CLARKE KENNEDY GRAND BEND The W.I. held their Christmas meeting Thursday afternoon in the village hall. The meeting began with dessert. Hostesses were Mrs. Susie Devine, Mrs. Elgin Webb, Mrs. Max Turnbull and Mrs. Frank Plumb. Christmas gifts were ex- changed by each of the ladies and the motto, "The Joy of the gift is in the giving," was ably presented by Mrs. Frank Plumb. Group singing of favourite Christmas carols was enjoyed. A doll dressed by Susie Devine, which was on display at the Exeter Fair, was auctioned at this meeting, Mrs. Rosa Grigg was the winner. Branch Directors Mrs. Verne Ridley and Mrs. Wm. Love were responsible for the December meeting. St. Johns St. Johns-By-the-Lake Anglican Sunday School party was held in the Parish Hall Saturday afternoon. A drama, "Preparing for the Coming of Jesus" was presented by the Sunday School members, Bible readings were read responsively by Susan Morton and Margaret Dunn. Gifts were presented to the children and refreshments were served. United Church Christmas Sunday worship at the Grand Bend United Church was led by the Sunday School children, The service taking the place of a Sunday School Concert. The Primary Sunday School presented a play with Mr. & Mrs. Gerry Kading as readers. A candle was lighted to celebrate Jesus birth and the children sang "Happy Birthday Jesus". Laurie Baird read the Christmas story. HAROLD DAVIS St. Paul's Anglican Church held their annual Christmas supper and party Saturday evening, Ken Blackler Sunday School Superintendant was chairman for the program. Musical numbers were given by Vivian Doupe, Tracy Wilcox, Herbert Children, Bruce Fair- bairn, Philip Blackler, Jeff Henry, Jayne Blackler, Debbie and Susan Schaefer, Kirk Blackler and Phyllis Nesbit. Recitations by David Blackler, Bruce Fairbairn, Russell Nesbit, Marion Herbert. The Junior children gave a symbol skit. Those taking part were Vivian Doupe, Russell Nesbit, Susan Schaefer, Terri Wilcox and David Blackler, The senior class had a game of charades, the panel was Bruce Fairbairn, Tracy Wilcox, Susan Schaefer, Kirk Blackler. Charades were acted out by Rev. and Mrs. Rokeby-Thomas, Mark Henry, Reg and David Paul, David Nesbit, Mrs. Bob Wilcox, Philip Blackler Carol and nine lesson service was observed at St. Paul's church Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. The lessons were read by Robert Blackler, Brent Blackler, Mark Henry, Terri Paul, Debbie Schaefer, Steven Blackler, Philip Blackler, Bill Hocking and Rev. Rokeby-Thomas. ACW St. Paul's Church ACW met Thursday evening at the rectory. Mrs. Bill Waghorn opened the meeting and scripture was read by Mrs. Robt, Wilcox. Mrs. Wm. Schaefer gave a Christmas reading. Rev. Rokeby-Thomas was the Sass of Menlo, Park, California, are spending a Christmas holiday with the latter's mother, Mrs. Marty Burke of Oakwood Park, Mr. & Mrs. A, Best and son Davis, of Toronto, have moved to the village. Mr, & Mrs. Best have purchased the laundromat. Mrs. Susie Devine entertained her family to a turkey dinner last Sunday at Dashwood Community Centre. The G,B. and area Cub pack under the leadership of Mr. A. Savage enjoyed going out to Bell Aerospace to have a look at the Hovercraft that was recently on display. Mr. & Mrs. Chas. Tindall back from Florida for a few days, had dinner with Mr. & Mrs. Everard Miller last Wednesday. John Graham has arrived home from England for the holiday season, speaker for the evening and spoke on "Christmas". The slate of officers was presented for '72: president, Mrs. Garth Blackler; vice president, Mrs. Gerald Paul; secretary, Mrs, Burns Blackler; treasurer, Mrs.. Harold Davis; pianist, Mrs. Claire Sisson. Floral committee, Mrs. M. Blackler, Mrs. M. McCurdy; decorating committee, Mrs. Robt. Wilcox, Mrs. John Simpson and Mrs. Alex, Irvine; prayer partner secty, Mrs. Wm. Blackler. At the close of the meeting lunch was served by Mrs. Robert Wilcox and Mrs. Miller McCurdy. Bishop Appleyard preached on gifts. He said we give at Christmas but we also receive. He said we receive God's gift of His Son Jesus Christ. Following the service the women of the church served tea and coffee in the basement hall. Mrs, Roy Cunningham president of the A,C.W. was in charge. A lovely centre piece was provided by Mrs. M. Simpson. The Anglican Church Women will meet January 6 at 2:00 p.m. in the rectory, Lucan. The community was saddened at the death of Wayne Donaldson. Clande-girls Meeting of the Clade girls was held December 16 with seven present. The girls decorated the Sunday School room, bagged candy, and prepared for the children's Christmas party. Mrs. Lee Marcus took the program on the subject music and arts in Zambia. Lunch was served by the hostess Mrs. Bonnie Barr. The Clandeboye United Church held the cogregational Christmas party Sunday, The children acted out a Christmas play and Mrs. Tupling lead the children in caroling. Later, Santa arrived and passed out candy to all the children, UNITED CHURCH Christmas service was held in Kirkton United Church with a large congregation present, The junior, intermediate and senior choir rendered a special Christmas anthem. Rev, J. King's message was on a Christmas theme. The church was decorated for the service and Mrs. Fred Switzer presided'at the organ. Near Toronto, there's a Skid Control School.
