dinner held
at Toronto.
The meaning of Pennies for
Friendship was read and a
collection for this worthy project
was made.
Everyone enjoyed bargains of
'bring and buy' for 25 cents.
Lent services
get started
March 1, a series of programs
of crafts, speakers and games for
men women and children will
commence at Lucan United
Church for all area residents.
There will be an infant nursery
and a children's nursery to ac-
comodate young mothers.
The first activity will be
cathedral candles and topiary
trees. Mrs. J, Radcliffe will
speak on Good Grooming.
After coffee break, each
Wednesday, a discussion will be
led on "Opposition to Jesus".
Rev. W. Tupling will begin the
study at the first session.
Church service
Worship followed Sunday
morning school hour. Mrs. Roy
Dykeman was the pianist. Rev.
Gerald Reese spoke on 'Now is
the Accepted Time.'
The choir of small children.
sang under the leadership of Mrs.
Graham.
The evening message was
entitled 'They Overcame by the
Blood of the Lamb and the Word
of Their Testimony."
Sweet, Sweet Spirit was sung
by Violet Acres and Carol Mason.
Anglican
Sunday Rev. R.A, Carson
preached on the answer to the
question 'why have a Prayer
Book?' He said that in the prayer
book there are prayers that have
been. contributed to Christianity
throughout all ages from the
beginning to the end of life. What
is presented in the prayer book is
the 'Faith of the Church'.
Next Sunday the sermon theme
will be 'How we got the Prayer
Book
