basement. The meeting opened
with a poem by the president
Mrs. Gordon Schwalm.
Mrs. Harvey Hyde conducted
the Bible Study, with Mrs. Percy
Campbell reading scripture and
meditation.
Mrs. Hyde presented the study
based on the "New Generation on
Africa," the first part of the new

New Year Resolution.
Correspondence was read and
it was announced that the
Presbyterial will be held in
Goderich January 19.
Mrs. R. A. Orr read a letter
received by Mrs. Schwalm from

Unit I of Hensall U.C.W. met
Thursday afternoon with Mrs.
Audrey Christie presiding. She
opened the meeting with a poem
entitled "Another New Year for
Thee." "Portals of a New Year,"
was chosen by Mrs. Christie for
her devotional followed by the
Lords Prayer in unison.
Mrs. Howard Scane introduced
the new study book for this year
on Africa.
Unit I is responsible for nur-
sery in February, and to place
flowers in the church in March.
Members were reminded of the
congregational meeting and Pot
Luck Supper to be held January
26.
Mrs. Byron Kyle conducted a
contest, and Mrs. Ken Elder, who
was the hostess, and her
assistants, served lunch.

Open House was held January
16 at the home of Mr. & Mrs. John
Pym of R.R. 3, Exeter, in honor
of their parents Mr. & Mrs,
Ernest Pym's 45th wedding
anniversary.
Over 60 relatives and friends
turned out in spite of the weather
conditions to congratulate the
couple. Several phr le calls were
received from per ale who could
not be present.
Mr. & Mrs. Pym were married
in January 1927, by Rev. Duncan
McTavish, at the James Street
Parsonage, in Exeter, and
resided on their farm at R.R. 3,
Exeter for 43 years. Upon
retiring they came to Hensall 3
years ago and now reside in the
Maples.
The Pyms have two daughters,
Mrs. Tony (Nona) Shulman,
Embro, and Mrs. Allan (Lois)'`
Wanner, Sarnia, and a son John
of R.R. 3, Exeter, and 12 grand,
children,

wed 45 years
Cpl. Douglas Wein, R.C.M.P.,
Mrs. Wein and David left this
week for their home in Chet-
tecamp, Nova Scotia after
spending a month's vacation with
Mrs. Wein's parents, Mr. & Mrs.
Harold Parker, and family and
with Mr. Wein's parents, Mr. &
Mrs. Lawrence Wein, Exeter.
Stanley Mitchell is a patient in
South Huron Hospital, Exeter.

Because of the bad weather
conditions Saturday evening, the
Adult Fellowship Group from the
Hensall United Church were not
able to have, the bowling party.
However, plans are being made
to reschedule another one for a
later date.

Susan Luther was successful in
passing her Grade II Theory
from the Royal Conservatory of
Music, with honors, Susan is a
pupil of Miss Greta Lammie and
the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Eric
Luther, Hensall.
Art Hallam is a patient in St.
Joseph's Hospital, London, where
he underwent surgery on Monday
of this week.
Kinettes give
to hockey
The Kinette Club of Hensall
held their January meeting at the
home of Mrs. Marg Knight. Guest
for the evening was Sharon
Brokenshire.
Donations were made to the
Salvation Army, and to the
Hensall Minor Athletic
Association.
Letters were received from the
two foster children in Italy, who
are sponsored by the club.
The raffle was won by Mrs. Ann
Maxwell.

Mrs. Ed Munn and Mrs. Percy
Campbell will be in charge of the
next meeting when roll call will
be answered with a verse on
"Love."

The Ladies Aid Meeting
followed. Plans were discussed
for catering to a banquet to be
held in February in the
Presbyterian Church, for the
welcoming of the president of the
Rebekah Assembly, who will be
visiting the district then,

Chiselhurst U.C.W. started the
first meeting of the New Year by
having a pot luck dinner and
quilting Thursday afternoon.
Mrs. Alvin Cole opened the
meeting with a poem, followed
by the theme song and prayer.
Mrs. Rosa Harris gave the
worship with the title being
"Thought to Mind,"
Mrs. Clarence Coleman read a
poem entitled "New Year."
A short business session took
place.
Mrs. Harold Parker gave the
Bible study. The hostess was
Mrs. Russell Brock.
Institute
tours plant
For the January meeting of
Hensall Women's Institute, a tour
of Boise Cascade was arranged.
About 20 members and friends
enjoyed a tour of the plant con-
ducted by Claus Van Wieren, who
was very informative about each
stage of the manufacturing of the
mobile homes, beginning with the
frame and ending with the
completed product.
A business session was later
held in the Legion Hall when
plans were completed for a
euchre, to be held on February 9,
All members are asked to
provide lunch.
Hostesses were Mrs. E. Riley
and Mrs. A. Reid. Program
conveners Mrs. C. Payne and
Mrs. J. Skea.
Messengers
hear stories
Hensall United Church
Messengers held their. January
meeting Monday after school.
The meeting opened with
everyone listening to the record
on Africa after which the
Messenger motto was repeated.
Leader Mrs. Shirley McAllister
told the Bible story called "The
Broken Window."
Offering was taken by Randy
Parker.
Leader Mrs. Joyce Pepper
introduced another country of
Africa — Congo, and much
discussion was given to the
customs, food, dwellings, and
celebrations. The children
learned that the schools are run
by the Church and that the
world's smallest people
(Pygmies) and the tallest
(Batutsi) live in this country of
jungle, lakes and mountains.
A story, "Three new Friends,"
was read.
Meeting closed with prayer by
Laurie Pepper.

Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Bailey of
London were recent visitors with
the latter's brother and sister-in-
law, Mr. & Mrs. Roy MacDonald.
Lady dies
at Listowel
Miss Janet May McNaughton
passed away at Heimstra Nur-
sing Home, Listowel, January 16,
1972. Formerly of 296 Queens
Ave„ London, the deceased spent
her earlier years in Toronto, a
daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs.
Daniel McNaughton, Hensall.
Surviving is one brother, Peter
L. McNaughton, Hensall, and
several neices and nephews. She
was predeceased by one brother,
Lorne, and one sister Gretta.
Funeral service was conducted
by Rev. D. Beck' from the Bon-
thron Funeral Home on Tuesday
with interment in Hensall Union
Cemetery.
