Exeter council last week learned that the cemetery board had increased prices for lots and some of the services provided. "Our fees have been too low," Councillor Mery Ctidmore stated. He is one of council's ap- pointments to the board and reported that jobs were being performed at less than actual cost. Councillor Ross Taylor questioned the need for increases when in fact the board had money to loan. The money to which he was referring was the $103,700 held by the board for perpetual care. He was advised that none of this money could be used, only the interest from it, and that each year council had to give a grant to the board. Cemetery costs go up Cudmore pointed out that many non-residents were buried at the cemetery, and unless the rates were increased, local ratepayers would have to pay more towards th‘ cemetery operation. participants in sports have to pay their own way, so why shouldn't the participants out thire (cemetery) too? questioned Councillor Tom MacMillan. Cost of a four-grave lot at the cemetery has been increased by $25 to $185 for residents and $200 for non-residents. Two-grave lots are up $10 at $115 and $130 respectively and single lots are $60 and $75. Opening graves in winter was increased $10 and will now cost $85 for residents and $90 for non- residents. The annual rate for a flower bed was increased from $7 to $12. All other costs remain as they were.
