It was good year
according to council
The past year was a good one
for Exeter council!
That's the only conclusion one
could reach after listening to the
comments of several members
around the council table, Mon-
day.
"This council is progressively
doing good work and trying to
ithprove the town without making
any big mistakes," commented
Councillor Mery Cudmore as he
led council in some back-slap-
ping.
"We should certainly get 'E'
for effort," commented Mrs.
Helen Jermyn, while Councillor
Bruce Shaw gave more tangible
evidence of the work ac-
complished as he listed about
eight major projects completed
during the year or put into
progress.
These included the usual — or
an increased — number of
sidewalk, sewer and paving
projects, a new building code,
bylaws for the collection of
garbage, traffic lights for the
town's main intersection, plans
for a new town hall and a com-
mittee being organized to spear-
head the town's centennial in
1973.
"We're accomplishing as much
for a dollar as any council can
do," opined Mayor Jack
Delbridge later in the meeting.
He congratulated council
members for their efforts over
the year and said there had only
been "slight" differences bet-
ween members.
One of those was between the
Mayor and Councillor Helen
Jermyn and the former
suggested they both had said
things they shouldn't have.
At this .point he walked over
and shook the distaff member's
hand, noting he was letting
bygones be bygones.
Reeve Derry Boyle found this
difficult to understand, noting the
Mayor had never offered to shake
his hand despite the many verbal
battles in which they have
become engaged in over the
years.
With this, Mayor Delbridge
walked over the shook the
Reeve's hand,

of the system could be completed.
Councillor Jackson remarked
that residents of Grand Bend
used an average of 156,600 gallons
per day for July and August and
38,000 in November. •
He said with the fluctuation of
the village's population, a sewage
system should be designed for
15,000 persons.
In closing the discussion,
Reeve John Payne said, "I think
I his is a real fine idea, if it can get
off the ground."
"The system's cost to an
average household of four per-
sons would be about $88 per year
without any government sub-
sidies."
Issue warnings
In his regular report, road
foreman Vic Anysyniw said he
had issued several warnings to
snowmobilers for operating their
machines on sidewalks.

WHAT CHRISTMAS MEANS
TO ME
By CATHY VRIESE
Grade 7 —Exeter P.S.
I think Christmas means joy
and happiness — to be happy
when Jesus was born. It also
means presents, candy canes,
games and giving and receiving.
But one thing surpasses that.
Santa Claus of course! The big
old rozy-cheeked fellow is the
nicest part. Telling him what you
would like and things like that. Of
course you have a tree.
Christmas lights to brighten up
your house, and stockings hung
up for Santa to fill, If we didn't
have a Santa, who would fill our
3 stockings? These are some of the
things I like about Christmas.
