Zion ladies to make quilt By MRS. CLARKE KENNEDY GRAND BEND The United Church Women's Annual meeting was held Tuesday evening when a pot luck supper was enjoyed preceding the business session. In the absence of the president, Mrs. R. Keyes, presided weer the meeting. All reports were given showing a very rewarding year. Money was set aside in a reserve fund to paint the Sunday School rooms of the church. Mrs. B. Jennison was appointed to see the job would be taken care of in the new year. One hundred and forty dollars was voted to the mission and service fund of the church in lieu of flowers to hospitalized members. Senior Citizens Grand Bend and area senior citizens held their December get- to-gether Wednesday afternoon in the Legion Hall. A sing song of Christmas carols and old time favourites was first on the program followed by a duet by Mrs. Mae Holt and Mr. Arthur Finkbeiner. A reading entitled "The Gold on the Ivory Tablecloth" was given by Mrs. C. Reeves. Wm Love presided over the business session. Mrs. Holt and Mrs. Love were asked to bring lunch to the January meeting and Mr. & Mrs. A. Finkbeiner were asked to be responsible for program. Euchre and bingo were played for the remainder of the program. Personals Bonnie Green spent the weekend in Toronto visiting her sister Elaine and family. White gift Sunday will be held in the United Church Sunday . The primary and junior Sunday school will take part in the worship. Christmas carols will be sung by the children. A. Savage, Grand Bends cub master, was in St. Catharines for the weekend. Alfred J. Willis of Barrie who is a T.V. broadcaster there visited with his parents Mr. & Mrs. A Willis, Hill Street, last week. Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. A. Willis were Mr. & Mrs. Don Chapman and Darrel of London and Rev. and Mrs. Murdock Morrison of Varna. Peter Hendrick entertained a number of his South Huron District High School friends at his home Saturday evening. THOMAS HERN ZION Zion West UCW held their Christmas meeting at the home of Mrs. Gerald Hern Wednesday evening. Mrs. Wm, Morley president conducted the business. All meetings for the coming year will be held in the church basement, a surprise roll call to be had at each meeting requiring a small donation, Members will make a quilt, blocks to be started in January. Mrs. Ray Jaques read a letter from Rev. Geraldine Reid of Trinidad. A Christmas devotional was given by Mrs, Lorne Hern and Mrs. Morley assisted by Mrs. Ray Jaques, Mrs. Clifton Jaques, Mrs. Harry Hern and Mrs. Thomas Hern. A demonstration on wrapping Christmas presents and making ribbon bows was given by Mrs. Torn Hern Jr. Everyone made a Christmas Bible with Mrs. Lorne Hem demonstrating. Baptism Rev. John Beaton held a baptismal service during church Sunday when Christopher Gerald Stuart Hern, son of Mr. & Mrs. Larry Hern, was baptized, Mrs. Hern was also received into the membership of Zion Church by elder, Norman Jaques. Personals Mr.. & Mrs. David Kyle and Tracy, Thamesville, were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Tom Hern Jr., Lisa, Michael and Brenda.
