Rudolph's shiny, red nose was turning dull, none of the reindeer were happy, only a few toys were made, and worst of all Santa Claus was sick. If any other bad thing hap- pened Santa would have to call off Christmas altogether, and he knew how all the children wouldn't like that, and so all anyone could do was hope for the best. Mrs. Claus brought Santa some delicious, hot soup with some thick biscuits, He could get a tiny bit of the soup down, but when it came to the biscuits it only made him cough and sneeze. Three days later: About 2 hours after Santa had eaten his lunch a thought came to him like a streak of lightening. He yelled for his wife, and she came running. He explained to her all of his plans, and suddenly Santa felt better because he had CHRISTMAS MORNING By GARY JENNISON Grand Bend It was Christmas morning and the whole family was up. That is all but father. Father was the one person who distributed the gifts, and if father didn't get up, we didn't get our gifts. The morning wore on from 9:00 o'clock, straight on to 11:45. At this time we could hear father, dear father beginning to rise. Slowly he walked down the stairs to the kitchen where mother had a glass of orange juice waiting for him. Once he had drank it down he walked into the livingroom where the rest of us were patiently waiting. He then sat down beside the tree and began to give the gifts to the family. When we had them all opened including father we would thank the different people for giving them to each other. We would then eat breakfast and play different games. This was our usual Christmas. something to do. So he hopped out of bed and got dressed. Santa got some wax and a cloth and shined Rudolph's nose so it was a bright, red once more. When all the reindeer saw Santa and Rudolph were all right they also soon became fine. Then the elves and Santa went and worked all day and all night and made so many toys that they easily filled the sled. Then Santa hopped into his sled, with a chuckle he yelled, Letters OH Christmas By PATRICIA SCHROEDER Stephen Central Stable North pole N.W.T. Canada, Wed. Dec, 11971. Dear Santa Claus, This is Rudlfph. I am writing to to tell you that I am com- plaining because the sleigh is too heavy and I am the first reindeer. You are going to have to write to all the children and tell them you can not bring them very many toys this year and tell the elves not to make as many toys this year, Just a few days ago Cupid got the fleu and the sleigh is even heavier. So Comet, Donner, Blitzen, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, and me Rudofph can not pull the sleigh. Love Rudofph Lucan, Ontario, Dec. 10, 1971. Dear Santa, How are you. Canada Dear Miss Bizz, I am affraid that Elizebeth's gift 'has been misplaced, Snozy put it in Dancer's manger when he was sleepwalking and Dancer swallowed it, The indigestion soused him very much pain. We will try to order another toy like it. Mrs, Claus, my wife is trying in every factory. I am very busy. I will try to do my duty. Yours sincerely, Santa Claus CHRISTMAS? By CHRISTENA CATHCART Grade 8— Mount Carmel Do you really know the true meaning of Christmas? Many people around the world just think of it as a time when you get gifts from your family, friends and relatives. The smaller children think that it is a time when they write .a letter to some jolly old fellow named Santa Claus, and then they hope that he will fulfil their wishes on Christmas eve. Did you ever stop to think that we are celebrating the birth of Christ the Savior? Do you think of the hardships that Joseph and Mary went through, and the peace and joy that his birth brought to the world? Think about it! What is your true meaning of Christmas? All around the world today many people suffer deeply through wars, poverty and diseases, Does this mean that they can't happily enjoy the true meaning of Christmas? No! They are suffering many hardships, but so did Mary and Joseph! They can still think of and enjoy the true meaning of the first Christmas, and the birth of Christ our Savior. Yes these people can truly not only think of the true meaning, but they are really reliving the First Christmas! Think about it! RUDOLF MAKES FRIENDS By TERRY BAKER Grade 4 — Hensall P.S. One day when Rudolf was outside playing in the snow he stopped and wanted to go to see what the forest looked like, He wandered off into the forest. A wolf saw him walking along and came up to Rudolf and said that he would eat Rudolf if he didn't try to run away. When Rudolf heard that, he ran as fast as he could until he no longer could see the wolf and knew that he was lost, The next morning Rudolf got up, looked around and said to himself, "I wish 1 knew where I was," He started to walk to find his home. When it was night he was deeper into the forest and planned that in the morning he would go the opposite way, So the next morning he did what he planned the night befor, and made it home. He went into the house and Mrs. Claus got out of bed to see who was there. When she saw Rudolf she woke up Santa, all the elves, and reinder. They gave him a coming home party.
