Dear Santa,
I have tried to be a good girl
this year. I help mother wash the
supper dishes if I am home. I got
nine A's in my report card.
Thank you for the nice presents
you gave me last year. On rainy
days I play with my cash
register. Two days after
Christmas I went to the hospital
to get my tonsils out. I wore the
dress you gave to me Do you
remember it?
This year I would like a skating
suit, I got some new skates just
the other week ago and that's
why I'd like the new suit.
I hope you and Mrs. Santa
Claus have a very Merry
Christmas!

Fifteen years ago this
Christmas the Times-Advocate
started the tradition of printing
children's letters to Santa
Claus.
It was amongst this first group
of 'letters that Elizabeth Knox'
letter •"appeared that started a
unique relationship between her
and a reader who chose to be
known only as "Another
Elizabeth,"
"The other Elizabeth" not
only provided Elizabeth Knox
with what she wanted for
Christmas, a Moo Moo Molly cow
but eventually set up a trust fund.
for the girl's future education.
Elizabeth Knox is now married
to Alan Cathcart and both she and
her husband teach mathematics
inYonibana Secondary School, in
Lierra Leone, West Africa.
The following is her letter
which is accompanied by others
written by some of her
classmates, 15 years ago, The
children were the grades two And
three class of Miss Velma
Ballagh.

Do You Have To Be
Rich To Have a Merry
Christmas
By BROOK NA DON
Grade 5 J.A.D. McCurdy
No! You have to have hap-
piness. You have to have the soul
to give. Think about the way the
angels told the wisernan to go to
Bethlehem. "Thy saviour is born
in Bethlehem" Think! Make the
best of what you get. Remember
Mary and Joseph were so poor
until the son of God was born.
