The first touchdown came when Perry Stover hit Brian Taylor with a 25 yard pass after Wayne Regier had gained 23 yards along the ground. Late in the second Period Pete Wuerth grabbed a n yard pass from quarterback Perry Stover to set up Stover for a six yard sneak over the goal-line. The only Goderich points of the afternoon came in the third quarter when the Panthers conceded two points. Later in the same period, Gerald Weido blocked a Goderich punt and Pat Bedard scooped the ball up and romped 35 yards for a score. Paul Truemner completed the South Huron scoring in the final period with a six yard touchdown run. Centralia Farmers Supply Ltd. In the second quarter, Pat Bedard blocked a Clinton kick and John Wuerth gained possession for the Panthers. From there Stover hit Pete Wuerth on a 35 yard gas's and run play for another major score. Wuerth struck for his second touchdown late in the first half on the five yard gallop. The scoring was set up when Harvey Desjardine regained a Clinton fumble and Stover passed to Brian Taylor ,for 33 yards. The South Huron attack con- tinued in the third quarter with Bill Wilson handling the signal calling duties. Wilson went over the line himself from seven yards out on a quarter back sneak. Runs of 30 and 17 yards, respectively by Wayne Regier and Wilson were instrumental in getting the ball into scoring position. The final six points for the Panthers came in the final period when Brad Datars scored on an 11-yard run. Paul Robinson had an excellent afternoon in the kicking depart- ment, being successful on four of six convert attempts. The junior football team from South Huron District High School Continued its winning ways in Huron-Perth Conference play while the senior club suffered their first loss of the season. In Goderich, Wednesday af- ternoon the Panther juniors downed the Lakeport boys by a score of 24-2 and Monday af- ternoon i(1 Clinton they blanked Central Huron of Clinton 40-0 to stretch their unbeaten string to five games. The senior team travelled to Goderich, Thursday and were on the short end of a 13-1 score for their first defeat of the season. Fail close in In dropping their first game of the year, the South Huron seniors had plenty of scoring op- portunities but were unable to move the ball successfully when they got deep into Goderich territory. Goderich scored an un- converted touchdown late in the first quarter for the first scoring play of the game. Early in the second period, Larry Bourne of the Panthers caught the Goderich defence completely off guard and went 40 yards on a reverse play to the opposition 20-yard line, The Panthers were unable to gain any ground in three plays. For the balance of the first half, Peter Kleinstiver's excellent kicking kept the Goderich team in their own end of the field and no further scoring ocurred. Again in the third quarter, the Panthers were ' in good field position on three occasions but couldn't gain much ground. They did get their first point when Pete Kleinstiver booted a single. The first try was up when Barry Baynham recovered a Goderich fumble on his own 35 yard line and carried it to the Goderich 14. The South Huron attack fizzled out on the six yard line and the home team again took over. On the next play, Goderich fumbled again and Tim Stover scooped the ball up for South Huron. It was the same story again with the Panthers unable to move the ball. Before the third quarter ended Pius Dietrich made a good run on a reverse play down the sidelines and was apparently on his way to a touchdown when he was ruled out of bounds. In the fourth quarter Barry Baynham recovered a second fumble on his own 15 yard line and scampered all the way to the Goderich 20 before being over- taken. The Panthers had to settle for a single point as Pete Kleinstiver's field goal attempt went wide. Start early In Monday's 40-0 romp over Clinton it didn't take the South Huron juniors long to get rolling. Paul Truemner ran the opening kick-off back 22-yards; Brian Taylor gained 30 yards and then took a pass from quarterback Perry Stover good for 25 yards and a quick touchdown. Only a few minutes later, the Panthers scored again with Stover going over from four uuuuuuununnuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunuumuuuunnunuuuuununuuuuunnuuuuuuuuuuunuul Mitchell Zurich This year of 197 1 has to be the busiest one of any up to date for sports in all seasons. The just concluded ball season had more teams and players taking part and the upcoming hockey season will be along the same lines. The ball, season was again a long one. Only last Sunday the Dashwood Tigers won their third Ontario title in four years and Friday night a new softball league in the area declared its champion. At the Lieury ball park, the St. Peters Saints edged Mount Cannel 3-2 in a good ball game to win the McGillivray softball league championship. Getting back to the Dashwood win over Kendall in the final game of a best-of-three series, it was one of the best games we have had the pleasure to watch in a long time. Both clubs got good fielding, excellent pitching and clutch hitting to give the fans all the ingredients for an exciting ball game. We would like to extend belated congratulations to Glenn Webb and company in bringing home another championship. It is actually the second Dashwood crown this year as only two weeks before the Dashwood juveniles under the guidance of coach Joe Fulop won the provincial title. The top baseball performer in Dashwood this summer has to be youthful John Hayter who was very instrumental in both championship wins. In the final juvenile series against Welcome, Hayter collected eight hits in only eleven trips to the plate and his fielding at shortstop was nothing short of sensational. For the intermediate Tigers, playing at the same position Hayter was just as valuable. In the deciding game he made several good diving stops to keep balls from going through to the outfield and on one of them made a key force-out at second base on a ball that looked like a sure hit. In the scoring department, he doubled to lead off the ninth with the score tied at 1-1 and scored the winning run when Pete Ravelle singled down the left field line. On the play in between, Hayter was almost doubled off second base on a long fly to left field and only a super human effort on his part with a long dive got him back just in the nick of time. Quick change Now it's a quick equipment change and most of the same athletes, especially the younger ones will be playing hockey within the next week or two. The Exeter Hawks have been holding regular practices at the Huron Park arena and will be making their first league start in Clinton this Sunday afternoon. The Hawks travel to Mitchell the following Tuesday night and will make their first home start at the Exeter arena on Friday night, October 29 against the league all-stars. It looks as if the Hawks will ice a strong club this year with a good bunch of midgets coming up along with a couple of newcomers to the club. The energetic members of the Exeter Minor Hockey Association executive have been busy lining up an excellent junior program that will be sold at all Hawk games. The program idea was first started midway through the season last year and proved to be very successful. This year's program will be much larger with pictures of all of last year's clubs in the local minor set-up. While the minor hockey program in Exeter will again be going full force, a similar program at Huron Park seems headed for a good year. With Frank Funston in charge the Huron Park arena will be the home base for minor hockey activities for boys from five to sixteen years of age. Also, for the first time, minor teams from Huron Park will be participating in the Shamrock minor leagues with clubs from Exeter, Lucan, Ilderton, Dorchester and Lambeth. 13 8 16 21 14 3 28 11 15 19 29 9 21 15 LADIES'"A" LEAGUE MI (L.. Ready to go are clubs from Dashwood, Hensall, Zurich, Huron Park and Centralia College of Agricultural Technology. Each team will be restricted to a six mile radius for the drawing of players. In addition each team will be allowed two waiver players and the same number of imports, The waiver rule would allow a player to play with a club outside his team area if the team whose area he lives in signs a waiver form. Mix-up somewhere We on numerous occasions make mistakes in getting things muddled up and it sometimes helps to know that government departments are capable of doing the same thing. Early in 1971 after some fishing licences had been issued, the Ontario Department of Lands and Forests announced that licences would no longer be needed. Only this week, a letter went out from the lands and forests department to all licence issuers saying that 1972 angling licences would be distributed by computer. The notice goes On to say that as 1972 requirements are based on the previous year's sales, it is essential that returns be made on all licences sold prior to October 31, 1971. It also states that unsold licences should be kept on hand until December 31 as some demand may continue. We know of one local issuer who sent all his licences back early in the year when they were ruled unnecessary. 16 9 7 7 5 5 LADIES' INTERTOWN Mikes No. 2 Stratford EXeter Mikes No. 1 Stratford St. Marys Bowl-mar No. 1 Stratford Bowl-Mor No. 2 Stratford MEN'S "A" LEAGUE BR (C.
