An increase of $3,440 over 1970
is announced today by the
Canadian Bible Society's
Western Ontario District office in
London. Contributions given by
the people and churches in
Western Ontario in 1971
amounted to the highest ever
total of $100,880.78.
An appeal has been going
forward for a new building for the
Society's District offices and
Scripture Distribution Centre in
London, but this is not included in
the above figures, "It is most
gratifying to us to know that
people are supporting both the
general work and the new
building fund," said Kenneth A.
The responsibility of ad-
ministering welfare in all Huron
County municipalities was taken
over by John MacKinnon,
director of Huron County Social
Services on January 2,
Under the new system the
known method of handling
welfare is removed from the
municipal level where formerly
clerks were usually the local
welfare officers. It actually
replaces 26 local offices.
Working with Mr, MacKinnon
will be two field workers, Howard
Hackwell at Walton and Charles
Hay at Hensel Those seeking
assistance should now contact
any of these three. A personal
call, a letter or telephone call will
generally suffice.
In the event of an emergency
case, the former local welfare
officer may issue temporary
assistance, but any action taken
must have the approval of head
office at Goderich.
Mr. MacKinnon said that under
