pageants. But what's a bag of
candy to a kid to-day? He
probably collected eight times
that amount on Hallowe'en, and
also he can buy his own, not that
cheap stuff in the Christmas bag.
And the pageants, more's the

At its regular meeting this
week the Middlesex County
Board of Education authorized its
adminigtrative officials to
prepare a school maintenance
program in connection with the
provincial-municipal employ.
ment incentive program,.
The employment program runs
from November 1, 1971 to May 31,
1972 and requires that labour be
recruited 60 percent from em-
ployable welfare reeipierits and
450 percent from other unem-
ployed. The county board has
been given an allotment of $17,600
and an extensive school painting
program is being considered.
The board, in other business,
decided not to change its policy
governing student fund-raising,
as requested by students at the
November 15 board meeting. The
Board felt that its policy, which
had been revised last summer,
was '''sufficiently flexible to
overcome objections raised by
the students since it provides for
approval of campaigns by the
Director of Education on the
recommendation of the school
principal.
Walkathons and door-to-door
sales campaigns do not receive
blanket approval but they may be

Among reports received by the
Board was one concerning ac-
commodation for South Mid-

London city schools. It indicated
that forecast enrolment and
accommodation of London and
Middlesex Boards suggest that
neither Board will need to Wilda

1975, as it seems certain that the
London system will be able to
accommodate the South Mid-

previously set 1974 as a tentative
target date for construction of a
new South Middlesex Secondary

Board will continue to meet
