New leaders in charge of CGIT elections BRANCH 540 AT CONVENTION — Lucan Legion branch 540 was well represented at last week's District "A" convention at St. Thomas. Shown ready for a parade are from the left, Ross Needham, Bill Smith, Sid Daley, Emmerson Degraw and Jack Elson. Mr. & Mrs. Ryan were married in St. Patrick's Church, Lucan by Rev. Fr. John Hogan, The bride is the former Cecelia Grace, daughter of the late Mary and Michael Grace. Mr. Ryan is a son of the late Edward and Mary Ryan. They have one daughter, Grace Frazer of Belleville, five sons, Edward and Bill, Lucan, James of Granton, Jack and Frank of London and 22 grand- children. Mr. & Mrs. Ryan retired from farming in Biddulph and moved to Lucan in 1966, where they now reside, Many messages of congratulations were received Bake sale Saturday Mr. & Mrs. Harold Ryan, Lucan marked their 50th wedding anniversary Tuesday, October 12 with a nuptual mass at St. Patrick's Church, Lucan, celebrated by Father McGraw. Saturday October 16, a family dinner was held at the Royal Canadian Legion followed by a social evening attended by relatives, neighbors and friends. Those attending from out of town were from Detroit, Richmond, Mich; Annapolis, Wash; Belleville, Port Colborne. Alvinston, Wallaceburg, Chep- stow, Mt. Carmel, Zurich, Parkhill and London. Mrs. Win. Froats gave a talk on the school for leaders, she at- tended at Alma College, St. Thomas. Rev. W.C. Tupling spoke a few words on the mission festival which will be held in the CE building in the spring. Lunch was served . ducted by Mrs. Eldon Young, Mrs. Florence Stanley, Mrs. Lorne Hodgins and Mrs. John Tutty. Seventeen ladies were present including three visitors from Clandeboye UCW who reminded those present of the bazaar at United Church October 22. The Lucan United Church Women met last Tuesday with Mrs, Sheridan Revington taking the chair in the absence of president Mrs, M.H. Hodgins. It was agreed to hold a bake sale Saturday, October 23 to be held in Clayton Haskett's show room. President is Mrs. Harry Band Sr.; vice-president, Mrs. Ivy Little; program convener, Mrs. Thomas Emery; sec-treas., Fred McIlhargey, Euchre was played and lunch was served by Mrs. Frank Hardy Sr. and Mr, William Frost. rl The Lucan and Clandeboye CGIT, met last Tuesday in the Lucan United Church Sunday School room with three leaders and 16 members in attendance. Two new leaders are Miss Margaret Sach for the junior group and Mrs. R. Acres for the senior group. Miss Sach was in charge of the Quiet wedding A quiet wedding took place in Lucan on Tuesday October 12 when Mrs. Marion McFee and Percy Wells were united in marriage with Rev. W.C. Cribbage, euchre, shuffle board, darts you name it and you will find it at Branch 540 where all the action is. Confidentially, Comrade, Branch 540 is accepting 1972 Branch dues. Have you got anything to crow about? Joint the early birds and you most cer- tainly will. Our 1972 dues are coming in really well and from here it appears that Branch 540 will do it again - and show 100 percent of its branch members electionofofficersfollowed by the induction of same and the new elected president was Brenda Hodgins; vice-president, Donna Leitch; sec, Janet Smith; treas., Karen Herbert. The new executive took over the business. The president asked for $1, half the fee, the rest to be paid by treasury, A lingerie party was planned in form of open house for November 9. The girls are to serve tea for silver collection, the proceeds to be used for Christ- mas baskets for shut-ins. A vesper service was discussed. Next meeting will be a Halloween party with initiation of new members being planned by Sr. group. Guessing games were played. Churc h news UNITED CHURCH Rev. W.C. Tupling was in charge of the morning services at the Lucan United Church. Mr. Tupling's sermon topic was "How should a Christian Vote in the Election." The sacrament of baptism was administered for Sean Gregory, son of Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Bates and Tabatha Anne daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Dale Froats. Next Sunday at 8 p.m. in Metropolitan UC London will be a Festival of Hymns, and in- troduction to the new Anglican United Church hymn books. ANGLICAN CHURCH Last Sunday in Holy Trinity Church the music for the folk hymns and songs was from two guitars played by Janis Field and Johanna Engle of Biddulph Lucan personals School. The Junior Choir was lead by Mrs. C. Hardy. During the service it was an- nounced that Lori Shipley, Jeff Shipley, Karen Henderson, John Henderson, Cheryl Hardy, Tim Culbert, Cheryl Noyes, Patty Atkinson, and Hollee Elson had obtained their first star for League of Loyalty attendance. Rev. R.A. Carson announced that the annual Archdeaconry Statutory meeting would be held in St. Paul's Cathedral, Thur- , sday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m. Right Rev. Orland Ugham Lindsay, Bishop at Antigua in the Caribbean will be the speaker. Sunday, October 24, which is Layman's Sunday the Sunday School will meet at 9:45 a.m., the nursery and League of Loyalty at 11:00 a.m. and the service of morning prayer at 11:00 a.m. 0 County match ready to go The annual Middlesex County plowing match will be held Saturday on the farm of Bev Westman, near Granton. The Westman farm is located a half-mile north of highway 7. Plowing competition will start Saturday morning. Coaching classes will be held ,Friday af- ternoon. Developing day for Biddulph October 22 is professional developing day for the teachers and the Biddulph Lucan Public Schools will be closed. Thursday, October 28, is parents night. DANDY To live in Guelph St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Lucan was decorated with white and yellow mums and asters for the wedding ceremony performed by Rev. J. G. McGraw, October 2, for Catherine Ann Kelly and Lorne James Dandy, The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Kelly of Gran- ton, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Dandy of Fergus. Music was provided by Mrs. M. Mooney, soloist, accompanied by Miss Betty Morkin, both of Lucan. Given in marriage by her father, the bride had chosen a floor-length gown of white crepe with slight train, nylon smocking across bodice and long lily-point sleeves. A garland of white roses held the long veil which featured lace appliques. She carried two red roses on a white prayer book. Her matron-of-honor was her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Giles, of Strathroy, Her bridesmaids were , Mrs, Mary Jolley, another sister, f 4 .461046M3*: Mr. & Mrs, Ernest Kennedy, Debbie, Darrin and Darrel spent last weekend in Colpoy Bay, Wiarton. Mrs. John Herbert, a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital is much improved after a serious heart attack. Mr. & Mrs. Ray Fischer of London spent last Sunday with Mrs. Catherine Fischer. Norman Hardy, not having raced since last June, won a race at Western Fair Raceway recently with Kent Express driven by Ken Hardy. Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Whitehead, Lucan, Mr. & Mrs. John Pegelo Chesley spent last weekend travelling to Ottawa, Ottawa Valley, North Bay and other points. Mr. & Mrs. Charles Glenn and boys visited with Mr. & Mrs. Dave Frook, Mr. & Mrs. Clifford Pegelo both of Chesley, over the holiday weekend. Miss Kathy Ennis and Mr. David Hotson spent Sunday last visiting with Mr. & Mrs. Larry Hotson. Mr. & Mrs. Murray Hodgins attended the christening of their granddaughter, Jennifer, at Wesley Willis Church, Clinton, Sunday last. Mrs. Alice Scott, guest in Strathmere Lodge, Strathroy, was able to be out for a drive Thanksgiving Day. She called on Mrs. Couts of London who was celebrating her 90th birthday. Mrs. Scott had lunch with her daughter Mrs. Ruth Hill of Clandeboye also visited with her grandchildren before returning the Lodge. Neil McRann's, Whiz Kid, driven by Neil ,himself, came in a winner Thursday October 14 at Western Fair Raceway, Mrs. Kay Haggar and Mrs. Florence Hodgins spent the Thanksgiving holiday with Dr. & Mrs. T,A, Watson at Key Har- bour. Mrs, Lorraine Fischer, Kennon and Jamie, Mr. Larry Rodin, Mr, & Mrs. Ray Fischerall of London visited with Mrs. Catherine Fischer, Sunday last. Mrs, Bob Coleman has returned home from a five day visit with London and St. Thomas relatives. • Mrs. A.B. Bowo (the former Ha Phinn) visited at the McCormick home Sunday. Mrs. Ken Gaun of London, Mrs. Lang De Coursey and Mrs. Helen Coursey of Dearborn, Michigan, and Mrs. Erie tanwell of Wind- sor have returned home from a trip from Montreal and Ottawa. Mr. & Mrs. C.W. Langford of Toronto were recent visitors with Mrs. Charles Windsor Miss Lina Abbott of McCor- mick home was one of the many who attended the commercial travellers drive to Komoka and Springbank Saturday. Mrs. John Park tell and broke her arm and is quite ill, Mr. Park is also confined to his home through illness. Mrs. L Dewery of Florida is visiting with Mrs. John Park and relatives for a few weeks. Explorers plan UNICEF canvass Lucan - Clandeboye Explorers met in the Education Wing of the United Church with 12 red stars, six blue, eight gold girls and three councillors present on Monday October 18. Janet Goddard conducted business. A special offering was taken for UNICEF. Wendy Hern, Chris Stutt and Debbie Arnold protected the most children from TB by their offering. After singing Halloween fun songs the groups divided; the red stars with Mrs, K. Kraul, reviewed their emblem, discussed motto and explorer picture "follow me." They worked on their booklets and repeated memory work to earn their first red star, Blue stars with Mrs. Froats colored books of the Bible in a bookcase. They discussed the books of the law, history, and poetry and the gospels in the New Testament, To achieve their first blue star they are learning an Explorer hymn. Gold stars with Mrs. Sawdon discussed their talents and how to use them. Joanne Cunningham read a story. UNICEF bOok marks and leaflet's were given out and read. Next Expedition will be Monday, October 25, Come from school bus at 3;30 for snack, filth on UNICEF and to collect for it from each home. The bride's attendants wore identical dresses of floor-length royal blue velvet, with long bell sleeves, and slight trains. They each carried one rose on a prayer-book covered with royal blue velvet. Charles Dandy of Guelph, brother of the groom, was the best man. Joseph Kelly of Granton, brother of the bride, Eric Collins of Fergus and Maurice Pichard, of Grimsby were the ushers. A reception was held at the Lucan Community Hall ; The bride wore a two piece outfit of wine crimpolene with black accessories and corsage of yellow roses for a trip to Manitoulin Island. The bride is a graduate of St. Joseph's School of Nursing, Hamilton, The young couple will make their home at Guelph, Ontario. Available only in areas served by .
