Mrs. Elmer Hughes, London,
reports her mother Mrs. Tom
Hall, is slowly improving in St.
Joseph's Hospital.
The snowmobile rally, Sunday,
at the arena in Thedford was well
attended despite the cold
weather. The 14 mile course was
through bog land. Several entries
were from Ridgetown.
David Gotelaer made the icy
hill but Debbie Hawkins, un-
fortunately, collided with a tree.
Hugh Smith has been im-
proving land for John Melville
and Bill Hall.
Calvin Rodd spent the weekend
with, Paul Simpson of Kirkton.
Miss Jean - Copeland was
.hostess for the directors meeting
of the Kirkton Horticultural
Society Saturday afternoon.

UCW meets
at Brinsley

January meeting of the UCW
was held at the home of Mrs.
Jack Trevithick. Mrs. Norman
Lewis opened the meeting with
prayer which was followed by a
reading by Mrs. N. Lewis.
Mrs. Earl Lewis read the
scripture and Mrs. Pickering
gave two short poems.
Mrs. Howard Fenton, Mrs. E.
Lewis and Mrs, N. Lewis all gave
readings.
Mrs. George Lee was in charge
of the business. It was decided to
use the dime holiday calendar
this year to make money, and to
have a pot luck supper for the
congregational meeting January
27.

& Mrs. Lorne MacGregor of Ailsa
Craig.
Rev. W.E. Stephenson and the
session met at the home of Mr. &
Mrs. Jack Hodgson Wednesday

Joseph's Hospital.

Charles Harlton
Charles Harlton, 85, who was
born in Clandeboye and moved to
Saskatchewan in 1905, died in
Regina recently.

W.I. Visit Lodge
The Women's Institute visited
Strathmere Lodge, Strathroy,
Thursday.
Mrs. J. Paton was celebrating
a birthday and the ladies
presented her with a potted plant.
The ladies also visited Mrs. E.
Scott, Austin Dilling and Mr.
George Oliver.
St. James Anglican Church
Sunday, Rev. R. Carson
preached on 'A Declaration of
Faith' which is the title of a
section of the draft document on
Church Union. He said there was
an urgency for Church Union.
There needs to be in Canada a
rededication by clergy and laity
to the cause of church union. He
said the section dealing with the
faith is fairly acceptable to
Anglicans as it now stands. He
asked the congregation to study
the draft plans and participate in
their revision,
January 27 the Anglican
Church Women of St. James will
meet in the home of Mrs. Wilfred
Cunningham.

Mr. & Mrs. Art Hodgins were
guests on Sunday at a family
party, held at the home of Mr. &
Mrs. Wayne Hem of Zion.
The party was in honor of Mrs.
Hern's mother, Mrs. Mary
French of Whalen, who
graduated on Friday as a
Registered Nursing Assistant.
Mrs. J. Donaldson returned
home from Florida Saturday
after an enjoyable trip to Disney
Land.
Mr. & Mrs. Clare Paton visited
with their mother, Mrs. J. Pat-
ton, of the Strathmere Lodge
Strathroy.
Mr. & Mrs. Dave Kestle were
pleased on the weekend to hear
they were grandparents of a fine
grandson, Nathan, son of Mr. &
Mrs. Clare Skinner, of London.
The Huron County Trotting
Club held their winter dance at
the home of Mr. & Mrs. Earl
Morgan, Saturday night. Due to
bad weather several members
were unable to attend.
Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Carter
and family and Mrs. Isabell
Simpson visited Miss Sybil
Stephenson, Ailsa Craig, Sunday,
to celebrate Mrs. Simpson's
birthday.
Those who had tickets to the
dance at Crediton, Saturday

Zion United Church Women
held their meeting Thursday
afternoon with Mrs. Lorne Hodge
in charge assisted by Mrs. Irvin
Ratz, Mrs. Armin Schlenker,
Mrs. Lloyd Hey.
The theme was "Bethany
Home" referring to Mary and
Martha. A kitchen recipe for
living was given. Mrs. Lloyd Hey
and Mrs. Alvin Finkbeiner sang a
duet and Mrs, Doug Warren sang
a solo.
President, Mrs, Alvin Fink-
beiner, was in charge of business
meeting when the decision was
made to invite Centralia UCW to
World Day Of Prayer held the
first Friday in March,
Annual reports were given.
Honor H. Pfaff
A get together in honor of
Henry Pfaff, who recently sold
his farm on the second concession
of Stephen, was held by former
neighbors at Mr. & Mrs. Earl
Neil's home.
Progressive euchre was played
and Mr. Pfaff was presented with
a travel bag, socks, and billfold
by his friends,

standing breeder and exhibitor of
Yorkshire swine and a man
widely known in livestock circles,
For many years, he and his
son, George, operated a 960-acre
wheat farm near Belle Plaine,
Sask. Yorkshire swine from the
farm won countless awards at the
Regina Exhibition, the Toronto
Royal Winter Fair and at many
other livestock shows.
He was much in demand as a
judge of swine and beef cattle, In
1965, the Saskatchewan govern-
ment recognized his efforts on
behalf of agriculture by naming a
lake after him in the Lac La
Ronge area.
Mr. Harlton returned to
Clandeboye many times to visit
his mother and father while they
were living. His last visit to his
home town was seven years ago.
He was predeceased by his
wife, Margaret Elizabeth
Haggerty in 1955.
