WHAT CHRISTMAS
MEANS TO ME
By WENDY VANBRUAENE
Grade 8 Grand Bend
Christmas is a time of joy and
peace. It brings to mind a time of
love and understanding.
Christmas at my house is a
cherished event. Mom cooks the
dinner, Dad stays home from
work and my brother builds a
roaring fire. At the break of dawn
I wake up with a wonderful
feeling inside. It's the start of
another day — a day of great
enjoyment! Finally 8:00 o'clock
comes and I get up to wake my
mother. This wakes brother up
and the three of us go downstairs.
Dad stays in bed taking ad-
vantage of the extra day off. But
by 8:30 it becomes unbearable so
Morn goes upstairs and wakes
Dad up. Then everyone gathers
around in the living room — to
each a chair of their own.
Someone gets up and starts the
chain of gift-giving. In my eyes
giving presents is like giving love
to another person.
Christmas isn't just laughter
and pleasure. It can be a time of
religion. A time for people to sit
down and do some serious
thinking on how Jesus expressed
his love for us; by showing us
what Christmas means should
mean to all of us.
received any concise estimate on
the cost, or in fact, whether
fluoridation was even needed.
He suggested this information
be obtained as they had agreed to
do at their meeting of April 19.
Council agreed.
Works superintendent Glenn
Kells announced that members of
the works department had
agreed to new hours for the
winter months to get an earlier
start at clearing streets of snow.
He said the men would work in
shifts and the first shift would be
on the streets at 6:00 a.m.
"That's real good," Councillor
Sherry Desjardine — I like
opening presents,
Heather Clarke —I like playing
in the snow.
Jeff Galloway — I like it when
Santa Claus comes down the
chimney.
Sandra Glanville — I like when
Santa comes.

Ken Ottewell remarked as
council approved the plan, which
had already been agreed to by the
men involved.
+ -4-
There has still been no report to
council regarding the activities
during the past year of the Exeter
industrial development com-
mission,
Three weeks ago, council had
asked that the commission make
a written or verbal report on their
activities, after Councillor Tom
MacMillan, a member of the
commission, noted there had not
been any meetings to which he
had been invited in recent
months.
In view of the grant received
from council, members felt a
report should be forthcoming.
Clerk Eric Carscadden said he
had written the chairman,
William C, Smith, outlining
council's wishes.
Two building permits were
approved at the meeting, subject
to final okay by the building in-
spector.
They were for Ron Dickey to
renovate the interior of a house
on Carling and to Morley Hall to
renovate his house on Main St.
