Numerous showers held
to honour local bride-elect
parents, Mr. & Mrs. Harvey
Latta entertained the bridal
party at their home,
The bride-to-be's mother en-
tertained at a trousseau tea at
her home. Pouring tea in the
afternoon were Mrs. Garfield
Latta, grandmother of the
groom-elect, and Mrs. Len
Harvey, aunt of the bride-elect.
Serving were Miss Joanne Latta
and Miss Pat Neeley.
Pouring tea in the evening were
Mrs. Earl Atkinson, the groom-
elect's other grandmother, and
Mrs, A. Freeman, Miss
Freeman's aunt. Miss Jean and
Miss Linda Aitkins w !re servers,
Mrs. Bob Anderson assisted in
the kitchen, The four
bridesmaids, Miss Grace Smith,
Miss Betty Park, Miss Carol
Greenlee, and Miss Jackie
liodgins displayed gifts and
trousseau.
Following the wedding
rehearsal the groom-elect's
Cindy rides again
for candidate
Adrian Ansems Liberal
representative for North Mid-
dlesex, opened his campaign with
a buggy-ride, His slogan was,
"Get out of horse and buggy
days, and get with it," He toured
the London streets.
Janice Hindmarsh was the
driver and the horse was "Cin-
dy," the same horse who pulled
the buggy for the Centennial
Queen of Lucan, Mrs. Bob
Coleman.
Lucan-Clandeboye held an
Exploration at the Lucan United
Church, October 4 with 25
members attending.
The meeting Started with
singing Thanksgiving Hymns.
Counsellor, Mrs. Kraut con-
ducted the installation ceremony
for Chief Explorer Janet sod-
dard, Wile then conducted the
opening ceremony, The girls formed a
ProCessionaloand while singing,
proceeded upstairs to Junior
Church. The Thanksgiving theme
was carried through by hymns
and worship in a setting of fruit,
lighted candle and open Bible.
Mrs. Sawdon told a story of the
Harvest Festival, Girls assisting
her were Christine Stutt, Karen
Leitch and Dorothy Cunningham.

Council received approval from
the Ministry of Transportation
and Communication for subsidy
for extra cost of winter control
from January 1 to March 31, 1971.
They had received approval
from the Dept, of Energy and
Resources Management to
continue using the present
garbage disposal site until
January 31, 1972,
The engineer's report on the
Harvey-Haskett Drain was
privionally adopted.
They studied a proposed zoning
by-law with Planning Consultant,
Carl Altenburg, and approved
permits for the following
buildings: William Giesen, Lot
37, Conc. 6, a house; Harvey
Kennedy, Lot 23, sth. Boundary, a
silo; Norbert Schuller, Lot 28,
Conc 15, an addition to the house;
Mrs. Mary Blake, Lot 18 Conc. 8 a
garage and Conrad Decort, Lot 6,
North Boundary, a silo.

An NDP Government is committed to the

has quit — and the farmer is being forced to
give up his way of life, at the rate of one lost
farm every three hours every day, day in,
day out.

Last week was a busy one for
the ladies of Holy Trinity Church.
The afternoon branch of the
Anglican Church Women met at
the rectory Wednesday.
Following the Bible Study the
program was in charge of Mrs.
Hilton Roberts who lead in three
guessing games.
Plans were made to send a bale
to the West.
Saturday the ladies served the
wedding breakfast to the guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Harvey
Latta, The ladies are getting
ready to serve the annual turkey
supper Wednesday October 27.
Sunday the flowers in the
church were given in memory of
Russell Bowman by his wife and
family and also in memory of
Elliott Shipley given by his wife
and family.
Monday October 18 the Fall
Deanery meeting for Middlesex
West will be held at 8 p.m. in St.
Juries' Church, Mount Brydges.
Both men and women are invited
to this meeting. Thursday
October 21 the Middlesex Arch-
deaconry will hold the statutory
meeting in St. Paul's Cathedral
at 7 p.m. when Bishop Lindsay of
the Caribbean will speak.

passes away

Thanksgiving Sunday was
observed al Lucan United Church
under the direction of Rev. W. C.
Tripling.
Miss Marlene Butler was the
soloist with Mr. Robert Blackwell
at the organ. Mr. Tueling's
sermon was entitled, "Why Be
Thankful?"
Next Sunday the Sacrament of
Holy Baptism will be observed.
Sunday October 24 at
Metropolitan Church, London, a
Festival of Hymns will be con-
ducted to introduce the new
Hymn Book.
Conservative neglect has reduced the fanner
to the role of hired hand to the feed, pack-
ing, and processing companies — many of
them foreign-owned.

An NDP Government will legislate against
foreign ownership of farm land, will oppose
the intrusion of large monopolies into farm
operations, will encourage co-operative and
publicly-owned storage, processing and dis-
tribution systems, will provide dollar assis-
tance to farmers who wish to expand on
their own or co-operatively.
The Sunshine Club met last
Thursday, with 17 members
present. Friendly euchre was
played.

Little served lunch and officers
for the coming year were
discussed.
The rewards of efficient farming have been
passed along — not to the farmer — but to
the powerful corporations he buys from and
sells to.
Former resident
dies in Detroit
Mrs, Lou (Mary) Fisher died
suddenly in her home in Detroit,
Wednesday, October 6.
She is survived by her husband
Lou Fisher, one sister, Mrs.
Pearl Neil of London and a
brother, Ernest Whiteford of
Crediton. She was pre-deceased
by sisters Mrs. Emily Darling of
Lucan, Mrs. Della Robinson of
Ailsa Craig, Mrs. Josie Niven of
Wisconsin and one brother James
of Detroit,
Mrs. Fisher went to High
School in Lucan, then to Detroit
to work, making her home there.

bution and sale of farm machinery, and
provide price protection and import regula-
tions to guarantee a fair return for each
Ontario crop.

subsidies to farmers until control of their —
markets are taken from the corporations R.
and returned where they belong.
The working farmer earns barely one dollar
an hour for his labour — about one-third
the average industrial wage.

Berrell Loft of RR 3, Ilderton
died in St. Mary's Hospital,
London, Monday, October 11 in
his 77th year.
He is survived by his wife Neva
(Haskett) Loft, three daughters,
Ruth and Una of Brantford, Mrs.
Dan (Mary) Eadie of Ayr and one
son Clarke of RR 3 Ilderton, also
by brothers, George of Sylvan,
James and Harry of London Twp.
and Cecil of Aylmer; sisters,
Mrs. Reta Hodgins and Mrs.
Frank (Irene) Ideson, both of
London Twp., also three grand-
children. A brother John
predeceased him in 1965.
The body rested at the C.
Has kett and Son Funeral home,
Lucan where funeral service was
held Wednesday October 13 with
Rev. Warden of Ilderton United
Church officiating. Interment
was in Littlewood Cemetery.
Bazaar planned
by St. Patrick's
The Catholic Women's League
of St. Patrick's Church met last
Tuesday when final plans were
made for the up-coming fall
bazaar, to be held in the Lucan
Arena.
The door-prize was won by
Mrs. Alice Dewan.

Arrogance at Queen's Park has fostered a
food marketing system that is controlled by
government rather than farmers, with the
corporations pulling the strings.

unfairly. Although he must own a large
amount of land to live, Tory indifference
has allowed property taxes to charge the
farmer with an intolerable burden for edu-
cation and municipal services.
Eastern funeral
for Lucan native
Harvey C. Froats died at the
Mason Villa Hospital London,
Thurday, October 7 in his 83rd
year.
He is survived by his wife L.
Jean (Westcombe) Froats, of
London, and sons, Gordon and
Donald of Lucan. He is also
survived by one brother, Bruce of
Ottawa, and seven grand-
children.
The body rested at the Arm-
strong and Wageant Funeral
Home, South Mountain, Ontario.
Interment was in South Gower
Cemetery.
